The 6'0 190 lbs Soph. 3rd WR for Ohio State would be staring on any other team in the nation(except we got the best WR corps in the country). He was a top notch WR and the best CB in high school as well as a top 100 meter sprinter in the state of Ohio. Yesterday against Iowa he had 6 catches for 90 yards and 2 TDs. Including like a 40 yarder in which he blew by all the black DBs. Prompting both announcers to admit he is as fast as they come. Tony is without a doubt will be playing on Sundays in a couple years. Definitly a player to keep an eye from. If you can keep up with him. lol

it's interesting to note that they moved him to receiver...he was rated VERY highly as a corner coming out of high school, but the knock on him was that he didn't have great hands as a wideout. has that changed? you would think, as deep as OSU is at wide receiver, they would have left him at corner because they can certainly use the help there.

Well when Gonzalez came to OSU it was the other way around at the time. CB was stocked(with Fox and Gamble still having 2 yrs of eligbility) and WR was the not so stacked pos.(remember Ginn was still a JR in H.S. and Holmes was raw and so we needed more help at WR). I actually think if I remember corectly that Tony finished in the top 5(maybe 2nd) for Defensive MVP in Ohio for his outstanding play at CB. I think he only gave up 5 passes the whole year and none over 15 yards, over the course of 15 games(including playoffs). He was awesome at track though and won a lot of events and finished 1st in the state at something.

Aren't we talking about a Hispanic player here? Do you consider Carlos Beltran or Rafael Palmeiro white? To me it is the same as blacks embracing Tiger Woods as one of their own in spite of the fact he is half Asian.

Don't forget that there are many Americans whose ancestors came to this country from Spain, and there are many people who live in Central and South America (especially southern South America) who are completely of white European background. "Hispanics" can be white, non-white, and mixed.

You can't know someone's race solely by their last name; it cuts both ways as there are plenty of athletes with German, Polish, Italian, etc. last names who turn out to be black.

Also most of the mixed Hispanics are part Indians-Indians and other Asiastics are assigned an even lower place on the Caste System totem pole than we are. Not saying that I root for them over my own Folk, but when one can run fast and say "So there!"!!! to the system, I consider it a good thing.

Gonzalez is a good guy and looks pretty darn white to me. I really don't care what he is as first he's an OSU player and second he looks so white and is fast as hell. So I'll keep on rooting for him. I think it might be what Don said that his ancestors are from Spain and he's European because even his older brother Joe looks just like him.

Tony had 4 catches for 67 yards and a TD. Tony you could say is the Brandon Stokley of Ohio St as he pratically starts as Ohio St really doesn't use a FB a lot so Tony starts in his place as Ohio St uses 3 WRs all the time now. If and probably when Santonio Holmes goes pro after this season like he said he proabably would in the off season.(Holmes probably will be going pro out of financial need as though he's only 21 he already has two children ages 3 and 1) That means Tony would be the first full time starting white WR for Ohio St since I don't know.

There really are no hispanics in football, only black or white.

wow what a catch by Gonzalez against Michigan to set up the game winning run. He got so high up for that catch it was rediculous. Of course following the game QB Troy Smith did a good job pointing out how good Gonzalez is and said "many people don't realize how fast Tony is". Ummm must be beacuse of his light skin color. Well good job Tony shopwing off your athletic ability on that catch and if Holmes leaves for the draft to help support his 2 children Gonzalez will have some sick stats next year.

Everyone in B-Dubs jumped through the roof when Gonzo made that catch. I hope he explodes next year. Pretty soon the whole Buckeyes team is going to be nothing but Ignatius, Eds and Glenville boys.Edited by: JoeV

Oh yeah JoeV as John Kerr will be starting next year and I really think he'll be a good player at OLB. Cleveland football and Northeast OH as a whole is the best high school football in the state.

With WR Santoinio Holmes leaving early to the draft this means that WR Anthony Gonzalez will be starting next year. I think he'll be Ohio St's first starting white WR since Doug Donley in the early 80s. Anthony is not Mexican as his mom is white and so is his dad who I think is from Spain.

That's good to hear, though most fans willwrongly assume he's hispanic. Don't forget about Brian Stablein, who started at WR for Ohio State in the early '90s and went on to a pure Caste role in the NFL.

OSU had their Pro Day on March 9th and with every Pro Day the OSU coaching staff lets a few select juniors run the 40 in front of all the NFL coaches and scouts to let them acquainted with the whole 40 yard dash hoopla. Well Tony Gonzalez ran in front of everyone and he stole the show. Tony reportedly ran a 4.3 flat 40 on a lot of watches. Gonzalez finally showed everybody what I've been saying all along that Tony is a bonafide top NFL prospect and will have a great year now that he is starting thanks to the departure on Santonio Holmes.

So is Gonzalez all white? This question has bugged me for some time. I would like to know for sure...He could be in the Jeff Garcia spainard mold which is what I think someone was saying a few posts above.

Garcia is predominately Irish I think he had a Mexican great-grandfather or even further back. But he does take ethnic pride in his Mexican ancestry. What i want to know is does he take pride in his sexuality..........

Gonzalez is the football version of Jerry Garcia in that his mom is white and his dad is Spanish. So that does in fact make him white as he is European afterall.

Actually I have seen Garcia's dad and he in no way looks Mexican looking(or the stereotype). His father's Mexican ancestry is way back. Infact California has alot of white people with Spanish surnames that have blonde hair and blue eyes, because of one of their ancestors intergrated and anglicized himself his descendants eventually became anglos with spanish surnames........

Tony had 4 catches for 54 yards and a TD. Troy Smith and Tony really look to have some good chemistry startin to go on. Let's all hope Tony has a monster game on national televison Saturday night that could put his name up there with Samardjiza and Blythe as one of the top WRs in the nation.

Well looks like Kirk Herbstreit was right about picking Gonzalez to be the breakout player for the Texas-Ohio St game. Tony had a career highs in catches 8 and yards 142 while also adding a TD. He was obviously the player of the game. Tony had a numerous tough catches and showed off his great skills to the country. Good job Tony!

Too bad the media only shows and talks about the uber athletes Ted Ginn and Troy Smith. If Ginn would have led their team in yds and catches the video crew for ESPN would have been busy wiping the "male juice" off of the teleprompters from Lee Corso and the other tools. I swear, the bias and liberal wusses of the day can't control themselves and think rationally. Whatever happened to the white race in this country having pride in their own strong white men. Our forefathers would be ashamed of the state that our nation is in.

Yeah the media makes it out to be that Ginn is the only great WR on the team and yet here you got a white guy who's just as fast if not faster and leads the team in TDs, catches, and yards. You know all the important stats that actually matter and yet he gets no attention or publicity while outproducing his counterpart, Ginn, that gets all the praise and hype possible. You just gotta hate the backwards media.

it was Brian Hartline, a redshirt freshman with amazing speed and talent. there's a good piece on him in the white wide receivers thread if you wanna click on it.
