Probably. He didn't get this much of an opportunity in Denver, but they brought in new running backs literally any way they could at the end of the season. Free agents, draft picks, all to bury Hillis. While I'd like to believe that he's shown enough to lock down a starting job for at least next season (he has), I've seen enough nonsense in the NFL to think otherwise.
I'd like to be channeling my inner Pollyanna on that one.

I think it will depend on Hardesty's knee healing. While I think Hillis should have the inside track to be the starting tailback. If he were to barely crack 1k or fall short Holmgren could state that Cleveland needs a Dunn to Hillis' Alstott. If the Cleveland defensive end had been caught on the second pick 6, Hillis would have probably gotten very close to or passed the century mark. Hillis was starting to rip big gains on the tiring Saints defense.

The Cleveland Browns are the talk of the NFL after defeating two top-tier teams in two straight games against the New Orleans Saints and the New England Patriots.
They have done this with a combination of trickery, a solid running game behind Peyton Hillis and consistent quarterback play by Colt McCoy.
One thing that still stands out is their passing game.
Tight end Benjamin Watson leads the team in receptions and yards followed closely by Hillis in second.
Their top wide receiver is not even a starter in Chansi Stuckey.
Consistent quarterback play by McCoy should help the receivers develop throughout the remainder of this season, but as of right now the Browns only have one deep threat at receiver and that is backup tight end Evan Moore.
Moore is a converted college receiver due to his size at 6'6" and 247-pound frame.
Receivers are not traditionally that big, but Moore's size poses a heavy advantage over the average height of defensive backs, which is 5'11".
McCoy can literally just throw the ball up in the year and let Moore use his height to his advantage as was seen on Moore's lone reception in the victory over the Patriots where he went up for a sideline pass and came down with it inside the opposing 5-yard line.
In his first game back from sustaining a concussion in Week 6 against the Steelers, Mohamed Massaquoi hauled in four passes for 58 yards and looks to be benefiting from consistent QB play with Colt McCoy.

That is a blistering 21.9 yard per catch average which ranks second in the NFL among all other receivers who have 10 catches or more.
Also, of his 10 receptions, eight of those have gone for over 20-plus yards which means that 80 percent of his catches have stretched the football field vertically.
The Browns do not have much of a vertical threat on offense right now, but Moore is their best weapon in that department and that should be utilized more often in order to keep the defense honest and to not stack the box trying to prevent Hillis from running the ball.
With what seems to be a consistent quarterback, in McCoy, in place perhaps receivers like Mohamed Massaquoi and Josh Cribbs (who was just announced to be starting opposite of Massaquoi now) can further develop their games.
In the meantime, Moore should be placed on the outside as a receiver to give the Browns a vertical threat mismatch for the last half of the NFL season.

I honestly think that if the Browns win out they can make the playoffs. All their division foes lost this week, and have semi-hard schedules. The Browns are capable of avenging their losses to the Ravens and Steelers, and defeating the other less-than-superbteams coming up. Their game against the Steelers is their last, don't be suprised if the playoffs are on the line in that game. If they use Moore as a starting WR, and the defense can continue their good play minus all the should have-been-sacks and blown coverage, they could suprise. Peyton Hillis in the Playoffs would be icing on the cake for this season!

Well if they radically change their game plan like yesterday, maybe not. I don't understand why Mangini went away from running Hillis late in the game. Also, they could have beat the Jets if that afrolete would have simply took a knee or gone out of bounds instead of getting the ball stripped while doing his best Michael Jackson impression.

I know. That was one of the most frusrating games to watch. I think that Mangini came into the game knowing that the Jets expected run, and was determined to suprise them. But Hillis did well in the first half even though they knewe it was going to him. The should have stuck to the run, maybe added some twists to keep the Jets on their heels.
The Browns defense couldn't stop the Jets on third down plays in the second half. Losing Fujita early in the game to injury hurt. And of course the Brownsstill could have won except for the bonehead fumble in overtime when they were in field goal range.

Nice...thats good news. Now they have two italians at Safety...Ray Ventrone and Sabby Piscitelli. If they become a starting safety tandem they should be nicknamed The Hitmen!

Hmm, something other than Italian pejoratives would be nice.
well, some fans are not completely brain washed (not including the poster of the first comment but they blasted him for it) and are happy about Sabby's pick up hoping that he will turn into another Matt Roth: a player unwanted by their team who came to Cleveland and is living up to his potential. Sabby definitely has the size, the speed and if the change of scenery is good for him, that could be something to be excited over!

I'm kind of starting to like these Cleveland fans.
Yeah they are way better than the few Bucs fans posting about Sabby. How many time can you bring up one messed up play? If defensive backs never made mistakes then we wouldn't have quarterbacks routinely throwing for 3 to 4 k a season. There are 5 games left and 4 quarterbacks are already over 3300 yards. 10 quarterbacks threw for over 4k last year and 19 total threw over 3,000. I guess none of the dbs facing those guys made any mistakes.

Sabby'll play this weekend and I don't think his play will be confined to special teams. Mangini doesn't pick up guys just for that. Looks good.

Keep Delhomme in. Jut give Peyton more carries in a two back set. Quit ramming him straight up the middle against a stacked defense.

What you guys fail to acknowledge is that Wallace has "unlimited" potential. If given 10 years as a starting qb he may be able to pull together a decent season.
I'd like to see Wallace in there also. The threat of a running quarterback helps the running back immensely, especially when you have no receivers. As soon as a defense sells out to stop the run, you fake the hand off and run a boot leg for 30 yards. At this stage of his career, Delhomme can't pass or run, and he's mastered the devastating pick 6.Edited by: icsept

I just went outside, and damn it's darn chillyy! I didn't see any stars in the sky, but we got Peyton anyhow!
The Browns have a good, half-White defense, obviously a great running back, and a good o-line, though the two sumos who start are sub-standard. What they lack is a good quarterback -- hopefully Colt McCoy can develop into one -- and, especially,receivers. Evan Moore was out with an injury today, which made the ineffective Cleveland passing game that much more feeble today against Buffalo.
The Brownsneed to develop McCoy, switch Moore from TE to WR, and sign a good free agent WR or two. Put a balanced offense around Hillis and the Browns can be a playoff team in '11.

well the two sumos being on the right side by themselves makes it much harder. If they had a decent rt, he and the center could mask the right guard's deficiencies, instead they are on the right side and it is pretty hard to hide their poor performance. It would almost be better if they had two sumos at guard and good play from the tackles and the center.
So along with converting Moore and picking up some talent at wide receiver it would be nice if they at least picked up a very good right tackle. There are tons of good white tackles that fall in the draft. Plenty who never get a real chance to prove themselves, like Zach Strief for the Saints. Actually if there was a way to get him for the Browns that would be a great move. The Saints have 4 tackles and are developing a new sumo. Strief has no future there except in jumbo packages. He has proven to be great at lt as well as rt and has game experience and filled in fine each time at both sides.
I just hope they keep Mangni for one more year, because if someone like Gruden comes in, Hillis will have a reduced role, and the offense will be pushed back by a few years. The OC needs to go though.
