I have written numerous times on this site about 40 times being overrated, but I agree that it is our best arguement for white players.

Personally, I don't think that's the best argument. You can teach technique through practice, and repetition, but you can't teach speed. D1 coaches would rather teach technique toburners, than toslower guys because it'll be much more effective once properly utilized. You can have the highest football IQ in the world, but if you can't catch the guy you're chasing, or elude the guy pursuing you, what good will it do?

Also, according to that scout combines link: http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=9&c=15&yr =2007&sort=40

Of the 75 fastestguys, 70 of them were black.49 of the top 50 are black. And white high school players probably outnumber black players6 to 1. This realization isn't lost on D1 coaches. The4.6 Keyshawn Johnson's and 4.6 Emmit Smith's are anomalies. They're the exception to the rule. Decades of historytaught these coaches that takinga raw 4.2 - 4.3 freshmanis a better gamble than araw 4.5 - 4.6freshman.

excellent point tech. the white/non blacks at current combines are significantly faster than the whites at said combines. now let's try to find the root of the reason for this. it could be as i think youre implying that its genetic, and therefore set in stone, that whites are slow and blacks are fast...period. but why not just explore other possible explanations.

i offer a different point of view. in my opinion, whites/non-blacks can be just as fast as blacks, particularly in the sport of football. the reason the numbers dont add up, is because of a social construct that pushes promising young white athletes away from the skill positions and into the OL, TE, FB slots. as a culture we've been force fed the idea that whites cannot be as fast or athletic as blacks, and past greats like Jordan, Jackie Robinson, Sayers, and Carl Lewis are used as constant reminders of that "fact". when the civil rights movement allowed for a mass integration of blacks into mainstream sport, there where quite a few great black athletes that rose to fame. men like sayers, and robinson for example. without a doubt, great athletes. however, the americanmedia, in itsever present rush to simplify things and avoid the laboroustask of actuallyanalyzing each athlete/case individually, quicklydecided that the only explanationfor the athletic aptitude of black sporting pioneers was a genetic one.and from there of course, the next "logical" step was to invent a link between dark skin and speed. and for the past 40 years white athletes havepaid the price.

i dont buy the "race" theory. i think its a mostly cultural reason that explains the abundance of"black" athletes in football (college & high school, thenfl is another story i'll get into later).amajority of the elite black players coming out of high school view sport as their only chance to make it in life. the only path to a nice "crib" or an escalade. need proof? just look at the wonderlic tests each year. its safe to say, graduate school is not an option. so they work out year round (the majority, not all, i generalize for brevity's sake), they take pride in lifting weights and runningfast bc letsface it, theyre not going to brag about grades or last yrs ski trip to aspen. for most black players, grades arent important and vacations are something theyreonly ever goingto e\xperience IF they make the pros. perhaps more importantly insustaining the current dominance of black playersis that society fully expects them to excel in sports.it practically demands it of them.people expect them to know how to play basketball and to be really fast. and if theyre not they are ridiculed for it by their peers. also, blacks areassumed to begood at the skill positionsfrom the get go. nobody questions a black guy who wants to run the ball, sadly a white guy doesnt get the same luxury.

whites are at a cultural disadvantage in terms of football as it stands today. whites dont have the cultural pressure to develop their athleticism that blacks do. most whites know that theres a slim chance of going pro in any sport so they often decide to focus on grades instead. also, on average, white parents have more money than black parents, so they can afford to give their kids distractions that black kids dont get. white kids go to camp in the summer (again, generalizing for arguments sake), they play video games, they have money to buy junk food and more importantly they dont feel like making it into the pros is the ONLY chance they have for a meaningful life. i can assure you, if white kids across the nation where lead to believe that the only thing that could get them "the good life" was making it into the nfl, their would be an army of white kids lifting weights year round and running track, trying to get their speed up for the scouts. if more whites were allowed, expected and encouraged to play the "skill" positions from an early age, like black kids are, believe me, their would be a plethora of fast white prospects... not "deceptively fast" either, just fast. im confident that day will come. the few whites that make it today, will leave an easier path to follow for future white kids wanting to play ball. white kids will learn the recruiting ropes better over time. they'll learn to show their flash to attract recruiters, they'll learn to speak up and claim theyre position (Sehorn quote), they will learn that there is no glory in sitting on the bench at a "big time" program where a caste coach praises your tenacity in practice but refuses to give you an in-game snap. they'll start congregating and transferring to "white friendly" schools where they'll get an honest shot at developing their skills. and most importantly they'll learn that together they have a better shot of looking out for their own. the future tre smith's and matt grootegoeds will shun the SC's of the world, they'll go to places like CSU, and BYU and they will build new dynasties to rival the 'Bama's of old. now, Tech, you might be sitting at your computer, reading this and shaking your head, u might think theres no way white athletes can claim a few D-1 programs in the near future and build them up into white powerhouses. but i disagree, a motivated group of future white athletes guys can and will one day return to athletic prominence in football.and if you have any doubts as to the potential ofmotivated white men, or their capabilites, do me a favor, pick up an american historybook and take some notes.

