We missed some weekend fights Arsen Goulamirian defended his WBA cruiserweight title against Aleksei Egorov a Russian national who was a hand picked foe.
He wasn't handpicked mate. Egorov has been his mandatory challenger for years, he's a strong good fighter who was also a top amateur.

I watched and enjoyed the fight. Two granite chinned, big punchers going at it in the centre of the ring .Egorov started well, I had him 3-2 up after 5 rounds, Goulamarian took over in the 2nd half of the fight though for a deserved win.

Samuel Carmona, an impressive spanish flyweight with amateur pedigree is being fast tracked to a world title fight next week against Julio Cesar Martinez in just his 9th pro fight.

Hopefully he wins that. Seems like Spanish boxing is on the up. Whereas German boxers are as poor as I can remember.

I guess I wasn't paying attention to the WBA rankings. By the way how did you watch the fight?

I couldn't find a British channel covering the title fight, I probably would have watched the fight if I didn't have to watch a craptastic stream.

Lots of boxing this weekend. Most of it is from London which looks like it is becoming the boxing mecca of the world.

Yes it's a busy weekend for UK cards as the Whyte vs Franklin card is dueling with the Parker vs Ryder card. White prospects are on the under card of both fights but the Parker vs Ryder card has a better main event as Whyte should walk through the buttery built and protected Franklin who has fought no true contenders of note.

PS For the first update of the weekend Wordley defeated Gorman with a violent 3rd round tko. Gorman had his moments in this fight but once he wobbled Wardley in the 2nd round it seemed that it became a shoot out and he couldn't take the fire power of Wardley.

The Ryder vs Parker WBO interim title fight was a dud as Ryder stopped Parker due to an injury stoppage in the 4th round. Ryder is now the mandatory for Alvarez's WBO belt.

Whyte vs Franklin was more entertaining than I thought it would be as Franklin didn't fade in the middle rounds and gave as good as he got until the 12th where Whyte finally staggered Franklin and had him hanging on until the final bell.

Neither fighter looked they can seriously upset the apple cart against the elite of the division(Fury and Usyk) but against B level guys they could be a test.

Bakhodir Jalolov crushed man boobed club fighter Curtis Harper. The huge Uzbek keeps on impressing and is ready for a non spoiler professional loser type. These fights he is fighting now are easier than the sparring sessions than the Uzbek has leading up to these fights.

Prograis vs Zepeda follows later tonight and they are fighting for the vacant WBC that was stripped of the Scotsman Taylor who only has one belt left at 140.

John Ryder won the interim WBO super middleweight title yesterday to become mandatory for Canelo Alvarez. There was a display of good sportsmanship from both Ryder and Zack Parker after the fight.

Quite a card coming up on Saturday

I don't know about that as Fury is a 25 to 1 betting favorite to beat Chisora in a totally unnecessary third bout. Dubois who is about a 15 to 1 betting favorite to beat Lerena is the chief support bout. Unless there is an upset in either bout the card will have the intrigue of the Madoff trial and sentencing.

At least in North America ESPN+ has the broadcast rights for the fight. In England it's a totally unnecessary PPV(I hope it bombs). This fight should be a free card on BT sports or even free to air television.

I recall Ali taking similar bouts against Dunn and Coopman while he waited for the next super bout but those were all on ABC not close circuit.

Yes, the two main events are mismatches. Lerena is a cruiserweight facing a big, hard-punching heavyweight, and has gained weight which will just slow him down. He won't win a decision on a Warren card in England, no matter whether he deserves to or not, and may well be the victim of an early stoppage by a dodgy Warren referee.

The one interesting fight on the card is Yvan Mendy (47-5-1, 22 KOs) versus 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist Denys Berinchyk (16-0, 9) from Ukraine.

Yes you are right even if Lerena were to box the ears off of Dubois we could see a bogus draw or a weird split decision win for Dubois. Also referees stop fights too quickly in GB because of the past tragedies in the ring on national tv so you could see a wobbly but coherent Lerena protesting a quick hook too.

I had no clue what fighters were buried on the deep under card I may tune in early to watch the card if there is a prospect worth watching.

PS speaking of dodgy referees Carlos Padilla who is as old as dirt and must have been making a death bed confession admitted he aided Pac Man in one of his fights over the mediocre Nedal Hussein who Pac Man would have probably blown out after he got on Trevor Ariza's good PED regiment....https://fightnews.com/wbc-statement-on-referee-carlos-padilla/141120

PS 2 The Fury vs Chisora III weights are in and the weigh in results are interesting. Fury is 268 and change and Chisora is 260 and change, Fury is at decent fighting weight for his new style so he is taking the fight seriously conditioning wise. Chisora is heavy set but within his recent weight range so he could have better stamina than it would appear.

