It's a good thing the Pats play in a weak division.

Earlier in the game, Crissy was breathlessly stating how the Patriots' O-Line coach finally unlocked Marcus Cannon's "unlimited potential" and stated with a straight face that Cannon was now the Patriots' best lineman. WTF was he smoking? He looks just as bad as he always has. I guess Cannon's unlimited potential will have to wait until another day.
On the bright side, the Mahomes hype-train is done for now after a sensational game by Smith.

What an ass-kicking. The most surprising aspect of this game was that the Brady-Hogan connection was way off. Gronk was covered well by Eric Berry. Burkhead barely used, receiving only 4 touches.
The only positive (Amendola's 6-catch, 100 yard performance) was offset by his possible concussion.
Terrible start to the season, but it's only one game. I think our guys will right the ship next week and dominate the rest of the season.

I'm sure the Patriots will make the playoffs, but there was a lot about their performance tonight that the haters will gleefully absorb with relish.
On the plus side, Alex Smith showed why he's such an underrated quarterback who doesn't get proper recognition for being elite. The Chiefs' huge investment, both in draft picks and emotionally, in black quarterback (It's) Pat! Mahomes, with their plan to anoint him the starter next year, has now put egg on their faces. I hope Smith has a spectacular season and forces the Chiefs to choose between abandoning an elite quarterback or breaking their promises to a member of the Magical Race.

Right now, what I am annoyed at is the MSM putting forth a mediocre looking female to interview players after the game. If they are going to do it, go for broke and put a real hottie to interview the players after the game. F***ing PC culture. F**K Them!!!

As annoying as this game was, we've been there before. Chiefs beat Patriots in a high-profile game, talking heads start shrieking about how Brady is done and it's all over, blah blah blah. Brady & Co. shut them up last time, and he'll do it again.

I think they cost themselves a Super Bowl victory with that move. Kaepernick choked in the Super Bowl.
They went on to the win the Super Bowl that year (after the '14 regular season), so there's a long way to go for sure. But can't say I'm enamored with the rapidly disappearing White o-linemen, the pitiful nearly coal black defense, and the promotion (at least for this game) of Gillislee over Burkhead and Cooks over Hogan. Both Burkhead and Hogan were generating a lot of very favorable publicity leading into the game, but particularly with Rex it was all an illusion.

James White was on the field for 43 plays, Gillislee for 24, and Rex for 10. Gillislee had 15 rushes, the pint-sized White had 10, and Rex had 3.
Bad news for Eric Berry, possible good news for Daniel Sorensen. But given that Sorensen should have been starting two years ago and he's already 27 (must have done a two year mission), I don't trust Fat Bastard to do the right thing and promote him. But hey, he starts an all-White o-line this season so semi-miracles do occasionally happen with Andy.

Brady was way too conservative this game. Didn't hit Hogan, or Gronk with any vertical passes. Found Amendola a lot with the short to mid routes, but Brady never really took a chance down the field.
Interestingly, Hogan actually finished with more rushing yards than receiving this game, 3 rush for 17 yds, only 1 catch for 8.

Too many red flags on both sides of the ball, but it appears Edelman's absence will be a big factor all year, especially on 3rd down. We should know very soon, next couple of games, if the Pats can quickly turn things around, otherwise it could be a long season.
That affletic defense and the sumos on the O-line do not inspire much confidence at this time.

I thought the play of Amendola was vital factor in Patriots being in the game. I know they missed Edelman, but I can say when Amendola went out that was the ball game. Brady was lost without his timely receptions.
Gronk didn't look 100%. Amendola can't take a beating like Edelman. Cooks looked petty good. Dwayne Allen is worthless, as always. Burkhead will get his opportunities. Stephon Gilmore - lmao, he plays like a Buffalo Bill. Marcus Cannon gave up at least 3 sacks.
Unless he's gone soft, Belichick can definitely light a fire under this defense. Bringing in a few White backups is a sure fire way to motivate...

