Sam plays football for the local high school where I live. He is having a great Junior year so far leading the Houston area in rushing averaging over 200 yds per game. He was timed at 4.33 sec in the 40 yd dash at one of the recruiting camps this summer. He is also one of the top long jumpers in the state. He is getting recruited by all of the local Division 1 schools. Good luck to him in the future.

Being recruited as what is the question. All the Div. 1 teams would love to have him as a LB,FB or maybe SS/FS.

This kid is a stud.He looks like the next Tre Smith but hopefully he will get to play in college. The biggest key will be where he decides to go to school.I hope he does his homework and picks a school like Colorado State that will not put him into a different position.Keep us posted on him SteveB.

After 4 games Sam still leads the Houston area in rushing at 191.5 yds per game. He has 78 rushes for 766 yds (9.8 ypc avg) and 9 TDs. His team, the Cy-Fair Bobcats, are dominating everyone with an average winning margin of 39-5 in their first four games. It's fun watching an all white team beatup on the local black teams with their "superior athletes".

Here's an article in the Houston Chronicle about Sam. (Note: The picture in the article is NOT of Sam running the ball.)

McGuffie gives Cy-Fair get-up-and-go
Running back follows good year with a great one in the making

By WILLIAM HATFIELD
For The Chronicle

Heading into the 2006 season, the Cy-Fair Bobcats were hoping tailback Sam McGuffie would not suffer a post-sophomore slump.

So far, he hasn't disappointed.

A year after bursting onto the scene with an impressive performance in the Bobcats' run to the Division I Region III final, McGuffie is third in Class 5A area rushing with 592 yards on 62 carries and an average of 9.5 yards each time he takes a handoff. (Cy-Fair had an open date last week, so he dropped out of the top spot.)

His stellar play is one of the primary reasons Cy-Fair heads into District 17-5A play with a 3-0 record and hopes of defending last season's district title, the Bobcats' first since 1999.

"Sam's motor runs pretty high all the time," Cy-Fair coach Ed Pustejovsky said. "His work ethic is such that he wants the ball in his hands and he shows it. He needs to be a focal point of our offense."

McGuffie created a lot of buzz during his impressive sophomore season. He didn't see much playing time until an injury to starting tailback Philip Goldsmith gave him an opportunity.

McGuffie rushed for 544 yards and six touchdowns in the regular season before nearly matching those totals in three postseason games.

McGuffie made his biggest impact of the season on a special-teams play against Cypress Creek.

After his team fell behind 17-14 with under a minute to play and facing a second district loss, McGuffie took a kickoff and bolted 90 yards for the game-winning score.

"I hadn't seen much playing time the whole season, and I thought if I couldn't do much as a running back, I'd do anything else I could," McGuffie said. "If we don't win that game, we probably don't make the playoffs."

Pustejovsky called the return "the turning point of the season."

"Sam gained a lot of confidence on that play, and it was really big for us as a team and a big splash for him," he said. "He was a real good player by the end of the season."

Cy-Fair went 10-3 and made its deepest playoff run since 1987.

McGuffie also had success on the track as a sophomore. He won the regional long jump title with a 23-9 effort on his last attempt to become the youngest participant in that event at the state meet.

With only two starters back on offense and defense, Pustejovsky said he knew McGuffie's improvement would be critical for the Bobcats.

"He has good quickness and explosion, and his vision on the field has improved, which is something you really can't coach," Pustejovsky said. "He just has it."

He also has more pounds on his frame this year. While he gains most of his yards by being elusive, McGuffie is quick to point out that he's not just a speed demon.

"People think I'm small, but I'm really not," McGuffie said with a laugh. "I'm 5-10 and 180 pounds and definitely a little faster and stronger this season."

After 8 games, McGuffie still leads the Houston area in rushing with 1642 yds (205 ypg) and 20 TDs with a 8.6 ypc. He is getting a lot of interest from Texas Tech, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Florida, Michigan, USC. Very little interest so far from A&M and Texas. WTF??Edited by: SteveB

Hopefully ND recruits him hard...Weis has seemed to recruit some good white players for next year. Imagine this kid in the backfield with Jimmy Clausen at QB. Urban Meyer also seems to be pretty fair to white players. He has Tebow and has spoken highly of Weddle. I dont want him even considering Michigan, Texas or GT though. Anyone have his height/weight stats?

I just hope the kid tells schools that he's a tailback and will NOT switch positions.

That is really good a junior about to rush for 2,000 yards. I don't even want to know how many yards he'll get as a senior. With stats like that there is no way a D1 school of any size can realistically, if recrutuing by stats and not race, pass this kid up. He needs to go to all the big camps this summer like the Nike camp, Texas A&M, and UT camps to name a few and just run a blazing 40 time.

I have heard through the grapevine that he wants to go to the camps and run in the 4.2 range. Rumor is that he has run a 4.26 sec 40, had a vertical jump of 41", and bench pressed 335 lbs in the offseason at Cy Fair. His coach is an Aggie alum and according to the folks that I have talked to, Sam really wants to go to A&M and really wants to play RB. A lot of schools have called his coach about playing WR or DB and basically the coach told them that Sam wasn't interested. Good for him!!!

I don't care it he goes to a big time program like A&M or a lesser program such as Baylor or Rice. I want the kid to play HB no questions asked.

McGuffie had a career game tonight and went past the 2,000 yd mark with one game left in the regular season. He had 270 yds on 12 carries and 5 TDs IN THE FIRST QUARTER. He finished the game with 376 yds on 28 carries (13.4 ypc) and 8 TDs. He did all of this against a team (Cypress Creek HS) that was ranked in the preseason in the top 10 in the Houston area. He is for real and will be fun to watch in college.Edited by: SteveB

I saw Sam play against Cypress Falls about two weeks ago and I can tell you that this kid can burn. His size is something of a drawback, however.

That was on hell of a Leonard leap Sam put on that defender. It was funny how the kid who got leaped over just turned around after the jump and had kind of a puzzled look on his face like "I can't believe that just happened".

It may save him from being moved to fullback.

Sam finished the regular season with 2303 yds (230 ypg) and 31 TDs to lead the Houston area in rushing (by 600 yds over 2nd place). It is the first time in recent history that a white RB has lead the Houston area in rushing. Good job Sam!!Edited by: SteveB
