I thought I heard his name called yesterday on special teams,Schweigertwas signed about a week ago. You would think with the Lions lousy defensive play and horrible tackling he would get more PT but defensive "genius" Marinelli is probably looking for some more Tampa castoffs to sign.

The fact that Stuart was out of the NFL for 12 weeks is hilariously idiotic....even in the NFL. He was a quality starter for the Raiders and high draft pick out of Purdue. Schweigert has serious speed, hopefully he can win a starting job in Detroit (shouldnt be too hard on an 0-16 team) next season.

I saw the Detroit game against the Titans and the Lions must have the worst defense in the history of the NFL. They can't tackle, they let blockers move them around like ornaments and one defensive back (no.26) is so slow he looked like he was running in sand. Schweigert must surely get a chance.

Stu looked good in Lions' first preseason game. He had a play behind the line that eventually led to the series setting up Jason Hansen's game-winning fg vs. Falcons. Stu played close up in the 4-6, and has already proven in his career he has the speed to cover, so he'll play a lot. When he first got the job, new Lions GM Martin Mayhew said Schweigert was a cornerstone of this year's team.

To us Michiganders, Stu is the kid who beat Charles Rogers in the 100 meter state finals in 1999. They are both from Saginaw so had raced each other for years.

At the 2000 state finals, Rogers was second and Schweigert third, another football star, Kelly Baraka, won it. He smoked too much weed even for U-M though.

i saw a big part of this game, and Stu looked very, VERY fast. of course, this isn't a surprise to those of us who know who he is.

if not for the bizarre decision making of caste disciples, he'd be a household name to NFL fans by now. he's a tremendous player.

Lions placed Daniel Bullocks on IR, so this should help Schweigert at least make the team.

No, not "at least make the team." I'm shocked, another defeatist, depressing poster on this site. Didn't you read what I wrote? Schweigert is one of the main pieces of the Lions' defense.

Great Lake State,
Its not that I'm defeatist (you'll note that many of my posts are positive, such as starting the "survivors of ethnic cleansing" post in last years recap of post-training camp cuts,my recent CFL post about Dressler and Cahoon, or my posts about white college wide receiver walk ons), but we've all seen so many white DB's get the shaft by the NFL that I get a little, shall we say, cautious, in hoping for the success of any white DB. Anyway, good luck to Schweigert, Stafford, Standeford and now Looker.Edited by: referendum

Lions cut productive and experienced Stuart Schweigert.

Let's see if I can get this straight: in all of the NFL, Stu is not better then some mildly retarded afflete Safety? The anonymous loud mouths who get flagged and beat all the time?

If he doesn't get picked up by week 3, I'd be surprised.
What's the procedure in signing someone after the season begins to replace players injured?
