this year, again, white wideouts are arguably the two best at their position in the entire country. Notre Dame's Jeff Samardzija and Iowa State's Todd Blythe are phenomenal!
smiley32.gif
they have a number of things in common: they're both white, 6'5", multi-sport athletes (Jeff plays baseball, Todd played basketball), who are big-play threats but somehow aren't considered very fast. check 'em out:

there are more white receivers out there, and we'll be posting them shortly...

Eastern Michigan wide receiver Eric Deslauriers is another in the line of tall, rangy, white wideouts who continuously make plays but are considered too slow. here's Eric's player bio: link

Eric blew up in 2004 when he had 84 receptions for 1,257 yards and 13 touchdowns. last year wasn't as good for him as he suffered through poor quarterback play; he still caught 75 passes for 874 yards and eight touchdowns, which again placed him among the elite receivers in the nation. the Sporting News has tabbed him preseason first-team all-Mid American Conference.

white receivers aren't all 6'5" "plodders." there are plenty of burners out there, as well. the University of Utah expects two white speedsters to start at wideout this fall. Derrek Richards is regarded as the second fastest Ute and the fastest wide receiver. he runs a 4.4 40 and had the best time on the team in spring agility drills. here's Derrek's bio: link

teammate Brian Hernandez, also a speedster, is an all-conference candidate who led the Utes last year in yards per catch (18.2 per) and *gasp* is known as a big run-after-the-catch threat. here's Brian's bio: link

Texas A&M's Chad Schroeder is as big-play as they come. considered the fastest player on the Aggies' roster, Chad scored touchdowns on his first five touches last year. vastly under-used, the speed demon should blow up this season as the number one option in the passing game. here's Chad's bio: link

University of Ohio wide receiver/kick returner Scott Mayle is one of the fastest, and most versatile, football players in the country. here's Scott's player bio: link

Scott has made 25 plays of at least 20 yards in his career (rushing and receiving) and recorded at least one rush, one catch, and one kickoff return in seven of the Bobcat's 11 games last year. additionally, he is the first Bobcat track and field athlete since 1998 to reach the final round of an NCAA Championship event when he did so this spring in the long jump.

Scott, who competes in the sprints and jumps for the Ohio track team, currently holds the school's indoor 60-meter record with a time of 6.83 (2003), the outdoor 100-meter record with a time of 10.41 (2005), and has the second and third-best long jump marks in school history at 26-0 (2005) and 25-10 (2003).

Scott, who consistently runs sub 4.4 40 times (and has reportedly been clocked as fast as 4.2) was the lone receiving threat last season for the Bobcats who had serious quarterback problems but still managed to gain 338 yards and 3 TDs on 21 catches. he also led the MAC with a 27.2 yard kick return average.

Ohio State wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez is another big play threat with deep speed who we have discussed a great deal. here's his bio: link and a pic:

but as Colonel Reb has reported, the Buckeyes have another white speedster in the wings. Brian Hartline was an incredible track and field athlete in Ohio (winning the state title in the 110 and 300 hurdles as a senior) as well as being a highly sought after football recruit. here's Brian's bio: link and a couple of pics:

Texas Longhorn Jordan Shipley may be the next big thing at wide receiver, if he can stay healthy. as highly touted as they make 'em, Jordan is Texas' all-time leading receiver at the high school level and has the total package: 4.4 speed, hands, open-field running ability, football IQ, and size. he has looked amazing in his two preseasons with the 'Horns, but he can't stay put together. here's his player bio: link good luck to Jordan and stay tuned...

a nice find by KG2422, Iowa has a speedy, big wide receiver poised to make some noise. 6'3" Andy Brodell starts the season as a back-up, but with his blazing speed (10.4 in the 100 meters, 21.4 in the 200) it's just a matter of time before he makes himself known. here's his player bio: link and a pic:

Sorry, Jimmy but that was me who posted about Hartline(I started the OSU thread). Hartline is in a battle with Soph. WR Brian Robiskie(son of Cleveland Browns WR coach and former Raider RB Terry Robiske) for the #4 WR spot. Good job on the WR page though.

