What if a talented white HS prospect at RB decided to make himself look physically black(with real makeup and everything) for his games? I think it could be done. If he could keep it up in college and then go to the NFL, have a big year, and then reveal to the world that he is white, it'd be interesting to see what the reaction would be.
Leonard needs to really fight hard throughout the season just for carries. He also needs to maintain his celebrity. What was the excuse for Rice starting over Leonard?

Schiano only needed one, the fact that Rice is black and Leonard is white. The myth of black athletic supremacy did the rest. Everyone will see the truth of the situation this year when Rice has to make the yards on his own without Leonard to block for him and give him a breather.

This is great news let the debate begin. It is high time that this issue be addressed in the main stream media. Kudos to the article writer for having guts to state the obvious. I hope this is the start of a major shift in college and pro football for the better of all white athletes. The barriers of not allowing white athletes to play the position they want because of skin color is far worse then what some radio host says about a particular group of women. However which one got more news covearage and led to the hosts firing things in this country things are truly are not fair for white men and especially the white athlete need I say more.

I just wrote AJ an email. I hope this does start a shift in writing about these things. I was talking with Jimmy Chitwood last night and we were discussing the "saturation point" at which a lot people will get fed up with what is going on, as they become aware of it, and things will slowly start to change. I hope this happens soon. It does seem as though the media levee has sprung a few leaks and the truth is getting out. Now if that dam bursts, we'll be getting somewhere!

My "saturation point" was reached some time ago, that's why i was glad to find this forum. The situation has gotten to the point it is because many people are basically lazy and ignorant, so they just accept the "conventional wisdom". It is just so easy to come to believe that because something is oftentimes true, or, even, mostly true, that it is always true. Eventually the situation becomes "blacks are generally faster than whites, therefore all blacks are faster than all whites" and so on. And it gets to the point where all NFL running backs are black only because it becomes assumed that all black running backs are better than all white running backs.

My saturation point was reached long ago too and im in my mid-20s. I began to look around and question why there weren't more Sehorn's in the league a few years back and when I got into playin Madden I noticed no white rbs and from there I researched and I stumbled on this site. Its good to know the word is getting out there.

Also I made a post on another site comparing Matt Jones to Calvin Johnson and was laughed at even though Matt Jones is 6'6 240 and runs a 4.39 and CJ is 6'5 235 and runs a 4.35 40. Very equal measurables yet people think Calvin Johnson is some sort of football god and Matt Jones is just a workout warrior. I cannot wait to see CJ not live up to the hype.

The guy is that article just about sucks up to black people worse than Michael Richards so that people won't think he's racist. The article is almost a joke. He only comments on how Leonard is being discriminated against and fails to mention any racial bias NFL or college coaches have against white RBs. The Pete Prisco one was much much better.

USA Today breaks down the top running backs and full backs in the draft, and Leonard listed as the number 3 RB behind Peterson and Lynch.

The only thing more consistent than running back Brian Leonard plowing through defenses are the stale, yet accurate, cliches analysts use to describe his game.

Hard-nosed.

Old school.

Rugged.

Leonard hears them all and goes about his business -- one punishing hit at a time.

At 6-foot-2 and 226 pounds, the former Rutgers star looks like a fullback. He has more experience, however, as a tailback. He has the 2,779 collegiate rushing yards and 32 touchdowns to prove it. He also has the most carries (678) in school history, despite giving up the bulk of the work to Ray Rice last year.

Such a shift would lead some players to complain. Not Leonard, who adapted his focus and game for the NFL.

He may have only picked up 427 rushing yards and caught 38 passes as a senior, but he made sure to play a key role on the team.

"Ray Rice is not just a heck of a running back, he's also a heck of a guy," Leonard said at the Scouting Combine. "Yes, I was the star running back for three years, but I embraced my role as the fullback. Making a block for Ray felt just as good as scoring an 80-yard touchdown."

It all worked out for the Scarlet Knights who finished 10-2, were in the hunt for the Big East title until the final week of the regular season and defeated Kansas State by 27 points in only the school's second bowl appearance since 1978.

Leonard bulked up to 238 pounds during the season, but trimmed down for the Senior Bowl and combine. He took reps at tailback and fullback during Senior Bowl week, showing a unique blend of finesse and power. That was clear thanks to the heavy sweat and blood stains that dotted his uniform even after practices.

