Mariusz Wach brutally knocked out Kevin McBride tonight. McBride was still out cold after a few minutes, so they had to bring in a stretcher to carry him out and to a hospital.

Most of you will remember McBride had a stoppage win over Mike Tyson a few years ago, and Tyson retired after that fight.

There is a possibility that Wladimir Klitschko will fight Wach (25-0, 13 KO) next. Wladimir was going to fight Dereck Chisora, but since that fighter lost to Tyson Fury, he has to look at other options.

Wach's name is on Wladimir's short list of potential fall opponents. It may be that Chris Arreola's management want him to have one more fight in September before facing Wlad, and of course Alexander Dimitrenko already has a fight scheduled for September.

Wach's management were saying last week that Mariusz had to look good against McBride to have a chance of landing the title shot against Wladimir, and he did look very good tonight. Although I don't understand the Polish language, I could tell the Polish commentators tonight were saying a possible fight with Wlad may be next for Mariusz.

Here is Wach's record on BoxRec:

From the Wach perspective, a jump to either K brother is too steep from the Mcbrides of the world. He needs to fight fresher fighters and gain more experience. From the look of his record I only recognize Mcbride and Haggler the rest are really obscure fighters.

Wach is no way near ready for Klitschko. He needs to step up his competition first and see how he does. I'm thinking he should look for a fight with Dimitrenko, Ray Austin, or maybe Chisora first. Since Chisora lost why doesn't Klitschko fight Tyson Fury. After all, he was thinking about fighting the winner of that fight.

Fury says he doesn't want to fight a Klitschko yet. He feels he's not ready, and says he wants to fight for the Irish and European titles first. It's a wise decision on his part, no sense being KOed so early in his career.

Fury backed out of any Klitschko talks.
Guess he wants to milk the British fans for a few years like Haye did.

Wladimir has really ran out of any opponents and if Wach is willing, he can make some big money fighting Wlad and not hurt his career at this point............

And it would be interesting to see Wlad in with someone taller than himself. Then the Klitschko haters can't bitch about Wlad having the size advantage.

Somebody like Derrick Rossy would be a perfect opponent or maybe a guy like Maurice Harris. Both should beatable if you are at least fringe world class.

McCall is out he failed his physical. It's a shame because McCall in theory could have tested Wach. Gavern looks to be a much softer opponent on paper. To get the first stoppage of McCall would have been a good notch in the belt for Wach.

Yeah, this is a shame. The walkover win will do nothing for Wach, plus I don't like to see white fighters get hurt.

from fightnews:

Krakow, Poland’s own WBC International heavyweight title holder, the undefeated Mariusz Wach (26-0, 14 KOs) successfully defended his title and kept his unbeaten record alive and well as he stopped late substitute, Orlando, FL’s Jason Gavern in six rounds.

Gavern (21-9-4, 10 KOs), who took the bout on three days notice, was knocked down once in the first and twice in the second round.

Wach landed several jabs in round six, which allowed him to then connect with an overhand right, that caused referee Arthur Mercante Jr. to stop the fight at 1:03.

Wach fought very well last night. He uses his height and reach very well and has become better at setting up his right with the jab, like Wladimir Klitschko does.

Here's a video of the fight for download:

Yeah, I'm afraid that Fields is going to wind up on the canvas. I had high hopes for him early in his career. Wach has been looking awesome lately.

On Saturday at the Resorts Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City, the main event will still be WBC International heavyweight title between beltholder Mariusz Wach (26-0, 14 KOs) and Tye Fields (49-4, 44 KOs). But the spotlight will also shine on one of the most talented heavyweights of the young generation, Poland’s Artur Szpilka (9-0, 7 KOs). The 22-year old, who has gotten rave reviews from Lennox Lewis and Monte Barrett, will face Terrance “Big Jim†Marbra (6-1, 5 KOs), and if you believe their verbal exchanges, looks like fans of boxing will have nice war in the ring – guaranteed.
“Nobody hits harder than Artur. This guy has a great future in front of him,†said Aleksiej Solowiew (18-0, 12 KOs), one of Szpilka’s recent sparring partners who had to come back home with broken ribs after just a couple of days in Szpilka’s training camp in Warsaw. (more…)
