Damn, Neveda you beat me to it, I was going to create a new topic call "Euro Lakers vs Boston Africans"

The odds on who wins will be a toss up. I hope the Euros along with that token blk Kobe

can win the whole thing.

Isn't that a switch? Once the Celtics were the whiter team now the Lakers. I was always a big Celtics fan, now for some reason

I'm pulling for the Lakers. Times sure do change.

Tis strange indeed! I haven't watched much basketball since the Bird-Johnson wars of the 80s. Hopefully Pau Gasol will get to shine above Bryant in this series and the Lakers will win it. Pau got mis-treated by Memphis, in my opinion. He was their best player.

Reb, barring a injury to Kobe I don't think it's possible for Gasol to shine above Kobe. Maybe he could outplay and out perform Kobe in a couple of games to get more credit. But the series is about Kobe. There was some analyst on last night, (forgot the name) who said the Lakers were Kobe and a bunch of role players. I don't think Gasol, Odom, and to a lesser extent Fisher are role players.

Thats really what I meant, because even if he does outplay Bryant, he still won't get the media attention. I probably won't be watching the games much, as I've got too much school work to do, so I'll read about it here.

I figured that's what you meant, Reb.

How many white players does it take to qualify a team as 'Euro?'

With Kobe's larger than life persona on the Lakers, I wouldn't call them a Euro team. They are heavily Euro influenced though.

I noticed that there are a few more whites on the Lakers roster this year compared to years past, but other than Pao Gasol and Luke "I'll never be as good as my dad" Walton I don't notice the other white players so much in the media.

I do however think that many in the media tend to hate on Gasol just because it's sometimes very obvious that he's more important to the team than Odom.

That's a good point. It's hard to deny Gasol's importance or the Lakers record after the trade for Gasol. So they demean him by calling him soft. How does a soft player get 19 rebounds in the closeout playoff game against the Spurs the other night? If you are lucky, three or four rebounds may bounce right to you but you have to work for the other 15.

Nevada, almost nobody thinks of Kobe as a Euro. He does play on our so called Olympic dream team doesn't he? I concede that you are technically right, but not really.

They've been calling Pau soft since before he stepped on the hardwood in Memphis. Same thing with AK in Salt Lake City.

LOL @ counting Kobe Bryant as a 'Euro.' He's not white and he doesn't play European style basketball.

On a site like this, one would think labeling a team 'Euro' would mean the majority of the players were of whites from Europe. How many white players are there actually on the Lakers? Edited by: White Shogun

On a more serious note Boston in the mid sixties was primarily a black team with Hondo being there heart and soul. Once Cousy and Heinsohn retired Boston became primarily black until the Cowens/Hondo teams.

22 men wearing business suits in the Celtics team picture!?! Who are they, a random section of season ticket holders?

Heinsohnis 15 and Cousy is 14. Also on some of those early to mid 60's teams only Heinsohn and Cousy started. Once Cousy retired then it was just Tommy. Early in Hondo's career he also was a super sub and the term 6th man was because of Hondo. Edited by: white is right

That is a very well written article. Zimmerman makes some points that we continually stress at CF. I think that's great that a story like that could find its way onto a major site. Cheers.

Nice mainstream article. I posted it on the CF myspace page as a blog. Thanks for the link, whiteafflete15!

Haven't seen a minute of the finals, but in checking the box scores, the Lakers have gone to the line only 38 times, the Celtics 73 times. Huge difference. No wonder they are up by two. Is it the style of the teams or are the officials a contributing factor?
