BUFFALO: Drafted
Paul Posluzny MLB
Trent Edwards QB
John Wendling S
Derek Shcouman TE/HB/FB
Offense:
QB: Time to put up or get out for JP! Craig Nall and Trent Edwards are ready to go! Kevin Eakin from the Ti-Cats is also with the Bills.
WR: Scott Mayle (Ohio U) UDFA- Listed WAY down on the depth chart.
2006: Played in all 14 games, making 13 starts ... Caught 28 passes for a team-high 411 yards ... His 14.7 yards per catch was the highest on the team ... Also had four rushes for 57 yards and a touchdown ... Led the Bobcats with 14 kickoff returns for 287 yards ... His 20.5 average was third on the team ... Was named MAC East Division Special Teams Player of the Week after a season-long 46-yard kickoff return that set up a field goal at Eastern Michigan ... Caught a season-high five passes for 38 yards in the season-opener against UT Martin ... Had at least two receptions in each of the Bobcats first five games ... Had two catches for 64 yards at Illinois, including a 58-yard catch and run that set up Ohio's first touchdown ... Caught three passes for a season-high 88 yards against Miami ... His 38-yard and 34-yard catches improved his career total of plays from scrimmage covering at least 20 yards to 31 ... Made two catches in the MAC Championship Game ... Ranked fourth in school history for most receptions in a career with 107 ... Second in most receiving yards in a career with 1,847 ... Third in touchdown receptions for a career with 11.
O-Line: Pre training camp starters: All Black
No white running backs to report.
TE/FB (?): Derek Schouman, Ryan Neufeld, and Brad Cieslak.
Of the six ends that are reporting to camp, the three blacks are currently listed on the team's depth chart at TE and the whites ends are listed as fullbacks. It's strange.
Defense:
DL: The Bills are stacked with great white defensive linemen. They have three great defensive ends in Chris Kelsay, Ryan Denney, and Pro Bowler Aaron Schobel. Inside Tim Anderson and Kyle Williams will compete for the RT position while a stack of blacks will compete for the left.
Linebackers: Bills will play a 4-3
SML: Josh Stamer- 3rd String, Special Teams
MLB: John DiGiorgio and Paul Posluszny will duke it out in camp for the starting job.
WLB: Safety convert Coy Wire is listed behind black SLB convert Keith Ellison. Neither have much experience on the weak side. This competition should be interesting to watch.
Cornerbacks: Yeah, right!
Safety:
SS: Jim Leonhard (2nd string SS / 3rd string Punt Returner) at NYJ (12/10), made his first career start and had five tackles on defense and one on special teams. He will be "competing" against Ko Simpson.
FS: John Wendling (Academic All-Mountain West Conference, All-District VII, All-America and Draddy Award finalist.)
It's Donte Whitner's job to loose. Wendling has been penciled in at 3rd string behind Whitner (he's not bad) and a 1st year converted receiver named George Wilson. Wilson has spent the last two years in the NFL system and has yet to make a tackle.
Is it me, but is it a rule that talented whites are made to compete against each other or be put in un-winnable predicaments? Is there a word for this?
