Andre Agassi is coming out with a new book that details, among other things, his use of crystal meth for a while, which he lied about to the ATP when he tested positive for it.
Martina Navratilova professes to be "shocked" that Agassi lied, comparing him to Roger Clemens:
"Shocking," Navratilova said Thursday from Sarasota, Fla., in a phone interview. "Not as much shock that he did it as shock he lied about it and didn't own up to it. He's up there with Roger Clemens, as far as I'm concerned. He owned up to it [in the book], but it doesn't help now."
Why compare him to Clemens? Clemens has never admitted lying about using steroids nor has it been proven he used them; he has consistently and adamently said that he hasn't. Why not choose Alex Rodriguez or David Ortiz, big stars who did admit to lying about using steroids? Or Barry Bonds, who was charged with perjury after denying using steroiods? Or Sammy Sosa or Rafael Palmiero, who wereexposed as liars after denying they juiced?Of course we know why. It's the acceptable thing to do with no downside risk.
