Here is evidence of media bias. Keep in mind the media has been hyping Donald Young and for the time being he has stalled a little thank goodness or we would be hearing about it til the end of time. During the French Open the media repeatedly went on and on about the "speed" of Gael Monfils who beat another treasured black "speed" player James Blake.
Tennis magazine has had Blake on the cover twice. Generally if a player hasn't won a major one cover is enough. Maria and Nadal were put on the cover before they won any majors but both managed to win one shortly thereafter. Kournikova was a cover star but one can at least see why--an attractive plyer/model type. Reason for Blake getting two covers without ever making a semifinal in a major? Quite simple. He is black and gets special hype. Period end of discussion. If he manages to win a major then some of the hype was justified but still two is at least one cover too many at this stage.

I actually didn't realize James Blake was black until I saw his picture. I don't know about too much of inside the tennis world stuff, but as far as mainstream coverage goes, I think it has been about normal. He was the last American left in the French Open, who else is the American media going to talk about?
