I taped it and watched it last night. First this is an important match because it featured white speed vs. black speed. Blake is half white and they kept showing his white mother in the stands but for the media and society his speed is due to black genes.so the white part is kind of useless in regards to stereotyping.. Anyway it feels great to see a speedy white athlete beat a black opponent. I could be wrong but the media appears to get nervous if a white athlete like Hewitt flashes more speed than a black guy like Blake who the media constantly praises for his speed. Oddly or not so oddly they only showed the second tie breaking set that Hewitt won to even the match at one game apiece. Hewitt went on to crush Blake the next two sets but ESPN2 skipped that part. What I like about Lleyton is he is one feisty son of a gun who isn't afraid of playing a black athlete. Some american athletes should take note.

Australians love Blake, dislike their white native son. From the Australian newspaper The Sun-Herald:

Why is it that we love James Blake (pictured) and detest Lleyton Hewitt?

Why can't Hewitt, raised in suburban Adelaide in a typical manner to most middle-class Australians, have respect for his opponents or an appropriate sense of the occasion?

After being a juvenile brat, Hewitt briefly seemed to develop a bit of maturity amid his fist-pumping, self-psyching behaviour. Until now.

Blake's magnanimity in applauding a particularly fine piece of play by Hewitt in their encounter on Thursday was ignored by Hewitt, who turned his back on his opponent and screamed to his entourage. It has, sadly, become normal behaviour for Hewitt, rather than an occasional failing.

Hewitt has said he didn't see Blake's gesture, turning immediately to his support team. Is he so insecure that when there is an entire stadium urging him on, he still craves the approbation of a small group of people in the stands?

If there is one rival Hewitt should be sensitive about, it's Blake, whom he implicated in what many people interpreted as a racist comment to an umpire about a black linesman during the 2001 US Open. But, typically, Hewitt only ramped up the orgy of self-congratulation.

Blake has endeared himself to us all with his tough comeback from injuries, his gamesmanship and his forgiveness of Hewitt.

Many Australians will be barracking for Hewitt's opponents. If that adds to the chip on his shoulder, so be it. He seems to thrive on that sort of negativity.

Oh, you know the liberal media. Australia is
an outpost for white athletic talent and is one of the last there
is. I am sure the Aussies don't want to blacken their favorite
sport, well one of their favorites. It is just that they probably
do not tolerate bad manners from athletes down under as much as we
Americans do. They would hate Randy Moss I bet. In Rugby,
the officials are always addressed as "sir".