cheers.

High school combines are open to everyone. From the premier, upper-echelon white & black athletes, to the fat kid from the a/v club. You don't even have to be a football player to go. Nike, Sparq, all of them. All you have to do is sign up. The country is 80% white. An overwhelming majority of high school running backs, wide receivers, and corner backs across the country are white. Anoverwhelming majority. Every one of those kids, white and black, especially the superstars, wants to be a professional athlete.Every oneof us on this boardwanted to be a professional athlete. Unfortunately, as with every endeavor, the cream rises to the top, and the rest get weeded out as they age, and as the begin competing against other cities, then other states, then other regions, then nationally.

Asians and jews are genetically pre-dispositioned to have the highest IQs. Testing bears that out. Blacks have the genetic predisposition to be more prone to sickle-cell anemia than every other race. Statistics and testing for the sickle-cell gene bear that out. Jews are more prone to Tay-Sachs disease. Genetic testing bears that out. There are a myriad of race-specificgenetic traits that separateracial groups from each other. I don't understand why it's so hard to accept that speedjust happens to be one of them. I think it's a huge stretch to say15 year old sophomore Larry Raperruns a 4.24 because he "trains" harder that everyone else. He runs a 4.24 because it's in his genes to run a 4.24.

You also mentioned the Wondelic. Torry Holt scored an 11. Anquan Boldin scored a 31, which is almost3 TIMES higher.Who's better? Anquan's a nice wideout, but Torry Holt's afirst ballot Hall of Famer.

Donovan McNabb scored a 16. Akili Smith scored a 37. Who's better? Peyton Manning scored a 26. Tom Brady scored a 33. Aren't they also better than Akili Smith? Rick Mirer and Drew Bledsoe came out the same year. Mirer was morebrain, Bledsoe was more athlete.Who had the better career? Alex Smith is BEYONDmediocre. His 57.2 quarterback rating is the lowest in the league. His 48.7% completion percentage is the lowest in the league. He scored a 40 on the Wonderlic.

Kellen Winslow scored a 12. Now that he's healthy, name ONE tight end in the league who's better than he is. Reggie Wayne scored a 12. LaDanian Tomlinson, the best back in football, scored a 13. Chad Johnson scored a 15.When the best playerscan score low, and the worst players can score high, the test's be proven irrelevent.

Also, before last weeks games, here were the top wideouts, who were among the to 30 receivers. I saw how Jared inferredthat Keyshawn's 4.6 was the norm, and used Wes Welker as an example of how4.6's can do just as much damage.Of the guys who's 40's I could find,Welker was THE ONLYtop receiver in the 4.6's. And that's because a 4.2 guy in Moss, and a4.4 guy in Stallworth draw away the elite coverage. Last year it was 4.3 Chris Chambers who drew the speed cover, leaving Welker for the underneath positional work.