just stumbled across this wide receiver for the Washington Huskies. Cody Ellis is a 6'1", 185-pound junior with blazing speed. he actually was a corner in his first two seasons on the Washington campus, but he has sinced been moved to offense where he led the team in yards per catch last year. his problem, of course, is that he doesn't get enough playing time (he only had 8 receptions a season ago) and is just second string now. here's his bio: link

Stanford's Evan Moore looked like he was going to set the world on fire after a breakout sophomore season in '04, but since then the 6'7", 235-pound two-sport athlete (he played hoops for the Cardinal until deciding to focus on football) has been plagued with a hip injury that caused him to miss nearly the enitre season last year. here's his player bio: link

Evan is another of the tall, rangy, "deceptively fast" white receivers around the country. when healthy, he's one of the country's most dangerous receivers, posing incredible match-up problems for opposing secondaries: he's tall, big, has hoop hops, and is plenty fast enough to be a major deep threat. but like Matt Jones before him, he is often projected as a tight end at the next level. regardless of where he eventually lines up, Evan could be a premier wideout this season if he's back 100%.

Texas Tech usually has one or two white guys who make plays for them. i've not heard of the Walker brothers, but Danny Amendola is one of the better punt returners in the country. here's his player bio: link

Kentucky sophomore Dicky Lyons, Jr. has the pedigree and the talent to be a phenomenal player. his dad was one of the best players ever in the SEC, and Dicky is as fast and gifted as they come. here's his player bio: link

he's poised to start this season, and the Wildcats need all the help they can get at wideout. look for this youngster to make some noise this season if he can stay healthy and the Wildcats can find a quarterback.

if any white receiver has the talent to knock Jeff and Todd off of the first team all-America lists, it is Kansas State's Jordy Nelson. this cat has everything...except a quarterback that can get him the ball.

the junior is KSU's best offensive player, arguably the team's fastest player, has tremendous size (6'2", 213 pounds), and was the Wildcats leading receiver last year (45 catches, 669 yds, 14.9 ypc, 8 TD)...and he did all that after switching over from defensive back just before the season started. here's his bio: link. we had a short thread on him last season here but he should be even more dangerous this year if KSU can find a quarterback.

two young wideouts that several of us are familiar with look to make an impact on the college level after dominating Texas high school for the last few years. both guys run 4.4 40's and look to earn playing time on the grid iron as true freshmen.

BYU's McKay Jacobson looked incredible in spring drills after enrolling early. he has sprinter's speed and tremendous run-after-the-catch ability, and could help BYU immediately at both wide receiver and on returns. here's his bio: link

Southlake Carroll teammate, two-sport star, and Texas Christian signee Clint Renfro could also earn a spot on the field this fall despite being very skinny (160 pounds). but his speed, which he'll showcase for the TCU track team as well, may allow the Texas Star-Telegram's Track Athlete of the Year to skip his red-shirt.

so get used to seeing this happen a lot in the coming years...

here's my last update for the day...
smiley1.gif

we've talked about Northwestern expecting to start three white db's, but they have a talented young receiver as well. sophomore Ross Lane is a tall target at 6'3" with good speed who blew up in the Sun Bowl last year with seven catches for 136 yards. here's his bio: link.

here's the really messed up thing though... Ross is expected to back-up fellow sophomore, but blacker, rasheed ward. to quote Foxsports on rasheed: Ward has the potential to be the team's breakout receiver on the outside X position. He's not as fast or as big as Lane, but he's a tremendous athlete who looked good early last year and was strong enough this spring to take over the starting job. (emphasis added by me)

the same guy says this about Ross: Lane had a breakout game in the Sun Bowl catching seven passes for 136 yards giving hope that he'll be a reliable number two target to take the heat off Shaun Herbert. He's a good deep threat with 6-3 size to pose matchup problems on the outside at the X position.

rasheed had 7 catches, 99 yds, 14.1 ypc, 1 TD last year, while Ross had 24 catches, 378 yds, 15.8 ypc, 1 TD.

so help me figure out why the darker guy gets the starting nod. he's slower, smaller, less of a playmaker, and a less difficult match-up... WTF?!?

what does a white man have to do to get on the field? aaarrgghhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

Continued excellent work, JC! In regard to Ross Lane, you wonder if these Caste System hacks even bother to look at what they write to see the obvious contradictions in it. More likely they only care about earning a paycheck and they also know that no one ever calls them onthe double standards and anti-white racism and stereotyping built intoso muchfootball reporting.

another great thread, guys! thanks for all the info, i was always more into the NFL to be honest but those guys might be the future and a reason for NFL to be more fair towards white players... some of them just can't be ignored!

