The 49ers head coach reportedly said at his press conference yesterday that if he focused just on acquiring players of good character, he would "end up with a lily-white team that doesn't beat anybody.''


According to this blog, the 49ers subsequently erased Nolan's racist remarkfrom the transcript. Read the comments aboutwhat he saidon the blog. Some are upset that Nolan insulted blacks by disparaging their character, but no one thinks he insulted white athletes.

Unreal and typical at the same time. People always take the black side on things like this. You can hardly ever be considered racist toward whites, no matter what you say.

That kind of remark insults everybody. Look at what it says about him and how he views black players and white players. This is the kind of remark that shows there is a caste system and how it works. I can only hope the remark reserfaces and is widely read.

Maybe this is why Drew Bennett signed with the Rams...

A team consisting of nothing but good white football players with great character would have little trouble dominating teams filled with over-hyped affletes of poor character. It happens in high school and small college play all the time why would the NFL be any different?

Unreal commment. Obviously this guy(Nolan) has no self- respect and all of his players(black and white) should be offended by this comment. Maybe he should concentrate on more fully representing the city of San Fransisco on his team..go find 53 gay players to put on his roster.

I've been trying to come up with a name for an award that we could give each year for the most buffoonish statements made about white athletes. I haven't had any good ideas.

It's early on in 2007, but Dick Vermeil and Nolan are leading candidates for the ignominious award. I admit I'm just speculating, but those remarks by Nolan resulted in an unintended backhand at blacks while he fully knew that there was a slight towards whites in the statement. However you look at it, he doesn't hold white athletes (ones with good character at least) in high regard.

I guess he prefers the coal black team that wins a handful of games in the leagues weakest conference. What a dumbass!

This is exactly how the people running our professional sports think. Did Vermeil, or Nolan, or DeBerry, or Hornung, or Bowden ... make that statement.
The average NFL executive seems to believe that blacks are ignorant criminals but they sure are better ball players than whites.

This is why I am so pessimistic about the Caste System ever being overthrown. Guys like Nolan (who was handed his career by virtue of being the son of long time NFL coach Dick Nolan) are the ones who will be making the decisions regarding the abilities of, and regulating the play time of, the few white players who make it past the Caste System's outer layers and into NFL training camps. The only way that white players will be judged fairly in the NFL is for there to be completely different people running the league. Until then, guys like Matt Jones and
Brian Leonard will have to put up such fantastic numbers at the combine that they can't be ignored, and then be virtually mistake-free in their play once they are selected by an NFL team. Despite this, they will still be held to a different standard, never given the credit they are due, and susceptible to an "upgrade" by a more "athletic" player at any time. I wish it were different, but that's just the grim reality of the situation.

Utterly sickening. I wish this total prick would get punched in the face. He deserves it. You guys are absolutely right. This is precisely why we have a Caste System. It's people who think this way that have created, perpetuated, and maintain the Caste System. And everyone else is too ignorant and lazy to see through it. This is the type of person who must be permanently ostracized. His career should be destroyed. He should never have another job in sports- ever. No coach, GM, or owner should be allowed to talk this way without being thrown out on his ass like a belligerent drunk at a club. Period.

Let him hate on his own race. Good for him and San Fransicko. The team sucks, the city sucks and yes, most of the men there suck too. Boise State proved that "overachieving" whites will beat afro-leats every time.

Nah, not that severe in this case. That should be reserved for the black guy that recently beat up two old white women, and other wretched savages like him. (And I don't mean that as a racial slur. He is literally a savage.)
