Patriots' Welker brushes off wallop by Clark as 'football play'

FOXBORO â€â€￾ Wes Welker didn't return to the New England Patriots' game against Pittsburgh after absorbing a vicious hit from safety Ryan Clark, but he was back on the field yesterday with his teammates as they began preparations from Sunday's game in Seattle.

Prior to practice, Welker talked about the hit and Clark, who had tried to reach out and apologize to the receiver after the game.

"It was a football play. The ball got tipped and you know, he came in and made a good play," Welker said of the over-the-middle pass from Matt Cassel that the Steelers' Troy Polamalu got a hand on. "Like any other hit, you just take it in stride and make sure you're getting ready for the next opportunity you have to get back out there."

Clark received a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty on the play, though NFL head of officiating Mike Pereira told the Boston Herald this week that Clark would not be fined.

There has been much debate among fans and pundits about whether Clark's hit was dirty â€â€￾ Welker never saw him coming as he lowered his shoulder and launched himself into the wideout â€â€￾ but Welker seems to harbor no ill will.

"I don't really expect him to [apologize]. It's a football play; it is what it is," Welker said. "No sense in crying or whining about it. You just have to keep on moving on and get ready for the next week."

I hope Wes is back 100% and has a 120+ yard game. I'd really like to see him hit 1,000!

I hate how many hits he takes. I hope he realizes how many white people look up to him and tries to avoid big hits more often by going out of bounds more, after getting the first down. Some might think thats wussy, but i dont wanna see him get injured.

Wes is very good at avoiding unnecessary hits. He just got blindsided by that one.

As was already posted in the NFL forum by Thrashen; Wes Welker went over 1,000 yards today. He currently has 1,002 yards on 96 catches with 3 games left to play.

Some compliments for Wes courtesy of SI's Peter King:

- I don't know how Wes Welker did what he did in Seattle. I mean this in a very positive way: In a business with a lot of interesting physical specimens, Welker is a freak of nature. Welker took the hit of a career last week against Pittsburgh across the middle, getting blown up by safety Ryan Clark on a vicious, but clean, hit. I wondered all week how Welker would respond. Would he miss any time? Call in sick? Beg his mother not to make him ever go out there again?

So he went to Seattle, caught 12 balls for 134 yards, added a two-point conversion catch on the decisive touchdown, and helped the Patriots come back to beat Seattle 24-21. Playing without Tom Brady, Welker has become Matt Cassel's ultimate security blanket and threatens to lead the NFL in receptions for the second-straight year. With 96 catches, he's four ahead of Houston's Andre Johnson with three games to play. A couple of weeks ago, I was talking with Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, who coached Welker in college. "He's indestructible,'' Leach said. Couldn't have said it better. I hope the Patriots realize Welker's incredible value.

"Indestructibility" like Welker's should be common in the NFL, but obviously, due to it's horrid racial profiling tactics, the league is full of undeserving wimps.

Welker will probably play another 7-8 years in the NFL due to his never-say-die attitude. I watched him play many games in college and instantly thought: "here is another white WR who'll certainly be screwed by the caste system." For the first couple years of his career, that's exactly what happened.

Since his college days, he looks better every season, every week, every game, every play. He's relentless. I equate him to an offensive version of Pat Tillman.

Perfect comparison by Thrashen

Welker's capacity to IMPROVE with reps is one of the keys to shattering the mythology that white players are incapable of manning certain positions on the gridiron.

Certain athletes "wear" well-- they become more dangerous as games progress and experience accrues. To be clear, Welker is an acquired taste-- the more frequently you watch him play, the more impressed you are by his impact on the game. Should Welker's consistent improvement and insistent impact become the standard metric by which NFL receivers are measured -- or even ONE of the standard metrics-- the number of white WRs could improve substantially.

A few more seasons like this and we've got a caste breaker.

I honestly wish that but weren't all of us saying that back when Steve Largent was playing and breaking every record in the book. It takes NUMBERS to break the caste system line of thinking.