It's not a sheer coincidence the rest are under 4.6

There is some truth to your statement in saying genes play a significant role in athletic ability. Duh! The problem is, most American whites have other areas in their life that take away from athletics. On the average whites spend more time in front of a computer, tv, or reading books and not outside in the hood developing certain skills that springboard them in athletics. Black culture revolves around sports and begins at a very early age. Ive seen this first hand when working at my internship a few years ago. I would work in the morning and go to the only gym within driving distance and lift weights and occasionally play basketball. This gym was in a black neighborhood and I would be the only white person around and got quite a few strange looks when I first started. The main thing I noticed right away was the number of elementary kids that were there from open to close. Basically all of the parents in the area used this gym as their own personal daycare. My point is these kids are basically increasing their chances of being a great athlete and reaching their genetic potential. How many white kids are doing the same across the country? For one, most white parents would be a little more concerned for their child's welfare than leaving them with a bunch of grown men all day long. Secondly, they have other distractions at home. Observing this behavior further proved to me that blacks aren't "naturally" better at athletics, they just work at it harder. This fact flies in the face of genetic makeup being the major factor in the sheer number of black athletes in the college and professional ranks. However, I know and have seen many great white athletes being discriminated against due to the caste system. I am only trying to point out that reaching one's genetic potential plays a role as well.

Okay, so what you're saying is:

a) according to you, blacks work harder in athletic pursuits than whites, and put in thetime, effort, and dedication necessary to maximize their genetic potential.

b)whites are mistreated in the college and professional ranks, even though they, according to you, lack the time spent, the hard work ethic, effort, and dedication to maximize their genetic potential, as do theirblack counterparts.

Isn't that self-contradictory?

Speed is God in professional athletics. It always has been, it always will be.The 4.2 and 4.3 Don Beebes,Tim Dwights, Matt Joneses, and Kevin Kaspers of the world had no problem making it to theNFL ranks because they possess superior speed than that of most of their contemporaries, black and white. The 4.7David Ball's, the 4.6 Matt Hasses, and the 4.6 Jordy Nelson's of the world unfortunately have to bring a little more to the table because theirlack of speed makes drafting them a crapshoot. They didn'tfacethe Shawn Springs, Champ Bailey,Antoine Winfield-equivalents on the college level, so drafting them is more of a gamble than drafting a Yamon Figurs who didn't do anything of recognition in college. The 4.3 combine made the difference.

The dynamic of speed, not race, is what makes the difference at theskills positions. And 49 out the top 50 burners at all of the 2007high school combines being black indicates to me that that phenomenon isn't gonna change anytime soon.

60% of baseball players are white. 90 to 95% of the top base stealers every year are black. If MLB whites practiced hard and maximized their potential to make it to the professional ranks ranks in baseball, why don't represent 60% of the top base stealers?

Mike Hass bought the Belitnikoff award to the table, and David Ball brought
several all-time records to the table. Far more than their counterparts.

"The dynamic of speed, not race, is what makes the difference at the skills
positions."

If its all about speed, then why do they call them "skill" postions? Why not
call them "speed" positions?

How lame. The discrimination is obvious.

BTW, what does it matter, posting the "top" wideouts (really just the ones
that get to start)? Just because these guys start doesn't mean that they
are the best available. Of course they are going to get the most grabs if
they are the ones on the field. That proves nothing. Of course many of
them are really fast--that's the most important thing to the coaches. But
that doesn't mean they are the best.

Bernard Berrian is a great example (I follow the Bears). He sucks--he
drops passes all the time, and he gets berated every week on the talk
shows in Chicago. Everybody agrees that the wide receiving corps in
Chicago is weak (and still Lovie Smith won't play Hass or Ball). But Berrian
still gets to play, along with the more successful, but also stone-handed
Musim Muhammed, who is much slower. The Bears have a losing record
this year because their offense sucks--their passing game is weak, and
their running game, behind Cedric Benson, who also sucks, makes them
lose games. Of course, everybody blames Griese and Grossman.

Why don't you post the 40 times of the all-time great recievers? Lots of
them don't have really fast 40 times. I guess you could make the
argument that after they lose their speed, its all their experience and
game savvy that makes them successful. But you won't, because that
negates your argument.

It's so easy to shoot holes through your posts. Do all those black "speed burners" make it to the NFL and become superstars? No. Are the best players in th NFL the fastest? No. Jerry Moss, for example had "David Ball-like" speed, stats, and background. Was he a top 50 speed demon? No. what happened there? And why are so many black players drafted high that are not fast?

