Too bad all these SEC are salivating over the great SAFETY he'll be. I wish otherwise but that's just the way these coaches are.

Great Find!
Nice to finally get some football video of Hunter.
That arrow has to be the most annoying thing I've ever seen. Whoever put that in there should be banned from a computer.
He runs upright with long strides. Makes him look like he's moving slowly, until you compare him to the guys he's leaving behind. Very much like Matt Jones (back when he actually saw playing time).

great speed. great acceleration. however, with his running style i think his college coach will move him to receiver. its too hard to run upright on the inside. coaches want guys to run with a forward lean. either way, i hope hunter gets a legitimate shot at a skill position at the next level.

does anyone know if he's committed anywhere yet?

So should whoever picked the music to go with it. Hopefully it wasn't his dad.

A little track update.

Hunter finished 2nd in the North Carolina State T&F Championships in the 200M with a time of 21.21. I know nothing about track, but I think that has to be pretty good speed for a safety. He won his preliminary heat in the 100M with a time of 10.72. In the finals, he ran a 10.58, but the results list him as 'FS', which I assume means a false start. So no medal for Hunter in his best event, unfortunately.

Wow! Those are very fast times, especially when you consider that he is 6'1" and 200 lbs.

One of the services lists him as a safety, the other lists him as a running back. My guess is that Davis will call him an 'athlete' and wait until Fall '09 to see how things play out. You don't honestly think Davis is brave enough to 'officially' recruit a white running back to an ACC school, do you?
Regardless of his college future, Hunter ought to be RB#1 for his high school team next year. He was misused and second-stringed last season, even though he was the best running back they had. His numbers ought to be incredible for his senior season. He might get more significant offers before signing day.

If he ever starts at UNC it will be a minor miracle. The tar heels are tar black, especially on defense. I wish the kid the best though.

That is very fast. Here is a link to the video

http://www.milesplit.us/videos

It has multiple videos so just scroll down on the right till you see 100m finals. Hopefully coaches will take notice and realize that this kid needs to be in the backfield!

I thought everybody might like an update on how our boy Hunter is doing for his senior season.

Game 1:
24 carries, 128 yards, 4TD

Game 2:
18 carries, 147 yards, 3TD

Game 3:
18 carries, 240 yards, 4TD

Game 4:
29 carries, 187 yards, 2TD

Those are full team highlights, not just Hunter. But his carries are pretty obvious to spot. Most of them aren't terribly impressive to look at. Upright runners rarely are. He looks like he's just trudging down the field. But, of course, he's one of the fastest runningbacks in the country.
I hope some other coaches take notice and offer him. I don't think Hunter has much of a chance to play tailback at UNC.

Wow those are impressive stats. I hope he thinks long and hard about being casted a safety by NC.

What would Hunter project as? A faster version of Ryan Grant?

Some of the same criticisms of Ryan Grant could be said about Hunter, but Hunter has close to world class speed.

He will have to learn how to drive the pile a little better in short yardage. He doesn't appear to get great leg drive, partly b/c of his upright style. He cuts back nicely has good vision, a burst, blazing speed and can run through arm tackles in the open field. But unlike other top white RBs from the last two years (McGuffie, Wegher, McCaffrey, Trumpy, Burkhead) he doesn't have elite open field agility. That will be enough for the Luginbill's of the world to disregard him.

Bottom line: if this kid were black, he would get an opportunity like Ryan Grant did.

I don't think I've seen him line up at receiver in any highlights, and I can't recall ever seeing any receptions in his stat line. But it seems to me that Hunter might make an excellent deep threat receiver for any college team. He's 6'1", but there aren't any DBs who could outrun him, so that's not a problem. Although I'd prefer to see him at RB, any starting job on a Big Six team would be a triumph for a white high school runningback.
Still, the most important thing is to get with a trustworthy coach. One who tries to identify and then make use of the talent on his team, rather than just giving free starting jobs to those who are 'supposed to be good'.

Tough J even Grant had a tough time proving himself. I think what it comes down to is college choices. I cannot preach that enough to these recruits! I think everyone here can agree with that!

Mount Tabor's offense was shut down in their upset loss last Friday. Hunter had 19 carries for 83 yards and no touchdowns.

Game 5

Mostly defensive highlights, with only a few Hunter runs. Although there is a somewhat good one at 2:45 (even though it was called back for a penalty). If nothing else, it shows his running style very clearly (all in slo-mo).

a complimentary article on Furr, complete with pic.

Mount Tabor's offense is centered around Furr

By Mason Linker | Journal Reporter

Published: September 11, 2008

Hunter Furr, Mount Tabor's standout running back, has a new outlook on football, and rightly so.

