Junior quarterback Nick Mertens takes over at quarterback for North Dakota State.


DD.comment: We don't know anything about Mertens, but having a pair Big 10 caliber weapons to utilize -- tailback Tyler Roehl and wide receiver Kole Heckendorf -- should really help his cause. Despite many media members pegging Heckendorf as a classic "overachiever", NFL scouts have listed him running the 40 yard dash at 4.44 seconds (at almost 6' 2") in pre-season reports, which, if accurate, would make him one of the fastest receivers in the nation.

I honestly think Kole might have a chance to be drafted by the NFL with this kind of production and measurables, even though he is in Division IAA.