And if speed is the main desire why are fast white players not put ahead of slower black players. Sure you named a couple of white players like Jones and Kasper that were fast but there are plenty of white guys with better times then black players, and the numbers to back it up, that are now selling car insurance. It's a clear double standard.

As for white players in baseball not being among the fastest players that is all pure racial slotting. White players are either sluggers, pitchers, or out of a job. Is Scott posednik some kind of physical freak? No he was just one of the few white guys who got through. There have to be thousands more like him. I played ball with guys that were as fast as any black players. They're all engineers now. Wonder why?

1.First the 4.2 you claim in High School are not there dude, because these same players at the NFL combine RUN 4.4.iF YOU BELIEVE THEY RUN 4.2 you are pretty stupid.
2.The forty time is a joke anyways they should make them run it with there pads on and since football is a game of 4-quarters run it 10-times with 30 seconds rest in between then take the average that would give a better judge who would be faster during the game.
3.I have coached football for over 10 years what i see as the main promblem is black kids more than not develop or age faster than the white kids which makes the coaches, parents and white players think they can't compete at the skill players and don't try to go as far.But what the parents should do is hold there kids back a grade. Also these scouts if they were smart would also see this and know that the white kids are going to get better were as the black kids pretty much allready top out.
4.Well you want to come on here and tell us that whites are slower due to their genes well you do know that whites score higher on IQ test, dominate in strength sports, whites are mentally tougher look at your special forces in the military if you don't believe.
5.The bottom line is football is just not about some speed on a track for 1-forty yard sprint if that is the case why do most of your top High School football team's in any state happen to be mostly white. It's because of the things mention above are more important.
6.I also have a other question for you what do Barry Sanders,Jerry Rice,Emmit Smith,Jerome Bettis,Mike Irvin,Steven Jackson,Shaun Alexander,Earl Campbell,Franco Harris,Terrell Owens beside they are some of the NFL best players none of them ever ran below a true 4.5 forty yet they were give all the time in the world to become great.Edited by: a-train

Chad Johnson scored a 15.When the best playerscan score low, and the worst players can score high, the test's be proven irrelevent.

ok, here goes.

{1} it's great that high school combines are open to everyone. i'm happy to hear they (caste worshippers) haven't erected huge signs saying "NO WHITES/NON-BLACKS ALLOWED"...not yet anyway. my point is that white/non-black athletes AS A RACE/GROUP dont have the same chance of, say doing really well at one of the combines, as their black counterparts. i argued that thisis because of the huge difference in the emphasis on sports, between the two races (im going to compare white to black for brevitiy's sake, i do realiz etheir are other non-black races that also get screwed). i believe the difference in emphasis of sport between the two races, is a result of a false media driven perception that since the original black sport pioneers like Owens, Robinson, etc etc, were fantastic athletes, ALL blacks MUST therefore be superior athletes. this is the crux of my argument.i believe thatthis false media assumption has directly and negatively changed the landscape of american sports over the past 50 someodd years. the lanscape has changed from one that allowed and encouraged whites to compete with blacks in EVERY position, to one that now gives the benefit of the doubt to blacks when it comes to the "skill" positions EVERYTIME, and more so, actually ridicules/questions white athletes who have the nerve to try to compete with the black "super" athletes. just think about how muchthis has reduced the white talent pool specifically for football. the "overwhelming majority" of highschool football players in the country might be white, but the overwhelming majortiy of those players dont take themselves or their athletic careers nearly as seriously as blacks do. they know better. society has taught them to "know better". their parents temper their nfl dreams by reminding them that Riggins was the last good white tail back, and that was 20 yrs ago. sadly, their own white head coach takes the football away from them and tells them to go run drills with the safeties never the CB's or TB's, because he'll be damned if he's the only coach in the district not starting a black TB. why bother dreaming the big dream? why bother going all out, year round and adding those extra 20lbs of muscle that scouts love to see? why bother learning how to cut like reggie bush, when u know your future isnt in running the ball, its in blocking for the blacks that do? the skepticism that young white football prospects face in america is the reason we dont see more white kids running a 4.4 forty. don't you see tech? by the time your all inclusive scouting combine comes along, it's already too late. the white kids never learned to compete. they were saddled and steered away from the glory and taught to be happy with the Oline or occasionally playing LB or safety. they never ran a 4.4. theyve already been indoctrinated into the caste system. they know their roles. they know their chances or lack thereof. they "know better". at that point, their only question is, who the hell is John Riggins?

