I just walked through the hotel lobby where I am staying and some black guys were crowded around the TV intensely watching the game, I sauntered up and asked: "have the Mavericks won yet!"."Hell naw!" one of them said, I smiled and walked away. Imagine the stress of the black race right now, a bunch of black superstars together on the same team, playing their game, and it can all be spoiled by one big ass kicking white guy.

Haha. Post of the night by jaxvid. That is some funny sh**! We have heard it the other way for years now. Even decades. Time to turn the tables. Dallas is up by 8 at the moment and we are late into the 3rd quarter. Let's bring it home boys. Don't let up. Put Miami away and let's go win this thing in their house and then take a picture. The faces on the players and the fans would be priceless!

By the way. Note to all basketball fans. Dirk Nowitzki is for real and he is not playing around. He is a true superstar despite not having shoe contracts or commericals.

One last thing. LEBRON SUCKS ASS!Edited by: white lightning

Officiating is the only thing keeping the Heat in the game. This should be a blow-out, but it's close.

I hate Wade and Haslem even MORE, these two have gotten big in the head ever since their GIFT in 2006. Nothing would please me more than seeing Dirk get back at these two jerk weeds.

Haslem is no doubt a good defender, but his defense on Dirk is highly exaggerated.

My prediction of my score is going to be close. Marion should have pulled it out and used 24 seconds of the clock. Instead he turned it over.

Big 3 by Terry, it's in the bag!!!!

Yeah, Lebron has a triple double, but he's 1-4 FG's in the 4th period.

Dirk was a stud as always. He scored 29 points and made some incredible passes all while playing hard defense. He is such a great leader. Nice games by all of the Mavs.

Dirk played great as usual, but the win was made possible thanks to the rediscovered 3-point shooting of Terry, Barea, and Kidd. Just one more win baby, and a win for Dallas will be reminiscent of these 2 surprise NBA Champions from the 70's...

1975 Golden State Warriors (led by Rick Barry)
1977 Portland Trailblazers (led by Bill Walton)

make 2011 be for Dallas (led by Dirk Nowitzki)!!!!

Yeah, Dirk is a stud as always, but Jason Terry won this game for the Mavs. He had an incredible 5 minutes till the end of the game. He was in the zone like I have not seen someone in a long time(oh, I forgot Dirk almost entire post season). His last 3 was ridiculouos. Also, JJ finally got it going with his penatrations/attacking/ and of course big 3s as well.

The role players all earned their pay with key minutes and points. Old man Kidd also hits some big impact 3s. Great game and series.

The only laspes I observed were easly lay ups and cuts to the basket by Miami, albeit by great passing. But no monser or break away dunks, which means that the Mavs are playing great defense.

Haslem is no doubt a good defender, but his defense on Dirk is highly exaggerated.

I'm glad you brought up Haslem. When Miami had their horrible season not too long ago (I'm confident it was their season that led to them getting the #2 pick, and they selected Michael Beasley, of course), the MSM spent A LOT of time "propping up" Haslem! I remember them specifically saying that he's not responsible for them losing and that he's doing his part.

For a moment, let's say that was true.. I STILL felt that it was "odd" for him to be receiving all that effusive praise. It certainly didn't endear me to him.

As for the Dirk/Haslem "match-up".. Dirk is much bigger than Haslem and cannot be effectively guarded one-on-one by him. Haslem is only capable of providing a double team against Dirk... Joel Anthony is the one Miami big that can go one-on-one against Dirk.

P.S. -- Dirk is vastly superior to "Charles Barkley!!"

Great call WL, you pretty much called the score as is! We've been saying here all series, Dallas has not been playing up to their potential offensively and sooner or later, they were going to have a night like this. The 3s started falling, it was a great team effort led by Dirk as always, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

Let's now hope Dallas stays hot and can carry this offensive explosion over to Miami. Dallas must wrap this thing up in game 6 because winning a game 7 on the road is one of the most difficult tasks there is. They have momentum on their side, Wade might not be 100%, Lebron has been exposed as a fraud when it really matters in the 4th quarter. So, all the elements are in place for Dallas to put it together for one more game. It helps that the game will be on Sunday, giving them a good 2 days of rest.Edited by: foobar75

Just got back from Game 5 at the AAC. Man, was it cool to see so many Dirk jerseys around the arena. Even a few black people were wearing #41 and when's the last time any of us has seen that happen?? LOL I'm glad I am posting this instead of saying it as I am pretty horse right now. Anyway, big game by Dirk as usual & it was great to see a JJ sighting tonight. The Mavs really needed him to have a big game & he came through. Also, props to the Jet. Jason Terry went 8-12 from the field including that dagger that went in near the end of the game. I turned to my friend & was about to finish my "oh no" comment because he was guarded about as well as white on rice, but he drained that 3 in such a clutch situation. GO MAVERICKS!!! One more game!!

In other news, White Lightning -- dang, that was a smooth prediction. No one has even sniffed 100 all series & you almost get the entire 112-103 score correct. Very cool!

Also, to the people saying ESPN's coverage has been fair, I completely agree. Same thing goes with TNT & Charles Barkley's comments. It is really a treat to listen to FAIR coverage for awhile & I sure hope it changes some DWF's minds about whites playing basketball. My 8 year old son is watching every game & he sees what's going on. With Dirk being the main man on the Mavs, little kids all over the country can now have their own Jordan or Wade to emulate. It's a very cool thing ...

On some ESPN programs like "Sportsnation," they've mentioned that much of the public are probably thinking that Miami will win a Championship in the future (when they upgrade/solidify their bench), but they staunchly oppose Miami winning a Championship in the initial year that James and Bosh are brought in.

