I figured I would start off the first descent result from the 2013 Indoor Season. Greg Cackett recently ran 6.67 twice to win both of his
heats over in England. He is only 23 and is a very powerful built sprinter. I think he should drop into the 10.20's this summer and maybe even dip a little below that. A good start to his season. Let' see what he does the next time out!

Aleksandr Shpayer or Russia won a meet in at home in a close race. His time was 6.73 which is ok to start the season off. He ran 6.63 last year and he hopefully will go faster this season. Russia is finally getting a few young male sprinters that have potential although it's far too early to know how far they can go. Their women sprinters are phenomenal. The hurdlers are outstanding too. The World Championships is in Moscow this August so I'm hoping we see some more new faces that rise to star status on the world scene.

Nick Batcha is a sophmore at Ohio State and a young guy I had never heard or. He opened up his season with a win in the 60 today in a time of 6.83 which is a nice improvement over his p.b. from his freshman year. I think he will go alot faster as the season progresses. Just another young college guy to keep on our watch list. I'm glad to see Ohio State give the kid a chance!

Hey White Lightning. Your knowledge of track and field is most impressive. Speaking of Russian sprinters what do you think Alexander Brednev will do this year indoors and out?
He is only 24 and never really ran any fast times before his 10.19 into a slight headwind last year.
Also is there a chance we will see an improvement in Rytas Sakalauskas from Lithuania? He looked great last year until that injury took over.

I like Brednev and he reminds me a little bit of Simone Collio of Italy although he is alot younger of course. I can see him getting into the 10.10 -10.15 range this year if he stays healthy. There are around 3 or 4 young Russian Sprinters I'm keeping a close eye on with Brednev at the top so far. It should be exciting with the World Championship of Track & Field being in Moscow, Russian in August! I can't wait.

Rytis Sakalauskas is an amazing talent. I thought he might break through last year but he took a bad fall at the end of the race and was injured. His season never really recovered after that. He even pulled out of the Olympics even though he lined up just to get the feel of it. What a shame. The fall reminded me of a crash by Christian Blum of Germany and he has tried for around 4-5 years to return to his 6.56 indoor form that year when he crashed. His body has just never seemed right since then. I hope Rytis doesn't have the same misfortune and that this summer he can get back to some more new personal bests. I've said many times. If Rytis can imporove his start, he will go sub 10. His start is way worse than Christophe but he has great middle and closing speed. Get Rytis some more explosive power and we will see our next euro sub ten!

Speaking of Germany, here is a quick article on many who believe will be the German Lemaitre. His name is Simon Schultz and he is still only
16 years of age! An incredible talent who runs this weekend and next! The one to watch at the moment other than Julian Reuss(Germany)who ran a 10.09 last year. Here is an article on Schultz.

Alexander Brorsson of Sweden opened up with a victory in the 60 in a time of 6.77 and also won the hurdles. Andrew Robertson opened his indoor season with a 6.73 win today. Nice start for him.

Ok track guys here on this board. Where are you guys? I know it's early but the track board is slow. I need your help. Thanks.

Jenna Prandini who was the California HS 100m champion 2 years ago, is off to a fast start this indoor season. She just ran the 4th fastest 60m time ever for University of Oregon.
Hoping for big things for her this year.

Great update jacknyc. I think I'm in love. She is so beautiful and man can this girl run. She also finished 2nd in the 200 and her teammate Laura Roesler won the 400. Oregon has such a great track team especially on the womens side!

Just noticed a new name on Arkansas' 400m relay team - Anton Kokorin.
He's from Russia, and has a 400m pb of 45.52.
He won that event at an indoor meet against Texas with a good time of 47.56.
He joins fellow sprinters, Marek Niit, Neil Braddy, and Travis Southard on Arkansas team this year.

I saw that to about Kokorin. According to his bio he was on the Russian 4 x 400 relay that won Silver in 2008. I'll have to look it up to confirm.
There is some obscure Potugese sprinter who just turned 20 named Briogo Atunes who ran a 6.70 a week ago. Maybe one to look for but I could not find a picture of him on the net. Portugal also has very young Carlos Nascimento who I believe ran a 10.19 last year with a slightly stronger than legal tailwind.
Not to brag but I briefly dated a girl from Bethesda , Maryland last August and she being from Porto, Portugal knew his family. Carlos I believe has an older brother who is a 10.4 or 10.3 100 meter guy but his name escapes me.