{2} here's my take on the theory blacks are genetically born better athletes than whites. ok, i believe in the theory of evolution and the process of natural selection. and so does most of american society and definitely the american media and educational establishment. assuming that natural selection is valid, if blacks are indeed "superior" to whites/non-blacks thenthrough the evolutionary years, blacks would have come to dominate the human landscape.ancient blacks, if indeed superior would have out competed, and out reproduced their white counterparts. assuming everything else is equal. equal intelligence, creativity, etc etc. the superior black phenotype would have come to dominate the human species. think about it, especially in terms of "ancient times'. if blacks were superior and on top of that, the "original" men (the oldest human skeleton is black), then where are the great black empires? why didnt blacks use their physical superiority to conquer white peoples? why didnt they colonize all parts of the world? if anything, history showsthat whites/non-blacks have dominated human history. if blacks were really superior they would have reproduced in larger numbers and they would have dominated ancient whites, at a period in time where "physical prowess" was of utmost importance. instead, the converse is true, and blacks have been dominated and enslaved by, well....umm....pretty mucheverybody. if youre going to go into "genetic superiority" be prepared to explain why, although"superior", blacksdid not dominate whites. according to natural selection, and assuming there is a genetic superiority, they should have. alas, they havent and its pretty safe to say they never will. buti could be wrong.

{3} i referenced the wonderlic test scores to show that on average blacks have crappier test scores than whites and since it is a BASIC intelligence test, maybe that shows that nflblack football players, on average, have dedicated themselves completely to football, not academia. such is our current environment. black athletesare allowed, expected and encouraged to care about football and NOTHING else. doyoung white football players enjoy the same leeway?

cheers.

Mike Hass bought the Belitnikoff award to the table, and David Ball brought several all-time records to the table. Far more than their counterparts.

The Biletnikoff is irrelevant. The winners produced stats that were accumulated against lesser athletic talent than they'd face on the next level. It's a meaningless trinket that my hold some sort of relevance in a eyes of naive simpletons, but pro scouts know better. Their wisdom and knowledge of the pro game runs much deeper than that. They are cognizant of the fact that the pro game is on a whole different plane.

Andre Ware, Ty Detmer, Desmond Howard, Gino Torretta, Charlie Ward, Rashaan Salaam, Chris Weinke, Eric Couch, Jason White, and Troy Smith all won the Heisman since '89. They didn't exactly turn the league on it's ear either. Also, Marcus Harris won the Biletnikoff in '96. He never played a down in the NFL either. The pro scouts didn't feels his ability would translate to the pro game. He was black, by the way.

"The dynamic of speed, not race, is what makes the difference at the skills
positions."

If its all about speed, then why do they call them "skill" postions? Why not
call them "speed" positions?

If you drive on the parkway, why do they call it a parkway and not driveway?

What difference does what they call it make? Edited by: Texas Tech

BTW, what does it matter, posting the "top" wideouts (really just the ones that get to start)?

Well gee, I suppose I could try to guess how good they are, but the absense of a Magic 8 ball forces me to use a more logical approach, i.e. actual production, and yards gained? I think available stats are a very capablebarometer to help gauge someone's ability.

Why don't you post the 40 times of the all-time great recievers? Lots of
them don't have really fast 40 times. I guess you could make the
argument that after they lose their speed, its all their experience and
game savvy that makes them successful. But you won't, because that
negates your argument.

Sorry to bust your conspiratorial bubble, but no I didn't not post the times of the historical greats because it would negate my argument (as if). I didn't post them because I don't know them. I posted the current players because I know their times. That makes sense, no?

Either way, the game evolved from power-centric to speed-centric, but the old times are pretty useless.

I don't recall ever saying the every "black speed burner" made it to the NFL and become superstars. WhatI do recallsaying was that scouts, who've been intimately involved in the game for decades, PREFER speed. They PREFER a speedy guy with ability than a slow guy with ability. It's not rocket science.

Slower players do fall through the cracks, and do become successful all the time.. but they have a much taller hill to climb than those with ability AND speed.

