I noticed that David Lee started tonites game for the Knicks. He scored five points but had lots of rebounds. I'm wondering why he's starting now, and also who was the last white Knick starter?

Keith Van Horn was with the Knicks as a starter for the first half of the '03-'04 season. As I recall, Isaih Thomas traded him to Milwaukee for a traditional looking Knicks starter. Before Van Horn it had been a long time since the last white NY starter.

I think their last white starters were Bill Bradley and Dave
Debusschere:)

It's probably because the
Knicks suck ass and Larry Brown is trying find the right combination to
put on the court. Pulling down 12 rebounds is damn good for David Lee
but the Knicks still lost.

NEW YORK (AP) â€â€￾ David Lee was once happy with whatever
playing time he got for the New York Knicks.

When the rookie was given more than he ever could have
imagined, he delivered in a big way.

Lee had season highs of 23 points and 15 rebounds while
playing 52 minutes, and the Knicks outlasted the Phoenix Suns
140-133 on Monday night in three overtimes to snap a three-
game losing streak.

"David Lee played phenomenal tonight," Stephon Marbury
said. "He's definitely the MVP of the game. Whenever you got a
guy slashing and dunking, it makes it a lot easier for me
penetrating."

Marbury scored 32 points, including seven in the third OT, and
added 10 assists against his former team. But it was the play of
Lee and Eddy Curry (20 points, season-high 15 rebounds)
against the foul-plagued Phoenix frontcourt that helped the
Knicks take the lead for good in the third overtime.

A first-round pick from Florida, Lee played little at the beginning
of the season and was even on the inactive list for seven
straight games. But Larry Brown recently made him the starting
small forward, and Lee kept providing more energy Monday
than anyone guarding him.

"I have been waiting for this opportunity to get in there and the
coach has been happy with me lately and told me to just go out
there and play as hard I can," Lee said. "I just brought the same
attitude I've been bringing, and instead of bringing that attitude
for five or 10 minutes, I had a chance to bring it for some more
time tonight."

I am so happy for him.He is a great kid and a incredible athlete.I'm hoping he will enter the NBA Slam Dunk Contest because I'm positive he can win it.To see him starting in his rookie year is a bonus.I belive he will eventually be an all star.Keep up the good work David!

David Lee is clearly outplaying
Frye so far this year but
Isiah is sticking with Frye although Lee's minutes have increased. More
of the same Caste system.

David Lee is the best rebounder on their team i.m.o. If only they would play him 35-40 minutes a night. He would dominate but off course that would make too much sense. This kid is strong as hell and can jump out of the gym.Hang in there David. After he put's in his time in NY,he should become a free agent and go where they will play him more and appreciate him.

in 48 minute production Lee is 2nd in the league, I believe, in
Rebounding and is shooting in the low 60's FG percentage wise, but only
allowed to get his 10 points a game. Stephon Marbury has to get
his 20+ shots a game. Marbury and Crawford stink. They always have shot
low
FG%, and are a detriment to their team. Lets just hope the Knicks are
the worst team in the league this year, that is unless Isiah Thomas is
fair to Lee. However a coach who says "If Larry Bird were black he
would be just another player" doesn't at all sound like a reasonable
assessor of talent. He's either blind or a "reverse racist." The 2nd is
probabley more plausible!

David Lee puts up very good numbers for the limited time he sees on the court. He shoots at a high percentage and rakes in the rebounds.

Lee had 20 pts. last night on 9-10 shooting! My cousin who is a Knicks
fan from Jersey said the papers have referred several times to
Lee's season contributions only as "solid" and that there will be a
battle for playing time for Lee and Frye and Jefferies when they
return. It sounds quite ridiculous to me... Lee is playing like a top 5
power forward in the league if he was given fair minutes, but the
papers are only calling his contributions "solid" and saying nothing is
guaranteed about Lee's playing time increasing when Frye and Jefferies
return...Man this unfairness is really starting to agrivate me.

If 9-10 is solid, what's 10-10?

I'm starting to think Frye is Isiah's gay lover.

My cousin e-mailed me a blurb from
a NJ paper on David Lee. He doesn't have
a scanner so he had to type it up:

Bench doesn't sit well with Lee: Knicks notebook. By Lisa Kennelly, Star Ledger Staff:

New York- The only lineup adjustment coach Isiah Thomas has confirmed
for when his injured players return is that David Lee will go back to
the bench.