In the semi final Lerena weighed in at 231 on the nose and Dubois weighed in at 240 and change. Lerena BMI wise is stockier than the naturally larger Dubois. I don't think this weight helps Lerena unless he can chin Dubois as he is built more like rugby player than a near 6' fighter should weigh for mobility and in and out boxing.

Josh Kelly looked brilliant tonight. Very talented, fast skilful fighter. Showed some flaws in the past,. however it all came together tonight fighting for the british title, he smoked Troy Williamson with ease ,winning every roud

The Bookies laughably had the mixed raced Williamson as favourite. I made some money on that :), wish I'd have put more on though!

W'e'll see, I actually think Lerena has a outside chance. and should make it interesting in the early rounds at least. Althought undersized he's a good, fast fighter with decent power who was a top 10 cruiserweight,.The overrated Dubois is very stiff and struggles with movers with speed. I think Lerena should be given better odds than the bookmakers are saying anyway.

It looks like you handicapped this fight well as Dubois was dropped twice and very cautious after the knockdowns. I missed the start of the fight as I assumed the fight would start after 4pm and only saw the replays of the knock downs. I did see Dubois half running and boxing and looking fearful and I wondered if had an injury. Then Dubois dropped Lerena and cornered him and the referee was within his rights to stop the fight but he allowed a wobbly Lerena to go back to his corner but I couldn't figure out if the Lerena corner or the doctor stopped the fight as Lerena didn't come out for the 4th round.

I will have to see a replay with sound as I have sound on the World cup match on at the moment.

PS you were both right as the referee stopped the fight before Lerena was given a chance to come out for the fourth round and Dubois was dropped 3 times and might have had a short round to clear his head. If I didn't know any better I would think the fight occurred in Luna Park and Victor Galindez was being battered in the ring.

As expected Fury dominated Chisora in an aggressive "exhibition". Chisora might have won the first round and after that it was one sided sparring traffic. The referee stopped the fight in the middle of the tenth round after Chisora took a combination but wasn't in distress but he taken a frightening amount of punishment and wasn't returning anything but isolated wild winging shots.

The dishonest timekeeper rang the bell early in the first round to save Dubois, who was badly hurt from a temple shot, a similar punch to the one Ruiz hit Joshua with in the fight he won several years ago. Then, the dodgy ref let Dubois punch Lerena after the bell in round 3, and waved it off without a count. Lerena would likely have recovered between rounds.

In other words, they did all they could to help Dubois.

If the BBC has an integrity they should do an inquiry on why the first round was short ten seconds and why Foster ruled a tko win for Dubois when it was early in the fight Lerena was walking back to his corner without aid and complaining to the referee. Exactly as we envisioned for this fight if Dubois was found wanting.

I don't even think the WBA will rule in the favor of Lerena for a rematch and even if they do since this is a near worthless secondary belt Dubois could dump the belt to "pursue other opportunities". Just look at what happened to Charr who is owed a shot himself.

Terrible corruption, clearly the bell was rang early when Dubois was in huge trouble in that first round. Then the referee didn't give Lerena any chances to recover (like they did Dubois) in a fight he was winning , should have give him a standing count.

It was also bizarre how Lerena didn't fully let his hands go after Dubois was hurt (possibly a fix?)

The WBA even has a 3 knockdown in round and the contest is ended rule. But luckily Dubois has got away with that... Article today says 'It is critical to note that in bouts governed by the WBA rules three (3) knockdowns in the same round automatically end the bout by TKO. Also, WBA rules specify that the bell cannot save the fighter in ANY round,” However, the British Boxing Board of Control does not permit the rule in fights under their auspices, allowing Dubois to launch his spirited comeback

I told you Dubois was overrated, he's just another Great Black Hope hypejob. He's a glass cannon waiting to be fully exposed. He has no heart and poor punch resistance. A very weak mentally fighter. Vladyslav Sirenko knocked him out in sparring.

The guy who upset Mikey Garcia, Sandor Martin, is fighting Teofimo Lopez. Josh Warrington and Conlan fight this weekend.

We also have David Avanesyan as the B side against Crawford on an obscure ppv. The projections for the ppv sales are a miniscule 50K but Crawford has a fat guarantee because BLK network lured him away from "slave master" Arum. As we saw last week Avanesyan will have to knock Crawford into next week or beat him from pillar to post as he is the jewel of this upstart network and house judges and a house referee will be working this fight.

Warrington was just declared the loser on a tight score card it seemed like his White Mexican opponent had too many rounds banked for Warrington to overcome. I never heard of this guy before but he will fight again on network tv. He may be the b side against a higher profile champion or even the B side in England in a rematch with Warrington.

Spaniard Sandor Martin defeated Teofimo Lopez, scoring two knockdowns. But he was robbed on the scorecards by the dodgy officials, and the Top Rank referee didn't count the second knockdown.

The fight was in New York, the home town of Lopez.