He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds at the combine and benched 225 pounds 28 times, rounding out his diverse skill-set.

"If a team needs me to be a straight-ahead blocking fullback, then that's what I'll do," he said. "I don't feel that using me that way would be getting the best out of me but, if the team wants me to do that, I'll do it. I'm all about helping a team win. All I care about is helping a team win and I'll do whatever it takes to help them.

"I think I'm at my best when I get out in the flat, get the ball in my hands and make some people miss. But again, if the team wants me to be a straight-ahead blocking fullback, I'll do it to the best of my ability."

NFLDraftScout.com has Leonard slotted as the draft's third-best running back and predicts he'll be drafted sometime in the second round. Ironically, his draft stock could have improved from staying at school an extra year and splitting time with another running back.

He's been compared to Buccaneers fullback Mike Alstott, who has been one of the more offensively involved fullbacks in the league during his 12-year career. He was a second-round pick out of Purdue in 1996.

Leonard acknowledges the comparison, but made no attempt to hide his desire to take the position to the next level.

"I like Mike Alstott a lot, but I'm more versatile," Leonard said. "I think I'm the kind of player that can stay on the field from first to fourth down. I can run the ball, catch it, block and pass block. Whatever they need me to do. I think I'm able to handle a full workload."

Leonard was a first-team All-American last season and a second-team All-Big East performer. He was also a co-captain on the Rutgers roster and was the teams Most Valuable Offensive Player.

If that wasn't enough, he was also named National Scholar Athlete of the Year by the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame.

There's a personable element to the hard-nosed Leonard, shown by his decision to stay in school after his junior season and not enter the NFL Draft, despite an impending shift to a support role in the Rutgers offense.

"I was coming off three straight good years, so I definitely thought about (turning pro)," he said. "I sent for some information from the NFL and they told me I'd be a first-day draft pick. I talked it over with my family and others and they all told me to follow my heart.

"I stayed and I have no regrets. I didn't carry the ball as much this year, but I don't think it hurt my draft status at all."

That seems to be the case as the days inch closer to the 2007 NFL Draft and every Brian Leonard cliche comes out of the woodwork."

That is the same article that was posted a week or two back, or at least it reads the same way. Same 4.52 instead of 4.49, same comparison to Alstott, and same reply. Maybe they are just reposting it there, as I have noticed a lot of stories that are done that way.

Sorry if it was a repost. I google Brian Leonard daily to try and find updates and news. See if teams invite him for private work outs etc.

It's 4.52 because his original 4.49 time was video reviewed. The NFL reviews the 40 times then corrects them, thus the 4.52.

According to NFL.com, he ran a 4.49 and a 4.52 at the combine.

"[Leonard is] so gifted. He can do so many things," Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said. "And yet he's an unselfish guy. To do what he did in this day and age [switching positions] is very rare.

Leonard emerged on the Division I scene following one of the best high school careers in New York history. He received attention from Penn State and Notre Dame after he became the state's all-time leading scorer with 696 points, including 107 touchdowns and 5,854 rushing yards. Leonard led Gouverneur High to a state championship his senior season.


He led the Rutgers offense his first three seasons, and he finished as the school's leader in all-purpose yardage (5,961) and points (272).


Following three years as Rutgers' primary ball carrier, Leonard considered leaving school early and asked for information from the NFL. He was projected as a first-round pick but ultimately opted to stay in school and graduate.


"He's extremely versatile and the ultimate team player," NFL.com senior analyst Pat Kirwan said. "He's probably a second-round guy, but don't be shocked if he lasts 10 years in the NFL."


Leonard's body caught a break last season when he wasn't an every-down back, but he feels he's durable enough and wants to handle the ball in the NFL.

Because he doesn't possess the speed and skills to be an every-down back in the NFL, Leonard is prepared to do the grunt work of a fullback, as long as it helps obtain his ultimate goal - a win.

I live in Philly and a lot of the fans and media here want Leonard but see him as a FB. And rightly so, they have Westbrook, where does Leonard fit in at tailback/ They also pass like 65% of the time. Not a good fit for him, imo.
