How bad can back up QB Logan Smothers be??

Wildly inconsistent Martinez over threw 6'-4" WR Wyatt Leiwer on a TD ....then over threw Tallest TE 6 ' - 9" ! And over throws a wide open WR for at least 30-40 yards!
Now he FUMBLES....Illinois Defense scoops it up for long TD!

Epstein 13 carries for 71 yards & TD = 1st half

Scott Frost loves Adrian Martinez. Not sure how much eligibility he has left, but he might get Frost fired. Brett Bielema is huge, looking like Mark Mangino.

Sad to see Nebraska struggling behind Martinez. I think Coach Frost must want him to marry his daughter. It doesn't make much sense. If only
they would have keep McCaffrey. Still a team I love to watch.

Mike Epstein looks to be healthy, fast, elusive and shifty. The guy could be a good backup rb at the next level. He will have to prove he can stay healthy. That
is really the only knock on the kid. If you can't make it through a college season it will scare most nfl scouts away along with his lack of a tan.

Martinez is 6-15 for 112 yards, no scores, and has eaten three sacks. He is remarkably bad. Nebraska's white receivers are going to need someone else to throw them the ball. Frost might not make it through the season otherwise.

The only receiver Martinez has been any good to is Oliver Martin. He has 4 catches for 90 yards but could have alot more if he had a good qb to throw the ball to him. Yes
this reminds me of last year already. Martinez just can do no wrong in Frosts eyes as even when he benches him, the next game he is back at starting qb. Very strange for
a coach that is on the hot seat. Martinez could get you fired yet you continue to play him. Later 4th quarter and no td throws for Martinez.

Artur Sitkowski is better than Adrian Martinez.

Oliver Martin goes over 100 yards at least.

So Epstein dominated the 1st half. Then 2nd half almost nothing. I thought he must have been injured but had a late carry. Of course, the offense sputtered late when they went away from him. These head coaches are almost all cucks. Can’t have a White (or at least White presenting) athlete rushing for 150 yards on nation television. (((Shut it down))).

So true Freethinker. I was thinking the same thing. Epstein had 13 carries in the first half and 3 in the 2nd half. They were lucky Nebraska didn't come back and win
this game. When you have a good lead you run the ball to use that clock. The rule doesn't apply if they are trying to hold whitey down.

Frost going to live n die by his pet QB in Martinez.

It's wild that he has this blind faith in Martinez. The track record is their with him, he isn't the QB that will bring Nebraska back to national prominence.

Yup one more year of Martinez will likely do Frost in. Good win for Bielema though.

I actually found myself rooting for Illinois throughout the game. White QBs plus Epstein and Hansen made them fun. Nebraska deserves to lose every game if they keep forcing that terrible quota out there. Maybe he can run around but he sure can’t pass. Plus most of his damage came when the Illini went to the “prevent defense” with a huge lead.

It's a tale as old as time LOL. Frost needs to re-assess the QB position ASAP. Martinez has been one of the most overrated QBs in college football - initially viewed as Frost's pick to turn the Cornhuskers around and then anointed as a dark horse heisman candidate the following season. His trajectory has been downhill since then. He's just simply not a good QB and considering Frost's only success at UCF came with McKenzie Milton at the helm - a talented passing QB with the ability to run when needed Frost should really consider putting Smothers in for the rest of the season.

We can debate over outcomes regarding Neb/Ill, but the best stat line was Oliver Martin's 6-109 and a score. He was a four-star stud and has bounced around. I'm not sure I believe my lying eyes as he established himself as the go-to deep threat. Yeah, sucks that Nebraska needs a QB, but hey that is good fodder.

Yes indeed Phall! It was Make or Break for WR Oliver Martin! Nice stat line ....announcer said he's the "fastest player on the team"....

Normally i'd agree WL...We have seen that script all too often.

But this time... i truly believe Mike Epstein is physically not ready yet for 26 carries in a game yet .....3 bad injuries (2 knee & foot) ....was a bit surprised he got that many carries so early 13 1st half yesterday...several times you could see him running off the field wanting a breather on sidelines. So that's why they took it easy on him 2nd half ....need to have him fresh for the 12 game grind. Some publications didn't even have Epstein on Depth Charts bec i believe he sat out Spring ball.

Epstein has never carried the ball more than 69 times in an entire season due to his injuries.....
It is why i compare him to Jake Funk who was buried on Depth Chart early in his career @ Maryland behind some quality RB's that went to NFL. Funk shined in much more limited opportunities. Then he too got hurt. Not on Depth Chart's last season...wondering if he was done ; call it career ...BUT as we know he got healthy % exploded in a limited COVID season.
