I know Silva is a heavy favorite in this fight, but I'm picking Lutter to pull off an upset. I personally think if Lutter can get the fight to the ground he can submit Silva. My only two reservation's are 1-Lutter's conditioning for a 5 round fight, and 2-Lutter's takedown skill. On the pro side 1-I see Lutter as an intelligent person who should benefit from Franklin's loss and come in with a good game plan to counter Silva's muay thai skills. 2-Lutter also has a win over Pele Landi and Pele is a carbon copy of Silva both in build and style. Lastly is just purely because of racial loyalty. So next thursday I will either be resident expert or drooling dolt. Everyone's input is welcome (I think)

Good points, hopefully not wishful thinking. But you'll have to wait til Feb 3rd for the fight. Rashad fights next Thursday on UFC's Fight Night.

oops! OK well I'm looking forward to Salmon winning that bout. Fisher and Franca maybe fight of the night though.

I don't think Salmon has a chance against evens. salmon is not a high quality fighter. He is just a hand picked fighter because his record looks good against bad competition.I hope Sam hoger can beat Machida. I hated him ever since he beat Rich Franklin. The only fight I want to see is Cro-Cop Vs Sanches. My prediction is Cro-Cop in two.

I don't know anything about Sean Salmon. That is enough to tell me that they hand-picked him to lose because the UFC has Rashad Evans on the fast... well, slow, track to a title shot. I say slow because Rashad himself has already said he doesn't want a title shot 'uet.' Nice when a guy gets to pick and choose when he fights for a title. Dana has dumped guys for not wanting to fight before, period, let alone turning down a title fight. And people think the UFC is racist. Rashad is being babied all the way to the top.

But I'll be rooting for Salmon, hoping that he is another Jason MacDonald TUF-killer. Compare MacDonald's string of UFC fights to Evans'. Leben, Herman.. and now Rich Franklin?? wtf?? He has fought better caliber fighters in three fights than Evans has almost the entire time he has been in the UFC!! And I don't think much of Leben or Ed Herman, either, so that's saying something.

You think Salmon has no shot against Rashad but Sanchez will last two rounds against Cro Cop? Edited by: White Shogun

Even though Evans has a win over Bonnar, who I consider to be good, I think he stands the chance of getting beat by some underdog. Hopefully that underdog will be Salmon. It just sickens me to see Evans sister with her primitive features wrinkled and distorted, baring her huge ape-like teeth and screaming at his opponent. Reminds me of that white skank married to Chris Byrd and rates right up there with MTV.

Rashad Evans is 9-0. Five of those he won by decision, and three of the five were by a split or majority decision.

His best opponents so far have been Jason Lambert, Keith Jardine, and Stephan Bonnar. Piling those guys on top of wins over Sam Hoger and Brad Imes isn't saying much.

Jardine IMO wins a rematch. Forrest would beat him. Tito would beat him (in a contest of who can lie on top of who the longest without ref standup), and of course Chack would KO him.

Why don't they set up a fight between him and Babalu? Jeremy Horn? Tito? See where Rashad really ranks in the light heavyweight division.

WS, How about letting the two UFC poster boy ******** go at it, say "Rampage vs Rashad." Then the winner gets to fight Randy Couture

That's the fight I would like to see, too. I thought of that match up as well but figured there is no way the UFC will lose one of their top black fighters in a match against their other marquee black fighter. Rampage gets Eastman because Eastman is low risk and has no promotional capital to offer, unlike Rampage and now, after all the hype, Rashad Evans.

Either way, Couture owns both these guys.

Absolutely. He wants a title shot one year from now. Well, a year is three or four fights, right? Ortiz, Babalu, Griffin, and Jardine would all be very interesting. I'm a pessimist, so I think Evans may overpower Horn, but it would be interesting to see what would happen, if nothing else. And as for Liddell, well, unless Evans is better than Couture and Ortiz (highly doubtful,) it's a tailor-made fight for Liddell. Beating the snot out of strong wrestlers is his thing. At this point in time, someone is going to have to out-strike him to beat him. Silva and Jackson are possibilities; I can't think of anyone else anywhere near his league in the LHW division. Can you think of anyone else?

JD,
You mean Liddell's league, right?

There isn't anyone left in the UFC right now. Silva fights at 185, don't know if he'd want to gain weight to fight Chuck, and I don't think Chuck would drop to 185 at all. No incentive. Rampage is his weight but he hasn't been the same since Wanderlai Silva beat him into the arms of Jesus.

If Lutter can can successfully shoot on Silva, I'd say he'll finish via submission. However, there's no doubt Silva's training take-down defense & his BJJ hardcore in preperation for the fight. In the end, I'd like to see the ol' boy from Texas bring the strap back to the U.S of A! On that same note, I'm hoping Hughes brings the strap back too (whenever he & GSP have their rubber match).Edited by: DixieDestroyer

Dixie, My thoughts exactly. GSP is a great fighter and seems like a good guy but I have been a Hughes fan for years. Hopefully, Matt can come back and take out GSP in a dramatic rubber match.