Unlike last season, after transferring from Forsyth Country Day, Furr isn't concerned about learning Mount Tabor's offense. He already knows it.

He isn't concerned about impressing college recruiters. He already has, and has committed to North Carolina.

But perhaps the biggest relief for Furr is being 100 percent healthy. He played through last season with an injured shoulder.

"I did good at (FCD) but coming to a public school, you have to prove yourself again, and I think I did that if not more," Furr said. "So this year, I am going for all the records I can get. The first thing I want is a state championship."

Furr, a 6-1, 207-pound senior, has asserted himself as the catalyst of Mount Tabor's offense in the first three games this season, all victories. He has 518 yards rushing, 11 touchdowns and averages 172.7 rushing and 200.3 all-purpose yards.

"No doubt about it, our offense is centered around Hunter, and we will give teams our best shot, and I don't think that's a secret to anyone who plays us," Coach Laymarr Marshall of Mount Tabor said. "But at the same time, we want to develop other parts of our game."

Marshall, a former running back at Mount Tabor and Duke, is in his first season as a head coach. He was Mount Tabor's offensive coordinator last season.

"My impression early on was first of all he was a very coachable player, and that's held true," Marshall said. "A lot of times when you get a guy who has gotten a lot of attention and has a lot of hype, that doesn't always translate into being a coachable player. It's been the opposite.

"Last year he played hurt and played with a shoulder that needed surgical repair from the first practice on. And he is a great practice player. Especially for a running back of his style -- and I can relate to that -- he runs a 4.3 (40-yard dash), but he is still more of a power runner. He runs between the tackles, and he would much rather run over you than run around you."

Furr, also a standout sprinter who finished second in the 200 meters at last springs Class 4-A track championships, said that the combination of a healed shoulder and a strong offensive line has the makings of a big season. The Spartans returned three starters -- LeRon Cameron-Fuller, Deshaun Brown and Kevin Glenn -- to the offensive line.

"Our offensive line is exceptional," Furr said. "We have eight or nine guys rotating on the line. They are big, experienced, and they hit the weight room and matured."

Furr said that other things spurring his expectations are that he weighs about six pounds less than he did last season and that he has improved his lateral movement through training. Mount Tabor was the Class 4-A state runner-up in 2007.

"Fifty touchdowns would be nice," Furr said. "That's what I am thinking, 2,500 yards and 50 touchdowns this year if I stay healthy, and hopefully I can achieve it. That's another big thing from last year with the whole shoulder thing. I played at about 80 percent last year and had to learn the offense. This year I am healthy, a senior leader, and I am adapted to the offense."

Marshall said that that the sky is the limit for his team and for Furr.

"Hunter is more polished this year," Marshall said. "Most of the time with high-school kids you see a big jump from their junior to senior years. And in his case, it's also just being comfortable. He told me a couple of weeks ago he felt like he was picking up where he left off in the playoffs, and he was hot.

"He is a lot more patient runner, and I tried to work with him on that last year. He has to be patient and pick his spots. He has a good relationship with the offensive line, and he feels more comfortable with everything."

what i find "interesting" is how ESPN scouts say he doesn't have elite speed in the open field.

Not surprising that ESPN would say something that stupid. They are zealously anti white to the point that it is dumbfounding. Tom Luginbill is getting donations from the United Negro College fund it seems.

ESPN had the nerve to say (despite what people's eyes would make apparent as day to see) that McGuffie is "a straight lined guy" and "takes too long to put together moves" and "lacks the ability to make multiple defenders miss".

They said the same thing about Brandon Wegher and even said "there isn't much wiggle there".

Luginbill is so anti-white I wonder if he literally "loathes" white athletes, his evaluations make "zero" sense. They now have Wegher ranked 40 something in the RB rankings and had McGuffie ranked 30th last year. nfldraftscout.com who scouts for the NFL, knows enough to ignore ESPN, they have McGuffie ranked 5th for 2012!

I would go as far as say that Tom Luginbill is a hater, a pathological liar, and an evil man.

Game 8:
26 carries, 143yds, 3TD

Hunter is an amazingly consistent performer, as the game-to-game numbers show. And he's generating a lot of yards, considering he's still having to split carries with another back on the team.

Hunter Furr is going to make a great Tar Heel. He will look good in the baby blue colors of North Carolina. Maybe he can help their football team get to a higher level. They also have a great defense but their offense has never been much better than average. It has always been a basketball school.

According to a track message board I go to, Hunter is going to run track at North Carolina. I would love to see him continue to progess. He is an amazing athlete and a very good sprinter as well. This should be interesting.
