while i'm not a track expert by the wildest stretch ofimagination, i thought i'd start a thread so it would be easy for you track guys to compile American university athletes' information (and it would be easy for me to read!
smiley4.gif
) ...

and i'd like to start it off by mentioning Central Michigan's track team. they've got so many White players on their football team (which i'm watching play in a bowl game at the moment), that i thought i'd check out their track team. well, it turns out that it is stacked with young White speed, too. i just looked at the men's team, but it was impressive.

sophomore David Ashcraft is their fastest 400 metersprinter (47.22);

freshman Daniel Rau is their fastest 200 meter sprinter (21.89);

and freshman Greg Knaus is their second-fastest 100 meter sprinter (10.58).

looking only at knaus limited bio, i see that he is a born and raised northern climate athlete and he has a very bad 200m time in relation to his 100m. i assume he has never had a pro coach. all these things show he has some good potential in the 100m. he needs speed endurance training, its about 0% by the looks of it. all these negative factors combined with a 10.58s 100m shows he has some real potential in the 100m

Don't forget Michael LeBlanc of Syracuse. He is a 5th year senior who has a p.b. of 10.16 in the 100 meters. He is coming back from a major back injury as he missed the majority of last season. He made the NCAA Nat'l Championship Finals in the 100 meters a few years back and ran a 10.22 in that race. If healthy, he is capable of some eye popping times.

Then you have Shane Crawford of Purdue who also has been hurt over the last year the majority of time. He ran a 10.34 back in high school but hasn't duplicated it since. He has actually ran slower in his two years of college. I'm hoping he can return to form as he has 2 years left including this season. Good luck Shane.

Shane Crawford is off to a great start. He won his first race of the year today in a very solid time of 6.72! That is very fast for the start of the indoor season. I'm hoping he can stay healthy all year and set many new personal bests. This kid has so much talent. He just needs to avoid the injuries that have slowed him down the last couple of years. Congrats Shane. Welcome back to track! Here are the results.

my home-state Arkansas Razorbacks open the track season ranked #5 in the nation ... despite having a lot of young White guys running sprints.
smiley2.gif

you can see their entire roster here to see a comprehensive list, including several athletes i won't mention in this post. i'll just briefly mention the guys who caught my inexperienced eye ...

sophomore Marek Niit was the 2006 World Junior Champion in the 200 meters. despite battling injuries throughout the year, he still managed to regain enough form to qualify for the World Championships.

sophomore Travis Nollsch runs the 200 and 400 and was a member of the 9th-fastest Sprint Medley Relay team in Arkansas history.

sophomore Ben Skidmore was an All-American as a freshman and competed in the USA Junior National Championships. he has a personal best collegiate time of 47.58 in the 400 meters.

true freshman Chris Muncie enters the year with personal bests of 21.38 in the 200 and 47.22 in the 400.

true freshman Alex Kelly enters the year after setting a personal best of 47.89 in the 400, the 9th-fastest recorded time in Iowa state track history. he has a personal best of 22.12 in the 200, and has cleared 6-6 in the high jump.

For those of you who don't know. Shane Crawford has the fastest time ever run in the 60 meters for Purdue with a 6.70! He will smash that record this year having already run a 6.72 yesterday in his first race out with no competition. I am really excited to see what his potential will be outdoors in he can get his 60 times down in the low to mid 6.60's range. Rembemer that this kid was the 3rd fastest high school teenager in the world just a few years ago. No more injuries. I want to see him healthy and running with a vengence like he did back in high school. He is one of the best hopes at the moment for the american guys. I'm hoping he can tear it up over his last two years of college and maybe we will finally have a white US Sprinter to root for that runs the 100 meters. It's a long shot but you never know. He needs to continue to improve and most importantly stay healthy.

i don't think we talk about female track athletes nearly enough, so i thought i'd help out on that front just a bit.

BYU has two phenomenal ladies who deserve a lot of recognition.