I don't know if Lutter can pull it off but stranger things have happened. Hopefully he fights smart. That said, I think you have to press a good striker...close the distance a la Fedor/ CroCop. Make them play defense. The problem, of course, is getting in close in the first place. You're going to have to eat something on the way in you just have to make sure it isn't a haymaker. Go Lutter!

Oops, my bad. I meant Wanderlei Silva. Wouldn't it be cool if Liddell wrapped up his career with wins against Jackson, Wanderlei Silva, and Evans? Ah, a white fan's dreams!

Rampage is his weight but he hasn't been the same since Wanderlai Silva beat him into the arms of Jesus.

And now he's saying that he wants two or three fights in the UFC before a championship fight! Unbelievable! He and Evans must be seriously intimidated by the Ice Man. Are these the guys that Joe Rogan, et al., call "warriors?" Please. Where's all that "black bravado?" I guess they're waiting for him to get old. If Matt Hughes was a LHW, he would take the fight, no questions asked. These guys must think they're boxers, and that it's okay to duck fights. But as you said, they're Babied Black Fighters, the "Chosen Ones." And while others get kicked out for turning down fights, they'll be coddled and hyped to no end- until they get unceremoniously beaten down and fade into oblivion a la David Loiseau.

Liddell/ Jackson II should be the next fight for both fighters, period!

P.S. During Joe Rogan's interview of Jackson, he showed a photo of Jackson with three women. Their faces were blurred, but I'm pretty sure at least two of them were white, and most likely all three. Yet another reason to dislike him, as if we needed it. Edited by: JD074

Does Frank Shamrock fit into the 185 category? I don't see him in any of the rankings, I suppose because he's been relatively inactive. I see him as a guy who could take Anderson Silva.

Does anyone know Silva's true height? Sherdog has him listed at 5'11". No way I believe that. To me he seems to be somewhere in the 6'1" to 6'2" range.

JD,
I didn't know that Rampage had asked for two or three fights before facing Liddell. The guy just fought Matt Lindland, and was fighting in Pride before that. wtf? It isn't like he is coming out of retirement or hiatus. Did Randy come back and ask for a couple fights before facing Big Timmy?

It pisses me off that Dana isn't making Rashad and 'Rampage' (the guy needs another nickname. No one gets to use 'Rampage' as a nick when he is afraid to fight somebody) take title fights.

And yeah, I think they are afraid of Chuck. Maybe they're both hoping the Iceman will retire before they have to fight him.

Rashad is going to get a few more can fights and get a title shot. They probably won't even have him face someone like Sobral or Tito because they can't have the BBF lose his shot at the title and fall from their 'marketing the negro' campaign that's in full swing.

At least Anderson Silva agreed to fight Franklin, but then again he is from Brazil, not a black from the USA.

Lutter and Silva are both listed at 6' 2", 185 pounds on wikipedia and 5'11", 6' 0" respectively on UFC's site.

Lutter has victories over Pele and Eastman (Rampage's next opponent) so maybe he'll give Silva a run.

White Shogun, good points about Jackson ducking the Iceman. I think Quinton knows Chuck was a totally different fighter the first time they fought, and that boy knows Chuck will whoop that ass this time. YOshad isn't in the Iceman's league & will be exposed as the overhyped woodpile he is (soon enough). Also, I'd like to see Chuck take out Wandy too (eventually).

P.S. - I love your ending quote (re the "NFL")...hilarious!

Dixie,
The link in my sig was supposed to take you to an article written by a black journalist complaining about the ghetto thuggery of the NFL. But the link is dead and simply redirects to the host now. I'm going to have to change it.

Thanks!

Lutter's success against Pele and the Silva versus Horn fight give me some hope for Lutter. Horn was able to take Silva down repeatedly and avoid the clinch during standup.

So maybe Silva's not so much a badass as Leben and even Franklin are overrated.

Lutter didn't make weight. Fight is now a three round non-title fight.

How do you NOT make weight for a TITLE FIGHT???

W T F ???

If Lutter wins, he wins because he is bigger. First thing out of everybody's mouth is going to be how the fight wasn't fair, the extra weight affected Silva's ground game, Silva would own in the rematch, blah blah blah. Then, we still have to watch someone else fight Silva for the title anyway!

If Silva wins, he beats Lutter despite giving up the weight. Silva will be even more lionized than he is now because he beat a bigger man, especially if he wins by KO.

This situation is a Lose - Lose for us, IMO.

Did Horn beat Silva? I saw a highlight vid of a Horn/ Silva fight on Youtube and Silva won. At first Horn repeatedly took him down and had some success, although Silva wasn't too shabby on the ground. Later on, Horn seemed to gas and couldn't take him down, and Silva landed quite a few punches and kicks. Silva won by decision. Again, this was a highlight vid, so it doesn't show most of the fight.

Lutter has to either submit him early, or have better conditioning so he can keep taking him down for as long as he has needs to.
