After watching tonights NHL draft on VS. I was thrilled that this kid fell to my team (Pittsburgh Penguins) at #20. At the beginning of last season, he was the projected #1 overall pick, but after this draft he has sort of become the hockey equivalent of Brady Quinn. Why did he fall so far? All I kept hearing about was some attitude problems he had and thats why he fell. But look at the NFL. Look at all the poor character guys that get drafted at high picks (pacman jones) I seriously doubt Esposito is anywhere nearly as problematic in his respective sport as Pacman is in his, but the caste media has been treating him this way. Why?

I watched one of the local sports reports at 11 to see who the Penguins selected, and it sounds like they got a steal. Injuries and inconsistency were the negatives ascribed to him, but like Lance said he was a possible number one overall last year so I like the pick.

The sportscast listed him as having "top-end speed." Since there are so few blacks in the NHL, it was okay to describe a whiteathlete this way. It's always interesting how when blacks are present in anynotable proportion, whites somehow lose the ability to be fast.

The NHL draft is actually very interesting to watch. Most people probably think it is boring because unless you follow NCAA and Junior hockey, you're probably not gonna know who most of these guys are. Espo has a figure skating background and is known mainly for his skating ability. Listening to him talk, he seemed like a nice kid. Many people thought of him as being "fruity" or possibly gay, but I think those types of sentiments are directed at any white male that doesn't look like some generic UFC musclehead. Being that the Penguins are my favorite pro-sports team I am ecstatic that we got him and I wish him success for years to come

Even if the NHL were 50% black, the fastest players would still be White. Look at the black players in the league now and how mediocre they are when it comes to speed...Georges Laraque, Peter Worrell, Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre, Donald Brashear, etc. They all suck. The only one with decent speed is Jarome Iginla, and he's at least half-White. All the fastest players in the league are Caucasian: Ovechkin, Crosby, Cullen, Gionta, Kariya (half-Japanese), etc. Blacks, on average, are just not anatomically designed for the sport of hockey or skating in general. I mean, it's a nordic sport for God's sake.

Great free agent signing for the Pens. Sydor especially should help solidify their defense. However, I think the Avs did the best to improve their team. They have a nice mix of old and young players.
