Charley Reese sheds light on the situation.

http://www.antiwar.com/reese/?articleid=8856

The Israeli lobby and the neoconservatives are beating the drums for war with Iran. I hope the president is not that dangerously stupid. The betting on whether he is that stupid is about even.

The neocons - who, being self-centered, seemingly have no concept of human nature - are advancing the premise that a military attack on Iran will cause the people to lose faith in their government and result in regime change.

A military attack on Iran will have the opposite effect. The people will rally to their government, and any hope of regime change will be dead. That people will rally around their existing leaders in the face of an attack by a foreign power is as certain as sunrise. Neither Israel nor the U.S. could do a greater favor for the ruling mullahs and Iran's president than to launch an attack. It would cement their hold on power...

Once again, the dead roach in America's salad is Israel. The U.S. hypocritically opposes a nuclear-free Middle East because Israel has nuclear weapons. We hypocritically claim the Iranians are in violation of international law when, in fact, it is Israel that refuses to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and refuses international inspections. Given our craven obedience to Israel, we have exactly zero credibility in the Arab and Muslim world.

Let's invade China next, and let's do all of this while the Mexicans invade us from the south. We've already relinquished all of the "inner cities" to the Black hordes as most who can't afford private schools for their children retreat to the suburbs amid traffic jams every day. The Israelis will soon have to find someone else to leach off of. The United States is reaching it's breaking point. Most people can't even see it coming. Most Americans grow up with such an insolated sense of normalcy. They think that prosperity is a given. We are in for a rude awakening. It will be interesting to see if there is a fight or if White flight just continues to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc.

(Let me play token pro-Jewish poster)

Israel is different! It is the only democracy in the Middle East. Also Israel has sworn enemies all around them, if they had to open up to inspections it would be suicide. Plus nuclear weapons are in the hands of leaders that are rational in comparison to Muslim madmen. If we forced Israel to get rid of their nukes it would be like another HOLOCAUST!!!!! Did you hear me I said HOLOCAUST!!!

Israel is to Democracy what Roseanne Barr is to beauty... no relation whatsoever. The only reason the Palestinians haven't been destroyed is because they do much of the manual labor in Israel. It is a nation filled with religious zealots many of whom do not work. Seriously, they read Torah all day and not much else. Lets's reason together about the truth of the matter. A nation of lawyers, academics, Rabbi's, politicans, writers, agents, hustlers, pimps, porno peddlers and snake oil salesmen are not interested or capable of swinging hammers, laying bricks, building roads and hauling away the trash. The Arabs are herded like beasts of burden through checkpoints to be dispersed along the way doing the work Jews won't do, which is nearly everything requiring even minimal exertion. We should send the Mexicans to Israel by the boat load. Problem is, they couldn't sneak across the borders. They's be road kill in no time flat. Don't have time to write more.

Israel has enemies... why? There were few Jews in the area at the turn of the century. After the first Zionist convention in Switzerland in the year 1897, the Jews laid plans to take the land from the Arab inhabitants. If you think the Mexicans have taken lots of ground, they are pikers in comparison to the Zionists. They flooded the land with Jews of every stripe and uprooted the inhabitants by hook, crook, sword and slaughter. The Arabs don't forgive and forget as we are prone to do. They have long memoriesand much of theArab / Muslim world is itching for a chance to pay back the Jews in kind...with interest.

So, you may be right to call them madmen or rather mad men waiting to even the score. What about the situation developing in Iran? There has been a fair amount of sabre rattling from all interested parties. Iran has been very boisterous. Don't know if this is false bravado trying to stave off an attack from us and Israel or if they do have some aces up their sleeves.

But Islam is a religion of peace.

As far as those guys having long memories, they haven't forgotten about the Crusades much less the creation of Israel.

The religion of peace has shed a ot of blood since the it's inception during the seventh century. If you didn't conform or submit to its dictates, you were forced to submit or be killed. No opposition equalls peace. But still, I've read about periods of history where Muslims did in fact live peacably with other religious groups and even exhibited a measure of religious tolerance. Usually when they are the controlling power they become more zealous then when a struggling minority. That is the truth of human nature.

The same can be said of Christianity and factions thereof. The Catholic Church has also shed a lot of innocent blood throughout it's history. Crusades, inquisitions, heresy trials, burnings at the stake, barbarous acts of torture and cruelty can't be dismissed merely as isolated occurencesor good intentions gone awry. The St. Bartholomew massacre of the French Huguenots in Paris, 1572 is but one incident. The dark ages were indeed very dark. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I am painting with a broad brush to prove a point, but non-threatening peaceful people can be found to some extent in most religious groups.

