Ty Fields has been wanting to move up for a long time - his problem is that nobody wants to fight him. Vladimir Virchis has difficulty finding opponents for the same reason: he's a powerful puncher, and the other contenders are afraid of having a KO loss on their record.

Ty's been calling Rahman out, but I will be surprised if Hasim will be willing to fight him. Rahman doesn't have an opponent for Sep 7 and Fields is willing, but we'll likely see Rahman face another clubfighter, maybe Zuri Lawrence or Charles Shufford. Edited by: JD1986

Ty battered and made his journeyman opponent quit. The Rahman fight will be a true test though. One thing if you have never seen this guy fight before you will think he has no pace judgement as he fights at a phenominal pace for a large heavyweight.

JD - I haven't seen him in a long time. I'm not sure he's all that great.

WIR - I remember in an early fight watching him go at a fast pace and KO'ing people, but then he seemed to switch to going slow and he looked rather boring. Guess he's gone back to his original plan. That's good, I think.

I used to want to see him vs. Valuev in a battle of colossi when he was up around 300, but he's trimmed down since then.

Fields Stops Jenkins in 7th round!

10.08.07 - By Ron Hansen: Heavyweight prospect Tye Fields (39-1, 35 KOs) stopped last minute replacement Dominic Jenkins (12-7-1, 6 KOs) in the 7th round on Thursday night at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 6'9" 257 lb Fields completely dominated the over-matched Jenkins, hitting him with an enormous amount of punches in every round. However, as usual, Field's punches were mostly arm shots thrown with little power or form, hence his ability to throw a lot of them.

In virtually every round, Fields, 32, would back Jenkins up against the ropes and then unload on him with non-stop shots, many of them missing, of course. However, due to the sheer volume thrown, Jenkins was reduced to that of a heavy bag for Field's punches.

For his part, Jenkins was seldom able to offer up any offense of his own, instead focusing on trying to cover up and wait out Field's steady bombardments. It was a strategy doomed for failure, as Field's never tires and can throw 80-90 punches a round for an entire fight, something unheard of for most heavyweights. However, when Jenkins did let his hands go, he had no problem hitting Fields, who seemed to care little about things like defense. In fact, Field's defense is really his offense, which keeps most of his normally overmatched opponents too busy absorbing shots to even consider throwing anything back at him.

Afterwards, Fields called out boxing veteran Hasim Rahman, a daring move considering Field's lack of quality opposition thus far. Rahman, 34, even at this stage in his career, would seem like too big of a jump up in competition for Fields to successfully make.

Fields can certainly beat Rahman. Hasim has no stamina and a suspect chin. Look for late KO win for Tye, who could soon be the most hated man in sports due to the color of his skin. Hell hath no fury like a sports reporter writing about a white American heavyweight. Take a look at some of the racist comments on the article posted above.

Fields is not a pretty boxer. But his great size coupled with an inhuman level of endurance make him a very dangerous opponet for any but the most skilled boxers or another fighter with great size and endurance. If Rahman is short in the wind department. he will have to take Fields out early to win and with a man this size that may be difficult, if he cannot KO Fields early young Tye's size and punch production will wear him dowm until he goes down.Edited by: Tired old White

But in his 8 1/2 years in the pros, for whatever reason, Fields has never faced anyone who is highly ranked. Rahman WOULD be a very big move up for him.

Tye has a fight on 12/6 against an opponent TBD. Let's hope it is someone decent like Kali Meehan or Ray Austin.
