Mike/Michael Vick-This Is Ridiculous!

I'm sure all of you watching the game tonight feel the way I do. Never
has any athlete, even the loudest, most obnoxious black ones, been
given the treatment this guy gets consistently from EVERY announcer.
Lots of athletes have been overrated, but we'd have to come up with a
new term to describe the way Vick's actual performance is distorted by
the media and portrayed as something fantastic and incomparable. Jimmy
Johnson seriously said that he believed Michael Vick was "superman"
during the halftime show. During the game, Fox devised a novel way of
showing the masses just how "great" Vick is. Since his actual stats are
mediocre, the media has made up something called "Vick yards" that
supposedly tell us exactly how great this guy really is. They appear to
credit him for every yard he "should have" lost on sacks he "should
have" given up. Huh? What kind of nonsense is that? How could you even
determine such a thing?

I am now firmly convinced that the NFL is fixing games for the Falcons
so that Mike/Michael Vick can go to the Super Bowl (and probably win
it). All this hype is not being generated for nothing. Vick had a
handful of horrible passes, thrown directly to Ram defenders, dropped
tonight. Ram WRs dropped several key passes. During Allen Rossum's TD
punt return, I counted THREE illegal blocks in the back. No comment
from announcers, no penalty. Then, on another of his long returns, Ram
Mike Furrey was clipped in the back about as blatantly as can be, right
in front of the referee. The replay was shown again and again, with the
supposedly knowledgable announcers talking about what a great block it
was, although on about the fourth replay, they did acknowledge that the
Rams were protesting that it was a block in the back. Uh, yeah, they
shoud have done that, because it clearly was! On one of Vick's
"fantastic" runs, all of which are unprecedented, according to everyone
in the media, one of his lineman was holding a Ram defender from
BEHIND; it was so blatant. But again, no penalty. Can't erase any of
Mike/Michael's unbelievable, superhuman accomplishments. This guy is
heralded for making five yard runs through gaping holes, and when he
threw a ten yard TD pass to Price, the announcers kept buzzing about
the "laser" pass he threw, and about his incredible "accuracy." It is
absolutely disgusting.

To compare a QB who had 14 TDs and 12 Int for just over 2000 yards
passing with Peyton Manning and his record-breaking passing records is
more than a slap in the face to him; it's a clear punch in the nose to
White America. But sadly, one suspects that more of White America love
this media creation than love Peyton Manning, or any other white
athlete. I hope I am wrong, but I haven't trusted in the credibility of
NFL games for a long time, and I suspect that no one is going to stop
the powers that be from placing this ultimate media hype machine in the
biggest sporting event of the year. Even though the other two starting
QBs left in the NFC playoff race are also black, they just don't seem
to be accorded the superhuman status that Vick is. Yes, McNabb has
always been overrated (what black QB isn't?), but he did produce great
stats this season. As for Culpepper, he had a monster season, on top of
the solid seasons he produced over the past couple years, yet he really
gets very little hype. All of that seems reserved for Vick, for
whatever reason.

Dude you are right on! I couldn't help but think fix while watching this game. I don't really think it is but all of the dropped passes by the Rams and even worse the passes Vick threw right to Ram defenders that were just dropped for no reason.

You forgot one instance of absolute ridiculous fawning, Vick threw a ball out of bounds, a real wounded duck, lame-ass airball floater, and the guys in the booth were marveling over how unbelievable Vick's ability to get the ball off is! Tony Sarguso chimed in with more ridiculous praise from his end zone view. Man it was killin' me!

the rams defense is terrible. adam archuleta is the best safty linebacker and corner, and he isn't even a pro bowler. i think vick is over rated but then so is the entire nfc.

Biggunreal you are dead on about the clipping on Rossum's run back. BRUTAL. And yes the announcers missed it.Rams D was pretty bad so I don't think they were going to win. By the way anyone recall Dante Hall's famous return last season. There were maybe 5 friggen clips. Sick of this garbage.

On a bright note for Atlanta DE's Brady Smith and quicksilverPatrick Kerny were stellar as was the great Keith Brooking.

How can they go on and on about Vick.He had 75 yards
passing. He is horrible when forced to throw the ball.
I know the Rams Defense is horrible, but they still
should have been able to stack the line & run blitz
better. If they would have held Dunn to a average game,
Vick would have had to try to throw to win.He can't hit
the side of an ocean. For Vick,200 yards is a great
passing game.It looked too easy yesterday. The Falcons
are not that good. It's all about the P.R. Machine.

It looks like Atlanta is running a college offence.Just have Vick roll-out and if he does not see anything he likes, which is most of the time,take-off.I guess the Falcons have more or less given up on their version of the west coast offence, probably because Vick couldn't grasp it.As has been stated here before, the mighty Vick is just a runner and that is all.For the sake of arguing let's say the Falcons win the SuperBowl with this offence, with the NFL coaches being the copycats that they are, they will try to run a similar style offence and draft QB's like slick Vick to operate it.First in line would be Vince Young of Texas, whose a terrible thrower but he can run and he's already getting a lot of love from the media. If that's going to be the case, then it's good-bye whitey QB's.