Bart, I'm afraid you're misguided in your equating Christianity with Islam in terms of violence. Your mistake is confusing Christianity with the "church". I can guarantee you'll not find anything in the New Testament even remotely touching on violence toward non-Christians. If you would take the time to read the New Testament (and maybe you have , I don't know)you would come to understand its message regarding human relations, that of living peacably and loving your fellow man.
I would also add that we are much more familiar with church associated acts of violence because it is our own history. Probably, if one took the time to study Islam related acts of violence through the ages one would find greater rates and degrees of violence.

Proponents of Islam often make the same distinction concerning their religion.

Well said, old chap!

Impeccable scholarship, brilliant reasoning, even tone, and you gently lead the reader to your conclusion yet you make him believe that he arrived there himself.

In a nutshell, you have captured the essence of American foreign policy and, increasingly, its domestic policy, as well. You should be granted a chair at Harvard University as the Dershowitz Professor of Political Science, as thanks for your remarkable contribution to our understanding of the world.

However, I think you give short shrift to the Holocaust; 2 mentions in 70 words is not enough -- the world must not be permitted to forget!!! (The world must also not be permitted to study it in too much detail, lest the hoax be exposed once and for all).

That proponents of Islam make the same distinction means what? My argument is undermined because it is made by the other side? If this were true it sure would make for an easy way to win an argument - just repeat what the other guy is saying for yourself. You might as well be saying that blacks commit many violent crimes, but whites do as well. Therefore, both groups are violent. That is not entirely accurate. It is a matter of degrees. Compare the level of barbarity between Christians and Moslems up to the present day. And compare the societies each religion has produced.

As far as sticking to the original post, I agree much is made of the Holocaust, but there is silence regarding the efforts in inordinate numbers, made by Jews in advancing communism, especially in the early twentieth century. We all know this led to the slaughter of tens of millions.

It means that advocates of Islam when questioned about brutal terrorism will respond with the same reason or excuse proponents of other religions and Christianity use. "Islam is a religion of peace, brotherhood and love. It is unfair to judge all Muslims based on the actions of some wild-eyed fundamentalist fanatics."

History is filled with atrocities committed by Muslims, Jews, Hindus and many other groups including Christians. If you think -t rue - Christians are incapable ofcommitting heinous acts, you're fooling yourself. The CatholicChurch has been embroiled in controversy over the sexual abuse of it's priests who victimized trusting sheep, mostly chidren. In my city not only Catholic priests, but ministers and church workers of Protestant groups have been guilty of similar activities. Our newspapers are filled with these accounts. Let's not get derailed into another religious debate -- it only serves to get people riled up for no reason, and no one's mind is ever changed.

Back on topic, I'm glad to see Charley Reese willing to name the jew publicly. His metaphor is a bit light, however.

Israel ain't the dead roach in America's salad; Israel is the Ebola virus multiplying in America's colon. The dead roach can be removed and the rest of the salad is palatable; the virus, well...it's just a matter of time for the host.

Actually, the entire situation in the middle-east is fueled with religious fanatacism and fervor on all sides. Jews took land based on it's interpretation of the Bible. The Muslims to honor Alla will mot relinquish an inch of land once held by them. And Christian Zionists support Israel based on their interpretations of scriptures and end-time theology. Aside from all that, I agree with the E-Bola virus analogy.

It takes a lot of courage to name the Jew. Just beating about the hedges with mild insinuations has often resulted in the ruination of those venturing too far on that path.

Without getting into all the bull crap religious aspect of why "Christianity should support Israel" (even although I'm not Christian) we shouldn't have a hand in their affair. Granted if we left them to themselves then all the Arabic countries would start war with them and probably start to slaughter them, then we and the United Nations SHOULD step in. Right now Palestinians in Israel are being persecuted, do I care? Sometimes yes sometimes no. These people are not my race so why should they be my concern? I agree that we shouldn't systematically stand aside while a race is destroyed but we shouldn't step into foreign affairs, while its not concern or harm to Americans. I say we should step out of the affairs in Israel for awhile see what unfolds. If another country attacks then we step in with the support of the U.N (and we KNOW that will happen) and stop it, if no attack against them happens then all the better

I don't think we should raise a finger to help the Israelis, even if they were being slaughtered. I don't care about Israelis, Palistinians, or any other non-whites in the Middle East. Let 'em kill each other.