1308086.jpg

sophomore Lacey Cramer won the 800-meter Indoor National Championship last year as a freshman!
smiley3.gif
smiley32.gif
she already holds the fastest 800 time ever at BYU ... and she's just a sophomore. wow!

3262102218_f37767ebb9.jpg

senior Amy Menlove Otis won the Indoor National Championship in the Pentathlon last year as a junior. en route, she set a meet record in the60-meter hurdlesand the pentathlon. she's also excellent in the long jump.

below is a nice profile on the two talents.

[tube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjzxN2r7LjA[/tube]

contrast the appearance and obvious intelligence of these twoWhite female athletes to the thuggish, mannish black females the media inundates us with.

okay, while i was admiring BYU's ladies, i thought i'd check out the top performances in the MWC Indoor Season this year. so here are some, perhaps surprising, results from Indoors.

there were very, very few White male short sprint specialists, but despite that we still had the 4th-fastest 60-meter time. Wyoming freshman Stephen Michel was credited with a 6.81-60. he was the only White man to crack the top-10 list in the MWC 60-meters.

stephenmichel.jpg

Stephen Michel

there were no White men who cracked the top-10 in the indoor 200-meters.
smiley19.gif

at the 400, however, White athletes had a big resurgence. 4 White athletes, all from BYU, cracked the conference top-10. senior Bryan Payne had a best of 48.04, which was good enough for 6th-place and just one-hundredth of a second out of the top five. senior Kevin Biesinger came in seventh with 48.34. junior Kevin Ahlstromand senior Robert Skidmore tied foreighth with 48.47.

bryanpayne.jpg

Bryan Payne

half of the top 60-meter hurdlers were White men. Wyoming had another freshman, Brandon Douglass, who cracked the MWC top-10, with an 8.19 which was good enough for the 4th-fastest time of the year. BYU junior Phillip Bettis had the fifth-fastest time, 8.23.Wyoming senior Jay Petch came in sixth, with an 8.30. BYU junior Tanner Emrich posted the seventh best time, with an 8.32. and Bryan Payne made another appearance, tying for ninth with an 8.40.

for the MWC ladies ...

in the 60 meters, San Diego State's senior Karoline Koehler had the second-fastest time, 7.40. BYU senior Mindy McClurkin posted the third-fastest time of the indoor season, 7.45. UNLV freshman Emily Blok (or is it spelled Block?) posted the number seven time, 7.63. BYU senior Amy Menlove Otiswas credited witha best of 7.68, which was good enough for ninth.

in the Indoor 200 meters, BYU's McClurkin had the best time, 23.34. San Diego State's Koehler came in at number four, 24.07. UNLV's Blok (Block?) had a 24.61, which was good enough for the eighth-best time of the season.

in the Indoor 400, the top White lady was BYU sophomore Natalie Stewart with a 54.63, which was good enough for fourth-best. UNLV freshman Kelsey Williamson posted the number seven time, 55.87. BYU sophomore Nachelle Stewart (Natalie's sister) came in at number eight, with a 56.12. Wyoming freshman Taylor Gardner rounded out the top-10, with a time of 56.91.

Wyoming senior Jennifer Schmitz took the number seven spot, with an 8.66. New Mexico senior Sandy Fortner finished out the White ladies at number nine, with an 8.70.

Amazing work Jimmy. I've been very busy lately and haven't been posting as much as I usually do. Especially in the track section. Track is my passion and I will be a contributor alot more very soon. I really appreciate your hard work as usual in showing people the light. There is so much talent out there. We just need to continue to fight the stereotypes and slotting that goes on in many sports.