I hope I'm wrong but I think that Phili is going to
choke again on Sunday. Not that I like the Eagles but
I hate Vick with a passion.I have a weird feeling that
the Super Bowl is going to be the battle of the young
guys. They will hype it as the future pro bowl qb's.The
class of 2001 vs the class of 2004.Rothlisberger versus
Vick.If it is the Steelers and the Falcons, please let
Big Ben win.I already have Vick overload.I thought it
couldn't get any worse than Lebron James and then here
comes,"The Vick Experience".Give me a break.Whether it's
Big Ben or the Brady Bunch, please let the AFC win the
title.I don't want to see a qb win the Super Bowl while
only throwing for 75 yards!What a joke!

I hope you're wrong too, WL! Both games are very intriguing. Will McNabb finally get to the Super Bowl after three straight near misses, or will Secular "Saint" Michael Vick somehow lead the Falcons there.

The AFC matchup is equally intriguing. Will Brady and the Patriots come closer to establishing one of the all time great dynasties, or will Big Ben lead the Steelers to the Super Bowl, which they haven't won in a quarter century.

At least Roethlisberger is closely scrutinized and criticized when he has bad games, like against the Jets. But when Vick throws for 75 yards yet his team still wins, he is rewarded with ever more praise and cover boy stories. Somehow it only adds to his "mystique." If anyone should be on the front of sports magazines it should be the quarterback with the career 14-0 record.

McNabb is a favored son of the system's propaganda, but he "pales" in comparison to the prestige that has been bestowed on Vick going back to his college days. Eric Crouch was better than Vick in every way in college, except maybe sheer arm strength, but was not even allowed to play quarterback while Vick has received the royal treatment in every way. Comparing the disparity in treatment between the two tells you everything you need to know about the Caste System. Eric Crouch was shafted just as much if not more than Luke Staley, Danny Farmer, Keith Poole, Cade McNown, and anyone else you can name.

The "lesser of two evils" will be for Philly to win, but the NFC is really a no-win situation. Go AFC!

I can't wait to see Vick lose today. If I see one more
Vick commercial,I am going to blow up my tv. Lol. I am
so sick of the hype. The media should just roll out the
red carpet and kiss his feet. They make me sick. You would
think he's better than Joe Montana or something.Go
Eagles. They are the lesser of 2 evils.

Well,he lost and the media still thinks he is the man.
Even with his running,he still averages only about 200
yards total offense per game by himself. That is horrible.
Give me Manning,Favre or anyone who can throw for 300
to 400 yards per game.Even though Big Ben lost today,
he can throw as good as he runs.He as a rookie is far
beyond the what Vick will ever acheive.Micheal Vick is
a creation of the media who will never live up to the
hype.False advertising at it's best.Learn to throw a
football or give up being a qb.What a joke.Ha.ha.ha.

Thank goodness the Falcons lost. Nothing against them; in fact, I would
have rooted for them if not for Vick, but I simply did not want to see
how much more worship the idiots in the media could dole out to
Mike/Michael Vick. Now all we have to deal with is the constant
attention paid to "T.O." and what are sure to be his many ridiculous
comments. Also, we can continue to expect the whitewashing of Corey
Dillon's persona; I actually heard Phil Simms say yesterday that when
the Patriots were thinking of signing Dillon, they asked ex-Bengal
coach Dick LeBeau about him. "Good guy," is what LeBeau reportedly told
them. Yeah, good guy alright; I urge everyone to read the book,
mentioned here on this site before, by Jeff Benedict, called "Pros And
Cons: The Criminals Who Play In The NFL." Dillon's criminal past is
just scratched, but it's enough to make any reasonable person root
against him and wish he were behind bars.

Curiously I have never heard Vick speak. Never seen an interview. Does he talk in any of the many commercials he is in? Maybe he is a mute. He might just be a holographic image, not a real person, something the Gameboy people came up with to boost sales. People often miss tackling him when he is right in their grasp, maybe he's not really there?

I had never even seen a closeup of him until today there was a picture on Yahoo. Man what an ugly dude! He must be real, no one would intentionally create that face. See below. And what's with players not shaving? Do they forget that there is going to be a game and a million cameras? I shave when I'm going out to get the paper for cryin out loud.

Warning scary picture!

Good one Bart!

Actually those are quite flattering pictures of both Vick and Rock.

I've heard Vick interviewed numerous times. He speaks in a thick ebonics accent. Doesn't come across as very bright at all. I've read posts from a number of pro-black football fans who have come to the same conclusion.

As far as not speaking in commercials, that's pretty much par for the course for black athletes. Notice how often their "performance" consists of nothing more than dunking a basketball or simply smiling their "charismatic" toothy grin. Sometimes they have to deliver a line or two to earn their easy seven figures.

run like he used to.His legs are all he has. This guy is
so overated! Give me Brady,or Manning anyday of the week.

