Last night I am watching "The Blitz" on ESPN News channel. It is an recap/analysis show of the day's NFL games. They are showing the highlights of the Jacksonville game and it was play after play of Matt Jones. Sean Salisbury is giving glowing reviews of Jones' plays. He even says "I have been hyping this kid every since the Jaguars took him in the first round." I am thinking, "Really, hyping to who". Then they show the play where Matt burns Deion Sanders on a long pass play and steps out of bounds at the 1 yd line. Salisbury says "Matt Jones is the only guy on the field faster than Deion." What? Is this ESPN analyst saying that Matt Jones is faster than Deion "the fastest man in the NFL" Sanders. I couldn't believe my ears.

Damn Matt Jones doesn't even catch the ball when I start him two weeks ago, then he goes off for a touchdown and 100 yds this past week. Now Drew Bennett will come back this week, so I won't know who to start in fantasy ball. Someone needs to get the word to these white WRs to be consistant on a regular basis, so I can get some fantasy points out of them! Good game nonetheless though.

I'll be starting Drew this week, no doubt! I have been waiting for him to come back.

I thought I remembered hearing or reading that Salisbury was quoted as saying that Matt Jones was "too tall" to ever make it as a wide receiver in the NFL. I hit Google and also searched through Caste Football but couldn't come up with a link. Anyone else remember this? Or if it was someone besides Salisbury who may have said it?

As for Salisbury's true feelings, well we may never know but he did praise Jones and the Jags selection of him in the draft. He said that Jones was a steal with the 21st pick, and was resoundingly mocked and teased about it by the other sportscasters and pundits.

On another note, I will be resoundingly mocked and teased myself if I find that it was one of my posts with the aforementioned quote.

Never mind.</font> It was Babe Laufenberg who said that Jones was too tall to play WR, and Jimmy Chitwood who first posted that comment from Laufenberg. Edited by: White Shogun

Yeah, I remember him complimenting Jones during the draft.

You are right about that Rednose.Matt Jones will help pave the way for the college kids that usually get screwed. The NFL is watching what is happening with both him and Drew Bennett. You will also see more qb's being turned into wide receivers like these guys.I can't wait to see some of the young guys play on Sundays next season.Keep on kicking butt Matt!

Matt Jones should not be a shock to anyone. He got hyped
like crazy coming into the draft. He was picked #21 as a WO when he did'nt
even play the postion in college. ESPN went crazy over him.

The other day I saw Sean Salisbury say that Matt Jones is going to be a perenial pro-bowler, luckily I had read this thread a few days earlier so I didn't fall out of my chair!

There certainly seems to be a bangwagon forming and the only thing I fear are dumb fans not voting for him on that Pro-bowl stuff (I think you vote online, but that it is only a fraction of the total decision making process and that like coaches and stuff get to have some input, oh well alot of players don't even bother going to the Pro-bowl anymore.)

Interesting to count how many times this year both leftwich/Garrard
have overlooked Matt Jones when he either had DB's blown away or was
not even covered, and threw to somebody else.