That won't make the Madison Square Garden crowd happy, and Lee isn't completely thrilled about it either.

"Let's put it this way-I don't
think it's a complement," Lee said,
"but at the same time I
respect his judgement, whatever he
decides to do, whether it's coming off
the bench or playing tonight. I like to
think that I can bring that
consistant energy whether I'm starting or not."

When Jared Jefferies returns from his broken wrist
sometime next week and when Channing Frye recovers from his sprained
ankle, it will necessitate some lineup shuffling. Thomas' certainty of
benching Lee is somewhat surprising. Not only is the 6-9 forward
leading the team in rebounding with 8.9 per game, but he is one of the
team's most popular players.

He is averaging 12.8 points and 8.0 rebounds in 30.6
minutes as a starter. He averages 9.9 points and 9.2 rebounds in his 15
games off the bench.

"I'm surprised they already made the decision," Lee
said, "but as long as I get a chance to go in and contribute and the
team can hopefully get on a winning streak here, that's...important to
me."

This shows how much
harder it is for white guys to earn a starting job
and how much easier it is for them to lose it...
I'm glad Lee had the guts to say something
about this ridiculous decision. Isiah
Thomas seems to make one stupid decision after
another. However, I think this decision on his part is due to
racism. A guy who can actually say that "if Larry Bird were black he
would be just another player," probably has some inherent racism in
him. Lets just hope the Knicks suck and Isiah loses his job.

Lee should have spoken out even stronger due to this discrimination, here's his stats on the season:

26:41 minutes, 63.7 FG%, 81.3 FT%, 8.9 Rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.5 TO, 1.1 Stl, 0.4 Blks, 10.7 PPG

I'd say that those are dominant stats especially
when you consider that he is only playing 26:41 minutes a game and that
he rarely gets to shoot the ball with ball hog Marbury on the team. He
is also having to deal with having a boneheaded coach who is biased
against him. Channing Frye was stinking it up before the injury but
automatically gets the starting job back...Proposterous, maybe Isiah is
Frye's gay lover!

it's well-known that thomas hates white players. his first move upon taking over the Knicks was to get rid of every white player on the roster, and he did so within 3 days. when Brown drafted David Lee, he was pissed!

thomas is a loser, plain and simple. every decision he's made since his playing days ended has been bad. this is just the latest example.

During the rumble in the jungle tonight, David Lee was the leading rebounder in the game with 15. He shot 6-10 from the floor which is very good, but under his 64% season tally. He has been steadily improving.

It's going to be hard for Isiah (even though he resents white players) to put Lee back to the bench when Jefferies returns from suspension. Frye is stinking it up. Lee is also apparently a Knick fan favourite!

The Knicks starting lineup if Isiah had any brains, would be. Francis PG, Crawford SG, Q. Richardson and Jefferies splitting even time at SF, David Lee PF, Curry C. 6th man: Marbury SG to provide a scoring spark (more like an overshooting spark), and if he keeps compaining completly bench him. 7th Man: Renaldo Balkman at either forward position, 8th man: PG Nate Robinson, 9th man: C Jerome James, 10th man: Frye, unless he improves his play.

Lee clearly is the biggest difference maker on the Knicks, and whenever he plays big minutes like tonight against Utah the Knicks do better! Lee should be given 35-40 minutes of playing time a game, at least!Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

This kid is just amazing. He should be in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. His vertical is 40 inches plus.David Lee is also one of the toughest players in the league. He gets in there and bangs for the tough rebounds and put backs.

I like the fact that we are finally seeing alot more American Born White Basketball Players who are athletic.
David Lee will be joined in a couple of years by guys like Chase Budinger,Tyler Hansborough,Josh McRoberts, and many others. These white players are going to help change the way that the fans look at white basketball players.Everyone of them can jump out of the gym and they all have the potential to be all stars. Will the NBA give them a fair shot?I sure hope so.

NBAdraft.net is comparing Josh McRoberts to Chris Webber! They also give Chase Budinger a 10 out of 10 ranking for athleticism and state that his vert is 40+ inches, Another poster said he heard Chase's top vert is 45 inches!
