The Phillies played a day game today, and an interesting personnel move occurred. Manager Charlie Manuel pulled Jimmy Rollins from the lineup after he jogged half-heartedly to first base after a fly ball that turned out to be dropped by the Reds fielder. He was almost thrown out.

Rollins was replaced by Eric Bruntlett, who proceeded to record a base hit and make a diving knockdown and throw to first that will probably make Sportscenter Top 10. Phils commentators Harry Kalas and Gary Matthews Sr. were all praise for Bruntlett. ESPN's Tim Kurkjian even said "Bruntlett is a great shortstop. He could start anywhere."

Don't know why Manuel did this. Perhaps he's trying to bust Rollins out of a mini-slump. Maybe he was really displeased with the lack of hustle. Either way, this was a completely surprising move by Manuel.

Of course it isn't permanent, but it is quite interesting.Edited by: PhillyBirds