We can't sugarcoat it. It was a NIGHTMARE GAME which Don and others were hinting at. Even Kelce wasn't involved much in the passing game but his blocking was otherworldly. He is the BEST TE in the NFL although Greg Olsen deserves a mention. Gronk looked real rusty and perhaps he has lost a full step. I agree with all posters. This BS about Mahomes is hard to fathom. Alex Smith is one of the most consistently solid QB's in the NFL yet they are hollering for Mahomes. What precisely do they think this fat rookie will produce? It is called welcome to the new mediocre Chiefs era.
The biggest disappointment last night was the lack of connections between Hogan and Brady. As we know it is one game but I will fall back on my post Edelman prediction that they won't win the SB this year which isn't that bold of a statement given the fact it is hard to keep winning those suckers. They should make the playoffs though.
No need to add to the commentary about the D. Ninkovich and his leadership was obviously missed. The DB's looked clueless and LB Van Noy was awful. The guy should have his picture next to the phrase" taking bad angles."
I must be in the minority but I am not enamored with WR Brandin Cooks. He has spindly legs and looks like a turf mite out there yet he is deemed their deep threat savior? I am guessing most of his long gains with the Saints were crossing routes and the Pats offense is much different than the Saints. I just don't see what all the fuss is about this guy. At least Amendola played well but he got injured. It was not by the usual cheap shot head shot by a DB but without him they were rudderless.
The real elephant in the room and the main reason Brady has played so well late into his career is you guessed it Julian Edelman. Brady is the symbolic leader of the team but Julian was the heart and soul. Watch the Atlanta SB with the players with mikes up version and you can see Julian pushing his team every step of the way. And does anyone doubt he was the best football player on the field in the SB against Seattle?
Sal Paolantonio on ESPN last night said the question of whether Julian would be missed was answered emphatically last night.
They should rebound but I would not hold out for another Patriots miracle this season.

I agree with Quiet Speed. Amendola should have a great season filling in for Edelman. Danny already posted his 1st of many 100 yard games! Edelman is the more explosive game changer,/play threat of the 2.. Lets put some perspective on this, Edelman was given his chance to be the Pats star WR, and he exceeded expectations becoming a legit top-10 WR.. Amenola has alway's been the 4th, or 3rd WR with the Pats. Now he has his cjance to star, with Tom Brady feeding him. It seemed like James White just had to be rewarded for his play in the Super Bowl by being made the "main guy" running the ball even though he is unsuited for that role. Brady did throw some balls to Hogan, Gronk and Burkhead, but they were rarely open and Brady needed to put a little more arc on some of his throws. Where was the Chris Hogan who burned the Steelers for two TDs and 180 yards in the AFC Championship game? Maybe KC's defense was just too good and too pumped up for this game, while the Patriots quickly went flat when put under offensive and defensive pressure.
The Chiefs were a very strong team last year and with their improved o-line and some real weapons on offense and Alex Smith highly motivated and ready to sling the ball, they may be the team to beat. (For better or worse I expect Pittsburgh to have a very strong team too this season.) You'd think New England would have been super pumped up in a home game unveiling their latest Super Bowl banner in front of a national audience. . . A lot to worry about but a lot of time to turn it around.

sometimes in sports a team will jump out to an early lead, get a bad call and the avalanche starts and cannot be stopped. When you have goal line opportunities you put in the guys that can get it done, when the wrong guy is put in and does not get it doe it continues the avalanche. Back home here I drum in a local rock group and there are days when our first song is great, then one of us hits bad and it all goes off kilter and cant get it back..just gotta suffer through and come back better next time. Brady is the best, Gronk is the best, Hogan will be the best, Burkhead will be the "best" beast given the chance, Amendola is under apprecaited and is a beast. Patriots nation need not worry.....

I wasn't totally disappointed by the outcome of the game, after all I am a recovered Chiefs DWF. The Patriots were extremely disappointing. Who would have thought that missing a single lunchpail-carrying wide receiver would have such a huge effect. After all, their are plenty of supa-affletes that could plug right in, right? 
Most of the offense out side of Amendola was black-centric for the Pats, and the double-sumo O-line was not good. If Justin Houston was in a little better shape, poor Brady would have been on his back all night with the revolving doors on the right side of the line. And then once Danny was out, it was all over. Burkhead comes in for one play late, promptly gains 14 yards and a first down, and then it's off to the bench again. Pats promptly stall. Pats coal train defense was abysmal as all of us here at CF predicted.

Exactly right. I remember the Chiefs' o-line being complimented just once the entire game, but Crissie sure gushed about the human carousel Marcus Cannon.
