Jesse Spinks is a junior at Lee Academy in Clarksdale, MS. He is the starting quarterback on the football team, leading scorer on the basketball team, a pitcher on the baseball team, and runs track.

He is always leading his team to victory. Presently he and the Lee Academy basketball who have lost just two games the whole season, are in the Mississippi Private School Association's 2A State Tournament. They played in the semis tonight.

The greatest asset of the boy is his ability to take all of his success in stride along with his team. He is a friendly person who is easy to talk to, which is hard to find in athletics today. He is a force to be reckoned with.

Welcome to the Board okra63! I've heard about this kid, me also being in North Mississippi. He had a brother that played good ball for that team several years back. In fact, I had a cousin who played football with him. Now, his little brother Jessie is really tearing it up. I hope he goes a long way after high school.

There are very few high school (or college) athletes who play four sports anymore, much less star in them. Jesse sounds like someone for us to follow closely here at Caste Football.

Rightwinger, your absolutely right. We here in Miss are going to talk him up as much as possible. I really believe if he had a fair shot, he could be a solid D1 football player. He has the mental ability, speed, agility, and heart. He knows what it takes to win, and he's a team player. I'll try to keep the board updated on him, and maybe my fellow Mississippian okra63 could do the same.Edited by: Colonel_Reb

You probably like Utah for the most part as the scenery
is white as snow.I've been there twice.

Friends,

I will try to get you some stats on Jesse here in the near future. He is the star player on all four sports he plays there at Lee Academy. I'm tell'in you, he is going to amaze you, maybe not necessarily statisically, but because he plays the four sports and balances it all with his studies of which he excels in as well, I'm pretty sure.

I played with his brother Col. Reb referred to. He played football, baseball, and track and did well, even though he didn't play in college.

Well, I have bad news regarding Jessie. He was involved in a bad car wreck and broke his back earlier this week. I hate it for this kid and his family. This next year will be his Senior year, and he will not get to play football. Hopefully, he will recover fully and be able to lead a good life. Someone else will have to step up and carry the torch for Lee Academy.

Some more news on Jesse, he is supposed to recover after wearing a brace for 3 months, but I imagine his sports days are over.

Jesse is supposed to be home from the hospital on Wednesday, March 9, 2005. Knowing him and his family like I do, I believe he will try to play sports again. Like Col.Reb said he is going to be in a back brace for three months. He was involved in a 4 wheeler wreck not a car wreck though. It was a 4-wheeler wreck!!!!!!! He broke a vertebrae in his lower back.

okra63; Sorry for the confusion about Jesse's injury. Sometimes my sources are wrong, but sometimes the wires just get kind of crossed. Anyway, I hope he has a speedy recovery and is able to play something before he graduates.

I just now saw this update on Jesse. That's really sad to hear.He sounded like a special athlete and I'm sure he's a person of rare determination and character as well. I hope herecovers to full health and if he cancontinue his athletic endeavors at some point so much the better.

Thanks Don! He is a special athlete, who comes from a good Christian family. He seems to be successful whatever he does. I believe he will come back. I am going to try to get in contact with his parents early this week. I hope he can continue starting with football next year. If my old high school doesn't have him it will kinda be a hopeless year, I feel.

When I talk to his parents, I will let you know something. Please continue to remember him in your prayers.

I talked to Jesse's girlfriend's dad, and he said he was doing fine, but will have to be in a back brace for three months. He said he may not be able to play contact sports again.

Personally, I believe he will give it another shot if the doctor clears him or if he feels 100 percent in the fall, his senior year.

I talked to Jessie's mother and she says Jessie is cleared to play all sports next year except football right now. They will have to wait and see, but she said Jessie has said that if the doctor leaves it up to him he is going to go for football. He will be glad to get the back brace off. Please pray for him!

Well, its kind of a mixed bag, okra63, if he comes back without getting hurt, it would be fine. If he comes back and gets hurt, he may be in for a tough recovery. I guess if I was a high school senior like him, I would play, because it might be my last year, but its a gamble on having something mess up again. With that said, I hope he plays and is healthy.

Yes, I know what you mean Colonel Reb. He could come back and get hurt and have a really tuff recovery, maybe be paralyzed for life. Tough decision for him to make. We'll see what he does.

Well, just a quick update on Jesse. He is doing fine, and is back at 100% at Lee Academy. He will be the QB when they take to the road against Desoto Academy (August 19) and Pillow Academy (August 26) for the first two games of their 2005 MPSA season.
