EMU has slowly been getting whiter since 2006, and this year's team looks to be even whiter! On a sad note, white CB Kevin Long has been switched to SS and is a backup behind Ryan Downard.

Offense
QB Andy Schmitt
TE Ben Thayer
LT Bridger Buche
LG Andy Fretz
C Eric Davis
RG Stephen Johnson
RT Dan DeMaster

Defense
DT Brad Ohrman
DT Tyler Palsrok
SS Ryan Downard
CB Mark Mitchell

Well, I don't know a lot besides what his profile says, but I have known about him for a couple of years. I kept stats on him last year as well. Here's the link to the 2008 RB thread:

Thanks Reb mainly i was trying to paint a picture of what kind of back he was. At 5'9 182 i'm guessing more of a scat back type.

Yeah, he's a back that you'd think of being at Northwestern or someplace like that. He's a really good player, he just needs more playing time.

Welch will be third string. I have no idea where you get the idea he's a first teamer. Blevins is the main guy.

(Not an indictment against Welch, but I just have no idea where you get the idea that he starts ahead of the starter from a year ago)

Well Mike, from everything I've read, Corey came out of spring football as the number one back. I think he'll be fighting Priest for PT more so than Blevins. Blevins is a big back and I think they will use him in short yardage. Corey is the speed man amongst the three and maybe for once the coaches want to use that to their advantage. You can certainly disagree with my explanation, but there it is.

You know, now that I think about it, I should probably list every white RB who is proclaimed the starter as being in a fight for the position because we all know that none of them are safe from demotion no matter how good they are or have been.

CR,
Can you provide a link? I (like you) would like to see Welch on the field in 2009, but the best I've read is that he will be used in compliment with Blevins and Priest...I know he was "named" the starter coming out of spring ball, but you and I know that does not mean a whole lot these days...

Here's the source I used and it is somewhat confusing. In the text they have Priest listed as the starter but the depth chart has Corey being the starter. If I'm wrong about him this season, I'll take him off of the list. We've overlooked white players before who were considered second or third string but ended up starting. There always seems to be a couple of white runners who come out of nowhere each year, and Corey could very well be one of them. We'll see what happens.

Projected Starter</span>:
</span>
While junior Dwayne
Priest
might not be the full-time starter, and he'll be
a part of the rotation, he should the team's best rushing
option. The coaching staff kept him under wraps late in spring
ball after working him hard this offseason, and now he has to
show if he can live up to his prep hype. A top recruit, he was
known more for being the Virginia state high school defensive
player of the year as a safety, to go along with his 20 rushing
touchdowns as a senior. He has been decent so far, rushing for
474 yards and five touchdown last season, but his workload was
limited over the second half of last year and he ended up being
used as much as a receiver, catching 14 passes for 125 yards and
a score, as he was as a runner. </span> </font></font>

</span>
Projected Top Reserves: </span>
Senior Terrence Blevins
was the starter in the first part of last year and ended up
leading the team with 575 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, but
he'll likely end up being the No. 3 back in the mix. With a
freakish mix of skills with 6-1, 226-pound size, 4.5 speed, and
lineman strength, he has the tools to be a workhorse. to start,
he'll be a short-yardage hammer and a between-the-tackles power
runner.

The starter coming out of spring ball was sophomore
Corey Welch
, a 5-9, 182-pound speedster who brings
home-run hitting speed to the equation. The team's top kickoff
returner, averaging 21.6 yards per try, he wasn't used much for
the offense with just 154 yards and two catches for three years.
Even so, he's a dangerous option who'll be used in a variety of
ways. </span></font></font>

RB
26 Corey Welch, 5-9, 182, Soph.
22 Dwayne Priest,
5-9, 186, Jr.
3 Terrence Blevins, 6-1, 238, Sr. </span></font>

Yeah, I love EMU's lineup right now. Hopefully Welsh can start for the Eagles. The only thing I am worried about is that they have a black coach now. If he'll be fair to whites I don't know, but it sure looks like it right now.
