Cast(e) Aside Football Players, version 2.0

Let's keep this one clean. ;)

I wanted to say about Jeff Janis - was he going to become Jordy Nelson 2.0? Of course not. But he, at the very least, had the potential to become a solid #3 receiver - on the field for passing downs, consistently makes 4 or 5 catches a game, doesn't get a huge contract but gets paid enough to be set for life and take care of his family - there are dozens of black players assigned that role, but extremely few Whites.

It comes back to the point that the original thread was making - if a White player is not a superstar - except for the positions that are Caste-approved (QB, OL, TE, special teams) - he's quickly going to be cast(e) aside. That's why guys like Jordy, C-Mac, Kuechly, JJ & TJ Watt are allowed to shine, but there should be dozens more White players at WR, RB, and defense who are not as spectacular as the guys mentioned above, but good enough to be solid starters. But there aren't.

Excellent analogy and I agree 100%. Most people don't realise that the caste system starts at the pop warner football level as little kids. Even those coach's don't want whites to play certain positions on the average. As you get to high school, college
and the nfl the snowball continues to get bigger. It literally is almost a miracle when a white defies all the odds and stereotypes and countless coach's and scouts trying to slot them into certain positions.

It's right there in the NFL forum for everyone to see. ;)

Ok, thanks.

Aaron Rodgers is a great quarterback and whatever else he may or may not have done he threw to Jordy Nelson when Nelson was healthy.

Too many to count and that's an honest answer.

That's the main reason I haven't participated. There's many hundreds, probably thousands by now, that have been mentioned at one time or another on CF.

I concur. When @Don Wassall made that post in the Caste Football Time machine thread it got me thinking - 1993 was just about a generation ago. Way too many white athletes during the past 27 years have been screwed over - has to be in the many thousands for sure. @Freethinker made a very astute and poignant post I also related to regarding the innocence of childhood and joy of sports for what they were only to realize later on it's just been a subversive ruse for the better part of 40 years.

You know how it goes sometimes when you're browsing -- you end up somewhere unexpected. In my case I found some highlights of Marc Edwards, who was an excellent fullback for Notre Dame in the mid 1990s. I believe he succeeded Jerome Bettis, who was a featured runner under Lou Holz and went on to great success in the NFL despite being fat and slow. And I don't mean that in a particularly disparaging way, only that great running backs can come in all shapes and sizes and often don't have great foot speed.

Edwards was used far less than Bettis, but at least he got to run the ball some, reminiscent from that era of Mike Alstott at Purdue and Scott Greene at Michigan State. Edwards was drafted in the second round by San Francisco in '97 and then began the all-too-common pathetic journey of a greatly underused White running back talent -- five different teams in nine NFL seasons, a career total of 124 rushes with a season "best" of 141 yards.

I found this Notre Dame highlights package of Edwards that was downloaded in '06 and surprisingly is still on YouTube, though the footage is so poorly preserved it looks like it's from the 1920s, or maybe the 1820s. But it still shows how good of a runner Edwards was, a bull who should have had a long NFL career as a starting power runner.

never heard of Edwards, thanks for the video link. He was a bulldozer with very quick feet and direction changes.

A shame he was not afforded a chance to play in the NFL.

Edwards looked to have plenty of explosiveness, agility and speed. Another white athlete with wasted potential.

He played in the NFL and won a ring with the Patriots as a starting fullback.

His career in the NFL was a poor man's version of his college career.
Wow. No clue. Glad he got a ring. Not many affelets can say that.

You obviously didn't bother to read what I wrote about Edwards in post #9, going straight to the video instead. ;)
