I believe it's an Old Spice commercial with Brian
Urlacher. Towards the end of the commercial
Urlacher says, "I may not always win, but I always try
hard." I'm totally perplexed by this. What the h*ll
would compel the director to put this line in the
commercial? It has nothing to do with anything. It's
totally out of place. Maybe the director or producer
was playing a joke on the "dumb jock," I don't know.
It would be really easy to flagrantly belittle him;
commercials do that all the time. If they meant to
belittle him, I don't know why they chose to be so
subtle about it. I probably ignored the commercial
ten or twenty times before catching that line, so it's
not that noticeable. It's not a big deal, I just find it
really odd.

This may sound rude, but who cares? Its just a commercial, be happy it
features urlacher. don't care about some stupid line they have him say.
besides he is happy, he probably got a bunch of money from that
commercial.

That was rude, but that's okay. Sometimes I can be rude, too.

Like I said, it's no big deal, just odd. And
annoying. So much of what is shown in the media is annoying.
Especially the portrayal of white athletes. But he did make
plenty of money, I'll give you that. It's just too bad that
deodorant commercials are the only endorsements that white
athletes can land. Who was the last white male athlete in a
shoe commercial? Larry Bird back in the 80's? Geez. And
even then he was co-starring with his black arch-nemesis,
Magic Johnson. And flattering portrayals would be nice.
Something similar to the Carmelo Anthony commercial where
comedian Tommy Davidson brags on and on about him.
There are plenty of white athletes who are better than him. But
I guess we'll have to settle for "I don't always win but I always
try." How glorious!