And if speed is the main desire why are fast white players not put ahead of slower black players. Sure you named a couple of white players like Jones and Kasper that were fast but there are plenty of white guys with better times then black players, and the numbers to back it up, that are now selling car insurance. It's a clear double standard.

They're not put ahead for the same reason other faster black players aren't ahead of them.. because pro scouts, utilizing decades of intrinsic knowledge ofthe sport have determined each of those specific players lacked the tangibles and ability necessary to succeed on the next level. Shawn Crawford, Jeff Capel, Maurice Greene, Justin Gatlin, Dwain Chambers, Renaldo Nehemiah, etc were all failed football players. Their speed got them a look, but their ability couldn't take them to the next level. They had nothing else to seperate them from other players. There are thousands of people, white and black, who feel they're good enough to play professional athletics, but the decision-makers feel otherwise.

Wonder why?

I'm sorry, but that's just silly. There is no race-based "slotting" in baseball.. it's called ability-slotting.According to CasteFootball, 98% of college starsare white. They have every opportunity to prove themselves in the middle infield, and centerfield just like all the rest of the speed guys in baseball. The scouts and management heirachy have just deemed the hispanic players better.

You lost all credibility with this comment.
Pro scouts are idiots who respond to groupthink trends. This can clearly be seen in the proliferation of wide receivers in the NFL over the past 10 years who can't catch the damned ball. Sure, they're tall and fast. But that's meaningless when they turn upfield too quickly and let the football bounce off their hands. There is far less skill at the receiver position today in the NFL than there was in the 90's.

1.First the 4.2 you claim in High School are not there dude, because these same players at the NFL combine RUN 4.4.iF YOU BELIEVE THEY RUN 4.2 you are pretty stupid.

1. Unbelievable. I don't even know how to respond to this. You do realize they're DIFFERENT PEOPLE, right? You do realize that different people run different speeds, right? Are you trying to infer than someone in college automatically runs faster than someone in high school? I take it youalso don't believeSam McGuffie ran a 4.32 at the high school combines either?

When Casey Combest ran a 6.57 60m at the high school indoor championships his senior year, you know that he ran faster than the winner of the college 60, right? He never ran that in college, or ever again.Devin Hester ran a 4.33 40 inhigh school, and ran a 4.41 at the NFL Combine4 years later.

Jacoby Ford, the Clemson freshman who ran a 6.52 to win the ACC 60M, ran a 4.18 and a 4.19 40 yard dash in high school. That's also MUCHfaster than anyone ran at the combine. DIfferent people run different speeds.

2.The forty time is a joke anyways they should make them run it with there pads on and since football is a game of 4-quarters run it 10-times with 30 seconds rest in between then take the average that would give a better judge who would be faster during the game.

Yea, sure they are. I bet if white players ran 49 of the 50 fastest 40's, you'd think they were the greatest thing since sliiced bread. Look, when you take over the combines, you can institute that change. Until then, I'll believe the professionals know what they'redoing.

Okay, then what's the excuse for lack of production upon reaching adulthood. There's been an influx of "developed", adult European players into the NBA the past 10 years. Including Tony Parker, *5* European players were among the top 100 scorers last year. "Influx" = *FIVE*. Why is that? All we've heard over the past decade was the media's fantastic machinations of Euro-dominion. Yet the underwhelming result is five of 100.

They play basketball their whole lives. They've allowed themselves to become enveloped in NBA culture. No one tried to dissuade them from pursuing this dream. They start playing professionally in Europe at 17, then once they get drafted in the US, one by one they crap out bigtime.

4.Well you want to come on here and tell us that whites are slower due to their genes well you do know that whites score higher on IQ test, dominate in strength sports, whites are mentally tougher look at your special forces in the military if you don't believe.

Okay, so if find the racial disparities in some aspects life credible, why's it so difficult to swallow and digest the obvious fact that the disparity in speed is one of them?

5.The bottom line is football is just not about some speed on a track for 1-forty yard sprint if that is the case why do most of your top High School football team's in any state happen to be mostly white. It's because of the things mention above are more important.