It is going to be a historic summer. I feel that for sure. Keep up the good work my friend.

thanks, White Lightning.

and i hope you're right about this summer ... i'm really looking forward to it.

the next conference Indoor Season i looked up was the Big Ten.

for the men:

in the 60 meters, no one came close to Purdue's Shane Crawford. the junior had a conference best 6.66. he's the White devil!
smiley15.gif
smiley32.gif

the only other White athlete to crack the top-10 was Michigan State's Yury Ratomski, also a junior. he tied for eighth with a 6.84.

in the Indoor 200, the top White time was from Ohio State junior Curtis Leuenberger, who came in third with a 21.36. Purdue sophomore Mike Willey had the fourth-best time, with 21.37. Wisconsin junior Chas DeMers came in ninth, in 21.57.

in the 400 meters, 4 White men cracked the list. three of them ran for Iowa. junior Steven Willey had the number two time, 46.75. Iowa freshman Kevin Dibbern had the fourth-place time, 47.69. another freshman, Ohio State's Korbin Smith, picked up the number five time, 47.89. finally, Iowa junior Chris Barton finished out the list at number ten, with a 48.15.

in the 60-meter hurdles, Purdue junior Josh Hembrough had the number two time, 7.94. Wisconsin senior Nate Larkin was right behind him at number three, in 7.96. Iowa freshman Jordan Mullen came in at number seven, in 8.02. Minnesota senior R.J. McGinnis rounded out the top ten in the final spot, with an 8.10.

***********************************************

White ladies in the Big Ten were much more scarce ... only three cracked the top-10 lists in the short sprint events.

Penn State junior Caitlin DeFusco came in third in the 200 meters, with a 23.67. Penn State teammate Fawn Dorr, a senior, came in with the number four 200 time, in 23.74. she also posted the top 400-meter time, clocking a 52.53.

Wisconsin junior Egle Staisiunaite claimed the number ten spot in the 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 8.65.

in the Big East, two White men cracked the top-10 in the 60 meters.

longtime Caste Football favorite Michael LeBlanc of Syracuse was the top short sprint man, with a season-best 6.71. LeBlanc is the senior statesman for sprinting these days, as he has already graduated (and is now taking Graduate courses in pursuit of a Masters), but there is a youngster making waves in the Big East. Connecticut sophomore Kevin Steinberg took home the number six time in the 60 (6.85), and was the number three man in the Indoor 200-meters, with a best time of 21.72.

michaelleblanc.jpg

Michael LeBlanc

kevinsteinberg.jpg

also in the 200 meters, Rutgers sophomore Stephen Werner took the number five time in 21.82. i'd link his bio, but the Rutgers website is messed up. you can check out the Rutgers roster here. Marquette junior Tyler O'Brien rounds out the White presence in the 200, tied for the ninth spot with a 22.09.

tylerobrien.jpg

Tyler O'Brien

in the 400 meters, Rutgers sophomore Aaron Younger was the second-fastest performer this spring, with a best of 46.95. Georgetown sophomore Toby Ulm came in at number four, with a 47.95. Rutgers senior Steve Swern tied for eighth, with a best of 48.43.

tobyulm.jpg

Toby Ulm

no White blokes cracked the top 10 in the 60 hurdles.

*************************************************

for the ladies, the presence was very limited to two 400-meter runners andtwo 60-meter hurdlers ... but they provided a couple of elite efforts.

in the 400, Notre Dame senio Joanna Schultz took home the number two time, in 53.16. West Virginia senior April Rotilio came in sixth, with a 54.31.

joannaschultz.jpg

Joanna Schultz

in the 60 meter hurdles, West Virginia junior Chelsea Carrier took home the top time, in 8.22. Notre Dame freshman Nevada Sorenson came in fifth, with an 8.41.

Great work Jimmy!! I'm surprised to see the women not faring as well as the men. I was checking world records for the 100m and 200m and we all know that we have no white men in the top 10 list. However two European females, Irina Privalova and Ivet Lavola hold the 9th and 10th all time best times in the 100m. Also in the 200m four different European women have top 10 times. In the 400m the world record is held by German Marita
Koch and 5 of the top 10 times are by European women. So white women usually fair better than white men in the shorter sprints.