Maybe some people with brains will wake up. The 4 starting DEs in the Pro-bowl last year where white, yet whites are less than 25% of DEs. Chris Long was taken 2nd overall last draft, yet the next white DE wasn't taken until the 6th round I believe (Brian Johnston?). Wes Welker, Matt Jones, Kevin Curtis, Kevin Walter and Jordy Nelson could all make the Pro Bowl if they "ALL" had good QBs "who looked there way more". However, the DWFs wouldn't ask why there are so few other WRs. As long as ESPN and serpents like Tom Luginbill control how players are ranked it just may not change. Stupid DWFs just don't see through Rivals.com and the evil Tom Luginbill's agenda. I am proud to call their utter dishonesty what it is EVIL!Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

Welker wasn't voted to the Pro-bowl by the drunken white fans and you know the black voters didn't support him either. Brandon Marshall, followed by Randy Moss were the top vote receivers. Andre Johnson, Hines Ward and Braylon Edwards also made it. Wes Welker is definitely more deserving than Mr. Drop Edwards this year or Hines Ward and Randy Moss too...Pathetic!

Braylon Edwards made the Pro-Bowl this season?!? Jeez, there seem to be absolutely no standards other than...

1) black
2) name recognition

This will be Welker's second season being snubbed a pro-bowl spot. BTW, perpetual candy ass, Randy Moss, is only statistically leading Welker in TDs....that's it! Whatever, it becomes more and more a joke-game every season.Edited by: Thrashen

The Pro-Bowl is a joke. I hope Wesstays at the top with themost catches in the league, relegating Hype Johnson to also-ran status in that category. Hopefully he'll get a few TDs in these last few weeks of the season too. It just doesn't look right him having just 1 TD and over 1,000 yard receiving.

Do you have the link for this? I don't think this season's Pro Bowl teams have been announced yet.

Another crackdown on a white player for showing a little personality. Welker's "snow angel" celebration was actually quite tasteful and funny, considering it was a snowstorm.

New England WR Welker fined

Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker was fined $10,000 Wednesday by the NFL for making a "snow angel" in the end zone.

Welker was docked pay for his excessive celebration during the second quarter of Sunday's 47-7 win over Arizona.

"It was a spur of the moment deal, and you can be sure that it won't happen again," Welker told the Boston Globe.

Jets DE Shaun Ellis gets a $10,000 fine as well for throwing snowballs(probably ice by that time) into the crowd.

So we get the same fine for a snow angel vs throwing chunks of ice into the stands risking injury and lawsuits...

And now of course whenever the topic is excessive celebrating by NFL players, the media will have their obligatory white player to include in film clips along with the likes of Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson. The classy Wes Welker will be the Caste clowns' equivalent of Bill Romanowski, Mark Chmura and Ryan Leaf.

Yeah, this exact thing happened the instant after Jared Allen got a DUI. He was used as an example next to the likes of actual thugs like Chris Henry or Pacman Jones. ESPN ran the Jared Allen DUI for days, suggesting he was a criminal of the same magnitude as the hundreds of black thug-girlies who are arrested each season.

The current print issue of The Sporting News has an article in which 14 college football coaches are asked to name "the best high school player I ever saw."

Not surprisingly, only 3of the 13 players picked are white. They are Drew Bledsoe (picked by Mike Price of UTEP), Bill Fralic (picked by both Mike Sherman of Texas A&M and Bill Stewart of WVU), and Wes Welker (by Mike Leach of Texas Tech).

Of the 13 players, all were heavily recruited, except one. Wes Welker, the greatest high school football player Mike Leach ever saw ("He could do so many things," says Leach. "He could play offense, he could play defense, and I saw him kick a 52-yard field goal to win a game") still had to walk-on at Texas Tech. Even if you're one of the best high school players ever, if you're white and you play WR, RB or most defensive positions, you still will not get a scholarship offer from a major program.

After looking at the Toby Gerhart forum, and the caste-breaking potential that he has, it's worth a hat tip to the job that Wes Welker has done to create interest in the "white slot receiver" in the NFL. Being a copy-cat league (a CORE value that caste footballers need to remember), there are more and more teams looking for their very own Wes Welker, and, of course, a "Wes Welker" has to be WHITE, since that's how the genius recruiting folks compare everything. So I hope that the trend continues, and that we finally get a STAR at number 2 receiver, so that the league geniuses need to find a white copy of that, then a white corner to copy and multiple white backs to copy........