Let me correct a few things.
Kokorin was on the Russian BRONZE medal winner in 2008. Diogo Antunes is the name of the Portugese sprinter and apparently he IS white but finishing a dissapointing third was Carlos Nascimento in a paltry 6.89 which is horrible for a 10.1 sprinter with a lot of potential.

Another young guy to watch out for is Julien Reus of Germany. At 24 he is within striking distance of going sub 10! He ran a new personal
best last season of 10.09 seconds! He is only 5'9 and man is he explosive. He has a p.b. in the 40 of 6.59 and in the 200 of 20.33! Watch this kid close this season. I'm hoping he can set new personal bests over all three distances. Here's a quick article on him.

I believe Julien's better days are behind him. If we want to see some young Bavarian talent on the rise look for Patrick Domongala and possibly Alexander Psechera to make some noise.
I am not here to say 10.09 is not talent but Reus has a notorious history of injuries and it seems he has gotten injured every season since his junior season 7 years ago. I wish him the best but he may have lost his window. I think this is the year of Gemilli and the rennaisance of Christophe Lemaitre who I hear has put on between 6 to 8 pounds of muscle. Lemaitre's indoor meets are limited this year but I could see him running a 6.49 at best and at least a pb of 6.53 at the worst.

Welcome to the board Bruce. It's great to have you here. I agree that Domogala has alot of talent. There are quite a few young germans and russians I'm keeping an eye on.

As for Reus, I agree he has battled injuries similar to Chirstian Blum, but I still see the potential there. While there is no time to waste at 24 years of age, if he remains healthy, he can dip under the mark. He first has to show more consistant times in the short spring. He is a good 200 meter runner but due to his short strides I see him being more of a 60/100 meters specialist. He has a great start and I'm hoping he can get even faster this year. He reminds me a little of a retired Russian Sprinter from years ago named Andrey Yepishin.

Lemaitre is looking good so far but we will have to wait and see how that new found muscle affects him. I'm hoping for another break though
year like two years ago. He is the cream of the crop as far as euro sprinters go.

I also hope this is the year that Ramil Guliyev can return to form. What a natural talent and he does it with little or no drive phase. Incredible top end speed though. I wish this guy good health and better coaching!

I hope it's true that Lemaitre has added 6-8 lbs of muscle, and we will see a renaissance from him. His top end speed has never been in question, but the first half of his race is terrible. So how he performs in the short indoor races will be a strong indicator of whether he will improve in the 100m this season or not. Fingers crossed.

I agree that this could be an even bigger break through year for Gemili. He's young and new to the sport and coming off a great season. He seems likely to go sub-10, but obviously that goal is easier said than done.

Guliyev has the potential to be sub-10, but his form is really atrocious, and he doesn't seem fully committed to the sport.

As for Reus, let's see. He had one really great race last year, but otherwise didn't do much; which seems to be the norm for the German sprinters.

The indoor season is usually fairly accurate in revealing how guys will perform in the outdoor season. So we should get a taste soon for what lies ahead for the outdoor season.

agreed ,
havent heard anything about him gaining muscle ,only talk ,will see.
had same discussion last year when added some meat ,
but wasnt very functional .
needs to add to strength and explosiveness and show
finally lifting seriously that of benefit to his sprinting .
the correct balance ,especially if more naturally inclined .
onwards and upwards .

Saw the name of Shane Crawford from a meet in Florida. He was the Big 10 100m champ at Purdue, with a best time of 10.18.
He came 2nd at 55m in Florida with a time of 6.34.
Nice to see he is competing post-college.

Jeremy Wariner opened up his indoor season yesterday over 200 meters winning in a time of 20.99 which is not too bad. He won the race by over a half second over the 2nd place finisher.

Martin Keller of Germany won a meet today in a nice time of 6.72 seconds! A good improvement over his last time out. Verena Sailer of Germany opened her season with a big win in he fastest opening time ever for an indoor season. She won in a super fast time of 7.20 with is 8/10ths of a second under the qualifying time for the Indoor Champs. Way to go Verena. Christian Blum aslo won in his race. Here is a quick article from that meet.

I'm pumped about Michael Tumi opening up with such a fast time. It shows with out a doubt that he should easily dip into the
6.50's range this season which bodes very well for the outdoor season this summer. Expect a huge new personal best as long as
this guy stays healthy.

I really love Verena Sailer too and I'm hoping she can finally go sub 11 this season.