White high school football teams excel because of their beefy offensive and defensive lines. Whites outnumber blacks 6 to 1 on this county, meaning there are 6 times as many 6-4, 280 pound linemen as black.Locally, they overwhelm physically smaller lines. The lines protect the quarterbacks, and open up holes for the runningbacks. It's the same reason Jimmy Clausen was projected to be a can't miss Number 1 draft pick, and never lost a game as a high school starter. The beefy linemen he had protecting him allowed the oppotunity to concentrate on the other facets of his game, i.e. delivering the ball to his receivers. He had a rude awakening on the next level. The college game afforded him no such luxury.

Bryant Salmon runs an 11.72 100M, yet he's putting up spectacular numbers. It has more to do with protection, and o-line than ability and speed.

6.I also have a other question for you what do Barry Sanders,Jerry Rice,Emmit Smith,Jerome Bettis,Mike Irvin,Steven Jackson,Shaun Alexander,Earl Campbell,Franco Harris,Terrell Owens beside they are some of the NFL best players none of them ever ran below a true 4.5 forty yet they were give all the time in the world to become great.

Barry Sanders had 4.3 speed. Steven Jackson ran a 4.45 at the Combine. Shaun Alexander's a 4.5 guy. Earl Campbell's 4.6 speed was appropriate for his era. Defenders get faster every generation. Reggie Bush admitted that his transition from college to the pros has been a struggle because of how fast the LINEBACKERS are. He made a living in high school and college running east to west, and turning the corner. He said that element of his game has evaporated because the speed of the pro game won't allow him to do it anymore. The game's changed.

Jerome Bettis was a battering ram who produced with power. Emmitt Smith was a north/south guy who was a product of his offensive lines at Florida and Dallas. It was painful watching him run in space because he easily got caught from behind. Michael Irvin's body control, hands, and power were the something extra he brought to the table to compensate for his lack of speed.

It's easy to pluck people from yesteryear, and point out that their speed wasn't a detriment in yesteryear's game. The game has changed, and the current crop of coaches and scouts have adapted accordingly.

TECH im still waiting for a response to my post (see below). good point on marcus harris. he played for wyoming right? i'm seriously interested in your thoughts. you sound like a smart guy and i do agree with some of the things you have written, i just think we have a different perception of the situation. either way, i enjoy your posts.

cheers.

ok, here goes.

{3} i referenced the wonderlic test scores to show that on average blacks have crappier test scores than whites and since it is a BASIC intelligence test, maybe that shows that nflblack football players, on average, have dedicated themselves completely to football, not academia. such is our current environment. black athletesare allowed, expected and encouraged to care about football and NOTHING else. doyoung white football players enjoy the same leeway?

cheers.

Both of you dumb asses are trolls and your arguments just feed the B. S. that the white athlete has to overcome from his own kind just to make it in a sport he is a minority in. Blacks don't knock each other they have an unwritten rule stick up for your own kind no matter how bad the might really be at their sport. So the hell with 40 times and all of those meaningless stupis stats. The fact is racisim and plenty of bias holds the white athlete down from coach to plyers to fans and even communities. It has been beat into society that blacks are better athletes, and many stupid whites and even you two have bought into this garbage. If you give whites an equal oppurtunity they will perform well at the skill positions in football because what the may lack in thugness they make up for with smarts and an understanding of the game that blacks don't have. The hell with the wonderlic you have to have football smarts Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have them and the chosen one Vince young does not it's as simple as that. I have been watching football for a long time and have wondered why is racisim not ok in society except in organized athletics and mainly the skill and speed positions in football. This is the 21st century blacks have made tremendous strides in athletics isn't it about time to let whites have an equal oppurtunity to play the positions that they most capable regardless of race. When this day happens and it will then all of us will have surely over come and made it to the mountain top where all can stay on equal ground.

You're overracting here buddy. I don't see any trolling in jonnyboy's posts, maybe differents opinions and points of view. But its his right.

Can't say the same thing on TTech though, but calling him a dumb ass and this kind of stuff will only strenghen his wrong thought. Just like people calling us racist when we talk about the caste system on other forums, we just think, "hey those dumb asses are just ignorant fools". The guy's arguments are flawed, and the better way to keep him from making them is with facts. not name-calling.