I think there is a lot of truth to this. Also, "new MJ" LeBron.. has never been "as popular," nationally, as the MSM would have people believe. Everyone doesn't buy into Bosh' "eliteness" - either. Imagine Miami if they had a Kevin Love, Chris Kaman or Bogut...

Upstate New York. Very few blacks around here. Real nice part of the country. Beautiful scenery and few minorities. Like we used to say "God's country".

Nothing Soft about this European

Nowitzki fan travels from Germany to Dallas

Nowitzki's drive for NBA glory inspires German basketball dreams

Nowitzki's drive for NBA glory inspires German basketball dreams
Published: 10 Jun 11 14:41 CET

As German basketball superstar Dirk Nowitzki nears the pinnacle of his sport â€" winning an NBA title â€" thousands of fans over the Atlantic are glued to their TV screens and cheering him on. Moises Mendoza explored Nowitzki's impact on the game in Germany.

Jonas Gerstenberger is only 13, but he's been setting his alarm clock for 2 am for much of the past week.

The young basketball player from Berlin has been walking up to watch Dirk Nowitzki lead his team the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA finals on German TV.

"If I'm not able to stay up that late, I'll watch highlights later on my mobile phone,"Â￾ he told The Local as he prepared to play in a tournament organized by the city's basketball federation this week. "They are so important."Â￾

With Nowitzki's team on the verge of a possible NBA championship this year â€" the 32-year-old has dominated the finals with Dallas leading the best of seven series three games to two against the Miami Heat â€" thousands of young Germans like Gerstenberger are watching from afar with bated breath.

As this would be the first time a German player dominates the world's best league, officials from the German Basketball Federation believe a championship ring for Nowitzki could also give a kick-start to the sport in Germany, where football, or soccer to North Americans, still dominates.

Humble beginnings

To understand Nowitzki's importance to German basketball, one has to trace his beginnings from the small Bavarian city of Würzburg to his position at the pinnacle of his sport.

An unusually tall boy from a family of athletes, Nowitzki caught the attention of former national team player Holger Geschwinder and the two began training together. After Geschwinder took him under his wing, the young Dirk quickly developed, ending up being drafted into the NBA as a 19-year-old in 1998.

There, Nowitzki slowly became a star and built up a following both in the United States and in Germany.

There have been other German NBA players â€" super-tall centre Shawn Bradley and Detlef Schrempf, who played forward for the Seattle Supersonics, among others.

But none have reached the stature of Nowitzki.

"When he comes back to Germany in the summers and plays here, the arenas are filled,"Â￾ said Christoph Büker, a spokesman for the German Basketball Federation. "There's just no other German player who has had the recognition that he does."Â￾

Players like Schrempf and Nowitzki have played a major part in basketball's increasing popularity in Germany, Büker said.

Today nearly 200,000 people are members of club basketball teams throughout the country. Twenty years ago, membership was just a fraction of that, Büker said.

The meaning of a title

Büker admitted it was impossible to quantify what an NBA title for Nowitzki would mean for German basketball.

Could it mean more exposure on TV and in newspapers, where basketball is still considered a footnote? Could it mean more people, inspired by Nowitzki's accomplishments, want to play ball?

"We don't really know,"Â￾ Büker said. "We'll probably get at least a short-term boost from it. We hope we'll see more people playing."Â￾

But even if the association doesn't gain new members, a championship for Nowitzki would demonstrate to the sceptics that German basketball has arrived, said Steffen Hamann, a point guard who plays on Germany's national team.

"In a lot of ways, he represents what German basketball is all about,"Â￾ told The Local. "He's a very down to earth person, very hard working and good and what he does."Â￾

Gerstenberger also takes pride in Nowitzki's basketball accomplishments.

The teenager said his idol's success had convinced him that he, too, can become a world-class pro baller one day.

"I'm going to make it,"Â￾ he said as he prepared with teammates for their next game. "That's my dream."Â￾

Phenomenal stuff Mavs and Mav fans! It's so refreshing to hear that so many young and not so young White fans feel a true connection to this Dallas team and the future HOF'er Dirk.

One can really feel that yes, it seems that most people and surprisingly the Media complex wants Dallas to win this series.
I maintain that the fans and the media have 2 different reasons, as the media has better copy for the 'Big 3' and mastermind Pat Riley (the Rat) to fail...and of course come back and eventually redeem themselves and win a championship.

This Colin guy on espn radio is all over the Lebron stuff and issues with team chemistry when you have 3 go to guys, blah, blah..
Bottom line is that Dallas is the overall better TEAM, Miami perhaps more athletically talented.
That seems to be the media's take. Is this true? Don't know, but Dallas is no doubt holding their own.

2 games to go for Dallas and I hope they can do it, especially on the home court of all these wanna be glamorous Miajami types who sport their beloved Lebron and Wade shirts.
They can then drive over to south beach and drown their sorrows in a $1000 bottle of Dom Perignon.
LOL

In all seriousness, Mavs are showing impressive resolve and courage. Berea and Terry really coming through big time in Game 5.
The team effort must continue to pull this off as Miami tends to play best with their backs to the wall. They are still a tremendously dangerous team.

James has has 3 pedestrian games in a row on the largest stage. Wade physical play is starting to take a toll and Mavs D seems to have Miami a bit flustered.
Can it continue? I hope so.

Game 6 could be it. No one in Dallas should want a Game 7 on the road.

Great series, tremendous team effort all around Dallas the last 2 games.

There is a video clip on Yahoo right now which shows Lebron and Wade mimicking and mocking Dirk's illness last night before the game started. This will turn up the Hate on the Heat nationwide before the start of game six. How disgusting to mock the other teams lone superstar who has been torching you the entire series. I saw Dirk at times triple teamed last night, so it really makes alot of sense to mock a guy who's killing you right now on the court. Congratulations White Lightning on your prediction of the score last night!