My teenaged son talked me into watching some of the Pro Bowl with him
yesterday. When Vick came in the game, it was really, really hard to
take. I knew it would be bad, with Theismann and McGuire drooling over
him, but they even exceeded my expectations. EVERY pass Vick completed
was "great" in some way, shape or form. Ten yard passes that thousands
of QBs have thrown just as well over many decades were ogled and
overdramatized, as if it was something that had never been done before.
EVERY time he moved at all in the pocket, Theismann and/or McGuire
oohed and aahed, raving about his unprecedented "athleticism" in
orgasmic tones.

I just don't get it; every black player is overrated, to some degree,
and black QBs are especially overrated. But Vick is in a category of
his own; there is black and then there is Vick. For instance, Daunte
Culpepper has put up monster stats that Vick will never come close to
matching, and is in his own way just as dominant a runner, but he
garners very little publicity and none of the overhyped nonsense that
surrounds Vick all the time. In reality, Vick had a less than mediocre
passing season and a very good, but not unprecedented, rushing season.
He had no business being in any Pro Bowl. Look at the stats Jake
Delhomme and Marc Bulger put up; any honest selection process would
have taken either of them (and others, as well) before the "great"
Mike/Michael Vick.

Now this is just flat out wrong! While shopping for appetizers and snacks I noticed a display for Ritz crackers. Guess what athlete was chosen for the promotion? Of course, it's Michael Vick. NowI'm seriously ticked off. Affirmative action be damned.

Let McNabbhype soup, I don't care. Butis thereno place left for white spokesmen? Wouldn't Tom Brady be better suited to represent a CRACKER?

LOL, You people fail toacknowledge michael vick's magic..he might not be a good politician/talker,but he sure is a damn good QB and possibly the greatest oneof all time......

Its not "how good black players are" but its more with "HOW good they do it"...a throw is not merely a throw when a black person does it,plain and simple. Most peopleget ENTHUSIASTIC when mike vick is playing because he is an exciting player to watch...is that really hard to comprehend??....

Mike vick is a tremendous player,,,he has been a tremendous player, hisplays and runs are just formidable....thats why people get over excited by the simplest throws he makes...

Look at it this way: when payton manning and the new england QB(i forgot his name)gets a touch down, thats all it is,a touch down.ONE that was brilliantlycaught by a man of color of course...but when VICK does it,,hereis a brief commentary:::: Mike vick has the ball,,he runs forward with the ball,,he steps back,,,looks at his wide recievers....he's about to get sacked by a line man,,he dodges the blows....he runsahead at a speed of167km/hour...he could go all the way...mike vick is going all the way...he's on the 5 m line....he makes a summer-sault and crosses the try line..TOUCHDOWN!...

Big LX, Thank's for enlightening me about the Mike Vic (black) Experience . Since you don't know the name of New England's quarteback as most people do not, I have decided to send Tom Brady a list of pointers to improve his (white bread) image. To impress the media he must begin immediately.

#10-Take a crash course in E-bonics..

#9- Use this terminology:We be like, know whum sayin, who dat, bling bling, dawg, chillin etc.

#8- Remove helmet revealing do rag underneath.

#7- Ditch the -Opie-haircut. Get dreadlocks or corn rows.

#6- Burn the blue blazers. Go shopping with Deion, red or orange look good on you.

#5- Get buddy buddy woth Barry Bonds, borrow his ear ring for photo ops.

#4- Sell Super Bowl rings on E-Bay.Donate proceeds to Bono's African Aids relief.

#3- Join O.J. in search of real killer. Better yet, confess you are the killer.

#2- Read Kordel Stewart's book on how to play quarteback.

#1- Buy a case of black shoe polish. Don't just dab under eyes, do the whole damn face.

however the thing is vick may make impressive move but he won't win games no matter how bat the nfc gets and his numbers are not all the impressive. football is not about sprints it is about distance. vick will look impessive on some play and down right horrible on others, he has several times just choked under pressure and because of that he will never win a super bowl. we saw want that kind of quarterback could do when archie manning was playing and one thing they don't do is win. right now the falcons payroll will be among the highest in the nfl next year, so unlike brady's patriots they will not be able to sign to amny players. So when he gets into trouble and tries to blame them for not bringing in any talent the can tell him why.

By the way who won the pro bowl was it the three boring white quarterback and the three exciting black quarterbacks.

mike vick is no where near the greatest of all time. the only reason the falcons made it to the playoffs is because of their defense. dispite there record they had given up more pionts then they scored and they were among the lowest in scoring last year. a huge chuck of his scoring come against bad defenses. his quarterback rating was among the lowest of nfl starters and only one reciever caught more then fifty passes last year. peyton manning had three receives with over a thousand yards this season. vick also not call any audibles this year as opposed to manning who basically calls all of his own plays. vick is basically a running back playing qb. if he continues to play this way he will be out of the nfl in five years tops.

Kevin, I agree completely. Think Kordell Stewart. He was the Vick of the late '90s -- same absurd hype, same massive amount of corporate endorsements, same limitations as a quarterback. Kordell received the same kind of Tiger/Michael Jordan/LeBron treatment that Vick is getting. Now he's trying to hang on as a third-string quarterback. Vick will end up the same way.