Just to add to that, Byram ran a 20.46 in the first heat to qualify for the finals and he also teamed up with David Ambler to help the Seminoles with the 4 x 100 Relay in just over 39 seconds! Pretty good endurance there. Ambler ran a 10.35 in the heats but faded bad in the finals.

very very talented was Kevin Little... so close in the 2000 Olympic final
and would have been almost the top sprinter in most countries other than the States or Jamaica, and this in a nation that doesn't seem to givwhite sprinters much of a push along.

I wished we'd had him along with Shirvo, Ross and Johnson... some relay team indeed.

funny, isn't it? with all the "black speed" in south Florida, virtually all the best sprinters for the Seminoles are White.

while working on this pet project, i think i've discovered a couple of impressive male athleteswho have yet to be mentioned at CF ...

unless i'm mistaken, the fastest 100-meter time posted by a White sprinter this year has been posted by Kansas State's Martynas Jurgilas,a 21-year old sophomore. on May 1, Jurgilas ran a 10.34, which narrowly edges out the 10.37posted earlier this springby David Ambler of Florida State.

Jurgilas is from Lithuania, where he is the national champion in the 60- and 100-meters, and has run 10.60 or faster five times this spring.

MartynasJurgilas.jpg

Martynas Jurgilas

another fleet-footed athlete i've not seen mentioned on CF is Cal Poly's freshman phenom Taylor Herrera. Herrera has posted a windy 10.49 100-meters this spring along with a 21.10 200, the fastest at the school in over a decade and in the top-10 all time (the 100 time would have been, as well, if it had been wind-legal).

taylorherrera.jpg

Taylor Herrera and his parents at his signing day

as an aside, all of Kansas State'stop sprinters are White men, with four sub-11 White runners on the roster (and another who has a season-best of 11.01).the unheralded university in Manhattan, Kansas actually holds twoof the top White sprinters competing in the USA.

jasonconiglio.jpg

Jason Coniglio

21-year old junior Jason Coniglio has posted a 10.55 in the 100 (second on the team) and ateam-best21.54 in the 200. sophomore decathlete Mantas Silkauskas (also from Lithuania) has posted a 10.73 into a negative wind. freshman hurdler Balazs Baji (from Hungary) has a season-best of 10.78 and a 22.12 200-meters with no wind. freshman Grant Loescher (11.01 100) has posted a season-best 22.06 200-meters.

FSU's Brandon Byram currently holds the #2 time nationally in the Outdoor 200-meters, but there aren't many more White men who've cracked the elite list at the national level. however, those that have are not well known here at CF, so i thought i'd post them.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee senior Tyler Bucholz saved the best for last this season, setting a new personal and Horizon League record at the conference championships with a 21.13 in the 200. he also shattered the school, conference and his own personal record when he ran a 46.69 in the 400-meters.it was the first sub-47 400 in school history.
smiley32.gif
at the conference championships, Bucholz also ran in the record-setting 4x400m relay and the 3rd-place 4x100. awesome!

tylerbucholz.jpg

North Carolina-Wilmington junior Justin Prevette set a new personal best this spring with a 21.13 200. he also lowered his 100-meter best to 10.68.

justinprevette.jpg

Justin Prevette

Nebraska senior Lukas Hulett posted a new personal best in the 200, in 21.17. the All-American also had a windy 46.90 400this year.

lukashulett.jpg

additionally ...

Wisconsin-Milwaukee's all-White record-setting championship 4x400 relay was made up of Bucholz and teammates Jared Foerch, a junior, Cory Yttre, also a junior (personal bests of 21.59 in the deuce and 47.48 in the 400), and freshman Ryan Weir.

coryyttre.jpg

Prevette, the UNCW school record holder in the long jump (25-6 1/4) was also part ofhis school's record-setting 4x100 relay this spring along with another White sprinter, freshman Jordan Reed (personal bests of 10.80-100 and 21.58-200). their relay team set the new mark at 40.47.

also, UNCW has a freshman 400-meter runner to keep an eye on. Connor Brooks has a personal best of 47.88.