Northwestern will be a team to watch for sure...its a shame Randy Walker who assembled all this talent passed away. He seemed to have the right idea about football players and did not really follow the caste. Hopefully his young sucessor will continue in the ways of Walker...I heard the new coach was actually a top recruiter so this might bode well for us if he is responsible for not judging based just on color.

Add Johnny Quinn to the list of white WR's to watch out for in 2006. Here are a few highlights of his career -- most people haven't heard of him because North Texas plays in the Sun Belt Conference & (well, 'nuff said!). But I still have school spirit!

2006: Awards candidate who should break every North Texas career receiving record ... Ranks second among all Div. I-A players, having caught a pass in 36 straight games, which is every game he has played in at North Texas ... Ranks in the top 10 in North Texas career records for receptions (130), receiving yards (2,085) and receiving touchdowns (17).

2005: Led the team in receiving for the third straight year. Also a starter on nearly every special teams unit and finished third in the conference with an average of 19.7 yards per kick return ... Averaged 170.2 all-purpose yards over the last five games of the season, including the finale where he amassed 264 all-purpose yards.

2004: Named to the Sun Belt All-Conference First Team for punt returning and second team as a reciever.

Anyway, you get the idea. His stats would be even better but UNT is a smash-mouth, run-first team & only throws the ball 10-15 times a game on average.

nice call, texasheat! i can't believe i've forgotten to mention Johnny! i talked about him in a couple of threads last year, and here's a quote from a scouting report i did on him in early October:

as for Quinn, he is the only threat in North Texas' passing game. TREMENDOUS hands. catches everything that's thrown his way, and he has a knack for making the big play when the game is on the line. he muffed a punt (very unusual for him) in the first half, which set up troy's first touchdown, but he more than made up for it with a couple of very nice kick returns and a couple of dazzling catches. also an outstanding downfield blocker. it was his block downfield that allowed UNT's QB to score on a 20-yard td run. looks bigger and stronger than he's listed. a very physical receiver. fast enough, with good wiggle and YAC ability. he's not afraid to extend to make catches over the middle. definitely doesn't have alligator arms. rightly regarded as the best wideout in the Sun Belt conference.

his QB is a frosh, and the o-line is very inexperienced, so Quinn and UNT's 2 talented tailbacks have all seen their numbers drop this season.

so, i've noticed your guy, and he is VERY good. this year, he has been named to the Sun Belt's pre-season first-team as a wide receiver and second-team as a kick returner. here's his bio: link

i know the list of dominant white receivers is getting long, but there are plenty of guys out there for us to cheer for.
smiley32.gif
here's another one...

SMU's Bobby Chase leaves a lot of db's doing just that, as he has been SMU's best offensive player for the last two years. another in the line of tall, rangy, "deceptively fast" white receivers around the country, Bobby (6'4", 205-pounds, and runs a 4.5 40) is an incredibly exciting player to watch, although few folks get a chance to watch him on TV him because he plays for SMU. here's his player bio: link
and here's a link for when he made Sportscenter's top 10 plays at number 2... the quality is not very good, but it's a great play: you tube and his game-winning catch versus UAB... listen to the audio on this one, it's awesome! you tube 2

Wake Forest's Nate Morton has been their best receiver for the past two years. while the fact that Wake loves to pound the ball on the ground keeps Nate from putting up big numbers, he is tall (6'3", 215 pounds), gets open, catches everything thrown his way, and is faster than given credit for. he's currently recovering from a broken bone in his hand, but he should be ready to play in the fall. he can also play quarterback, and has taken advantage of that in several trick plays. here's his bio: link
