Sorry guys but I just can't share your enthusiasm for BYU. While
it is true that they field the Whitest major college football team
year-in and year-out, Mormonism is a bizarre religion that is thrust in
the face of the rest of the world by the equally-bizarre
"missionaries." Plus, having their players go on 2 year missions
gives BYU a distinct (and some might say unfair) advantage, since they
have 24 and 25 year old men playing against younger players.

Southern Knight; As a Born Again Christian, I do share your views on Mormonism, however, I don't see what that has to do with supporting their team, which is not all mormon. At least they are proud to be white. The age "advantage" they have hasn't helped them in the last few years. Many college teams field old players, just not in such abundance as BYU. I am just glad to see an overwhelmingly white team on the field, even if they are a bunch of cultists. I'm sure Stanford and many other schools field many atheists and agnostics, which I have the same attitude towards as mormons, which is that they all need salvation. At least they are white players who can hopefully help reverse the Caste System.

I've read a little bit of The Book of Mormon. I didn't really buy it either. But I would say the conduct of these players is much more Christian than any team in the SEC. I think Mormonism and the laws in Utah have been what has saved Salt Lake City from a black invasion similar to every other major city in the U.S. That can't be all bad ,and as far as the age thing goes, many of these black recruits have repeated at least one grade level in school.

Many of those black players haven't the reading ability of a person with one grade level of education. As for the SEC and Christian conduct, it only makes sense that they don't act Christian. They are the blackest teams in the country and the vast majority of those blacks aren't Christians. Make no mistake though, Mormonism is a cult, not a form of Christianity.

I agree with you about the blacks in the SEC. That's what I tried to imply. I don't know enough about Mormonism to debate. I suspect you could be right. But I too will root for BYU. The whites there conduct themselves in a better manner than the black thugs at other schools irrespective of religion. What percentage of whites that play football there are Mormon would you guess?

My comments regarding Mormonism were not intended to be insulting, nor
were said comments based upon any doctrinal or theological basis.
It is simply my belief that BYU uses its athletic teams as yet another
form of proselytising (to supplement the efforts of their
"missionaries.")

In fact, prior to targeting South America as a "growth area" for the
Mormon church, BYU televised its basketball games in South America from
several years, so that when the "missionaries" showed up on
peoples' doorsteps, a common reaction was "Hey, I know you guys from
the BYU basketball games!" (The reason I put "missionaries" in
quotes is that, unlike Christian missionaries, Mormons provide no
services of any kind to their hosts).

Sorry, but the dishonesty and cult-like nature of Mormonism override
the Whiteness of their football team. You should support the
service academies instead.

You are right, Southern Knight, about them being a cult. I will definetely be on a mission field myself next week when I move to BYU. I don't have as much knowledge about their being dishonest as a group as you do, but I can understand why someone would not pull for them because of their beliefs. I imagine the dishonesty will reveal itself to me while I am out there fairly quickly if it is that way. You could make the argument about "athletic proselytizing" for many other religious schools as well. BYU is probably now the most pronounced of these though.

KG; I would say that probably between 60-70% of their team is mormon. They recruit nationally and mainly mormon, but they have had many high profile non-mormon players in the last 25 years.

There are lots of Mormons playing for Utah and Utah State and although I am not a Mormon I do cheer for the teams with the most White players. For years I liked Notre Dame but I'am not Catholic either-Baylor is a Baptist College but very liberal. I do cheer for Army, Navy and Air Force even though I think young White Males are treated very poorly by all branches of the Military. Bottom line for me is I might disagree with some things about the school but I'll cheer for the White Males everytime!!

the boxers out or Russia.I don't care what religion a kid
is.I just like to see them become stars and do good at
whatever sport they decide to participate in.

I just updated BYU's depth chart for Saturday's game. Looks like 20 or 21 white starters out of 22. It depends on whether Johnny Harline starts ahead of a black WR or not. The current depth chart says it could be either.

Well, we got beat, bad! On a positive note, John Beck broke the school record for passing attempts and completions, but without any TD's. He was 41 of 60. Nathan Meikle was our best reciever today. He always caught the ball when it was close to him. The "big play" blacks on our team did not do very well at all. We couldn't run at all, and 2004 MWC leading Todd Watkins didn't get 50 yards recieving. What did ya'll think? I look forward to Eastern Illinois next week.

A pretty sad game for the Cougars.Where is Luke Staley when you need him.Another big loss was the receiver who went on his morman mission. He was the fastest guy on the team and your best deep threat. They will bounce back next week.

No doubt, white lightning. We will return to fight and win another day, just not today. A good part was the play of John Beck, Nathan Meikle, and Fahu Tahi. They did fairly well against a good BC team. I think BC will be almost as good as they were last year.

I think it is okay to root for white ball players, but I do believe it is important to set yourself apart from their beliefs as Colonel reb has done.

Colonel Reb you are on a mission field. Good luck to you and go Cougars tommorown against Eastern Illinois. You all deserve a win.

Well, we beat E. Illinois 45-10. John Beck had a good day 26/39 for 256 yards and 3 TD's, but he threw 2 int's. Nathan Meikle had a cool run from the slot back position for 11 yards and a first down inside the 20. Matt Allen had 3 catches for 54 yards for a team leading 18 Yards per catch. It was good to see some offense!

Here's a link to an article on Nathan Meikle, who is the most dependable reciever we have in my opinion. I don't like this article all that much, but it does illustrate what happens to a white RB in college. Notice they never mention how "slow" his 40 time is. I'll tell you this from seeing him run up close, he is fast, very fast. He ran one time against Eastern Illinois for 11 yards and a first down from the slotback position. I want to see him back there more often!

Man, what a let down and a collapse! We were up the whole game and then sat back and TCU beat us in overtime! What a pathetic joke. Unreal. I was at the game and I still don't believe it.

Southern Knight, I ended up here because of a nice offer in regards to my education. As far as tailgaiting goes, there is none to speak of, at least when compared to Oxford, Mississippi, the capital of college tailgaiting!

According to a recent (Oct. 10, 2005) ESPN The Magazine article BYU has got religion when it comes to recruiting. The criteria in order of importance:

1. LDS, a church leader must vouch for a recruit before he can visit the campus
2. good athlete
3. good student

As a result the recruiting pool has dropped from 1,000 to 125. The team is down to 14% Black vs. the Div. 1 average of 45%.

Why the change? They were losing even with lots of Black players. And Black player problems. In 2004 14 players were suspended or dismissed for honor code violations, 13 were Black and 12 were non-LDS. In 2004 there were two instances of gang rape committed by Black players.

Can BYU win? Mesa (Arizona) Mountain View High School has won 8 state championships (largest school division). All-White, and since Mesa is a LDS stronghold, vitually all-LDS. They have another Heap at tight end. And that's just one high school. There are 5 million LDS in the U.S. A birth rate above replacement level at about 2.3.

Yeah, but isn't the COJCLDS minority-friendly? Just for the moment. Things change. The Elders will have another vision. 'Lo, we have been shown by the Almighty that Mexicans can't play football worth a draught, they are either small and weak or fat and slow. Blacks cannot operate the West Coast offense as Moroni doth warned us. Pacific Islanders behave as Blacks, and eat at least twice as mucheth.'

How can you have team morale when most of the players are self-denying high-achievers burdened by party-seeking non-Whites?

I've always admired the Mormons for their ability to work together as a community while also prospering individually. If the Elders do have another "vision," it could go a long way toward leading a desperately needed white revival in America.
