That is horrible news. What a horrific ending to a crazy season. I feel so bad for the kid. Either way, he did his best and that's all we can ask for. Thanks for the update and my prayers go out to Christophe for a speedy recovery and some well needed time off.

Really bad news about Lemaitre....ishcios is in the hamstring, right?
If true, that's a serious injury that will take some time to recover.

Really a shame that he can't run in the 200m where he had a chance to medal. It was great that he made the 100m final, but the 200m was he chance to get to the podium. Pity.

100% confirmed, Lemaitre out of Moscow :(
It is very sad, probably the cold and low temperature with the rain helped to this horrible injury :tsk:

In beginning i read that is no very important injury, but perfectly 8 days resting and recovering.
Perhaps with luck, Lemaitre could to run in Brussels at 6th september or any little race before too.

I would prefer that Lemaitre does not get final in 100, Vicaut by example, and Christophe a great bronze medal in 200 with 19.75 by example :(

Sorry so much by Lemaitre

For a fit sprinter a pulled hamstring is almost always a result of a lack of relaxation. It was likely Lemaitre lost his concentration, tried too hard, and did not have his typically great finish. He could have finished fourth.

“I’m split between pride and frustrationâ€

His injury to the right thigh, suffered just after the finish of the 100m in the World Championship final, has forced him to put an end to his running season. However, the French sprinter hasn’t yet left Moscow. At the invitation of his equipment supplier, Asics, he met up with the international press on Wednesday 14 August. Extracts.Photos libres de droit pour utilisation presse - merci de respecter le crédit photo : DPPI / KMSP
Christophe, how do you feel three days on from having left the track of the Loujniki stadium on a stretcher at the end of the 100m final?I’m on the mend. I’m barely limping now and I no longer need crutches to get around, but my season is over. I’m having treatment twice a day, in Moscow, with the FFA’s medical team. For this reason in itself, it was logical for me to remain here until the end of the Worlds. The other reason is my desire to cheer on those athletes from the French team who are still competing.
How are you spending your days in Moscow?I’m undergoing treatment and I’m going to the stadium to watch the competitions. I’m walking too so as to eliminate the œdema in my thigh. With the benefit of hindsight from the past three days, how do you assess your performance over the 100m at the World Championships? The races confirmed that I was ‘match fit’ at the time. That’s especially true of the semi-final. I discussed it afterwards with my coach, Pierre Carraz. I was overly tense when I ran it, but I still achieved a time of 10’’00. Such a performance proves that I was back to my best level. I’d have preferred to pull off a better result in terms of the place and the time, but the competition was positive in terms of the way I ran it. I’m quite proud to have contradicted everyone by reaching the 100m final.Between this pride at reaching the 100m final and the disappointment of not being able to defend your chances over 200m, what is your overriding sentiment?I waver between the two. On the one hand, I’m reassured by my journey to the 100m, and in some ways I feel slightly liberated by not having to remain so focused on athletics as I have been over recent months. On the other hand, my withdrawal from the 200m leaves me with a sense of frustration. I’m convinced that I had a chance to perform very well in it. Moscow has proven that I’d got the feel for it again, but unfortunately it was a bit late in the day. What lessons will you draw from this competition?I have the certainty of having found the keys to pulling off a good performance again. I now have a season ahead of me to work on it and get even stronger.Without you, how do you envisage the 200m? Do you have a prediction?I see Usain Bolt securing the win, ahead of Warren Weir. For the bronze medal I imagine there will be a battle between Wallace Spearmon and Nickel Ashmeade. With the benefit of hindsight, how do you rate the 100m final?Usain Bolt logically won, but Justin Gatlin was a threat to him. He even led at the start of the race. That proves that Bolt is no longer as domineering as he was in 2008/2009. He remains untouchable though. To my mind, the final podium of Bolt, Gatlin and Carter is logical and unsurprising. Were you surprised by the reception you got from the Muscovite public? On the clapometer, prior to the 100m final, you were only ‘beaten’ by Usain Bolt. A little, yes. I didn’t expect to be so widely recognised and appreciated in Moscow. I’d never been to Russia before. As such I hadn’t imagined that I would inspire such a reaction from the public. It’s a nice surprise.

Lemaitre sub european record !!!!!

Wow is that some insane times. If only we could have got a chance to witness it. Here is what his dad said but translated in english.

Lemaitre sub european record!! For senior Lemaitre, there is no doubt that his son had finished second behind Bolt, the European record in the key: "In training, Christophe recently ran a 200m in 19'' 60! I am absolutely convinced he would beat the old record of Europe Mennea (19'' 72 in 1979) for the World, if he had not injured. I had never been as fast as in the days leading up to his arrival in Moscow. It looked like he stuck in the corners. He had finished second behind Bolt. "

yes the chinese Zhang ran exactly 10 flat with 0.143 reaction time, very impresive. Christophe ran 9.991 with 0.171 reaction time.

Real pity about that injury, but sh!t happens. Nevertheless, a good championships for Lemaitre. I must admit that, after the great season in 2011, he kinda went backwards in 2012 and seemed to be doing so again early in 2013. I was worried we had another Shirvo or Pickering: great potential as a youngster that sadly fizzled out.

But with this very good performance in the 100m, and what his dad was saying about his excellent training performances in the 200, he seems to have come alive again. He said as much in his interview above. Well done Christophe, and good luck next season.

PIERRE CARRAZ'S REACTION AFTER THE RACE (200M)

I realize English may not be your primary language but it's the langauge the rest of this forum considers standard, It would be slightly appreciated if you could post translations alongside these paragraphs. I would, I realize I could Google translate but It's likely I won't receive anything comprehensible

More or less...

"Obviously, this race leaves me with some regrets, coward Carraz.

[note - I don't know if they're referring to Carraz as a coward or as "loose" as I don't know the full context of the quote]

For Cristophe, too, definitely (regrets). I am convinced that he was able to finish second. One was going for that result, at any rate. That 19.79 for Wier, that wasn't so outstanding. The field was wide open, at least for the bronze. Because the finish of the Aixois in the last fifty meters could have been amazingly similar to the look of the 200 meter race. But, that's life, right? One must not just live life with regrets," exhaled (with regret) Coach Savoyard.

Thanks a lot, I like Pierre's optimism. Rather than talking about how Christophe is unable to compete with the Jamaicans, Americans e.t.c and the rest of his self defeatist bull****.

I dont think that Lemaitre defeats to Weir in that race, 19.79 is great time, but i see him bronze medall, defeating to Mitchell or Ashmeade.

Sorry by Lemaitre

I see very very hard that Lemaitre gets 3 golds in European Championship, but well he will try it and if he gets wonderful times i will be happy.

In 100 very hard with very good Vicaut and fast Dasaolu, although the brittish im not totally sure because he has always injuries in rounds...

In 200 Martina is always hard and now with Gemili in sub20 umm very tough for Lemaitre too, although perhaps Gemili could to push to our idol for to get sub 19.8 :shy:

in 4x100 if GB doest no have mistakes in the changes of baton, i dont see that France can defeat them...

Here is a great article talking about Christophe and his goals for 2014. He wants to go for the triple gold at the European Outdoor Championships. If he can pull this off beating Vicaut and Gemeli it will make him an even bigger legend. Lemaitre also says that he wants to run under 10 seconds on a regular basis this season. I hope he can return to his 2010 form!

Christophe wins his first 60 meter of the season in a ok time of 6.61
Upper 6.5's would of been better, but much better than last years opening of 6.7's
