FYI fellers, here's the (current) card for this Saturday's UFC 112 from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. ADCC founder by Sheik Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, (the son of the former United Arab Emirates president Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan) is a minority owner of the UFC (with Zuffa..the Fertittas & Dana White). Al Nahyan is an avid BJJ fan & holds a black belt.

i love watching maia fight and am pumped to see this. as good as silva is standing up and on the ground, if the fight touches the mat there will be a new MW champ.

NC831, I'm sure Silva is working hard on his takedown defense, and Maia on his wrestling. If it stays standing, Maia will get the same "treatment" that Marquardt gave him. However, (despite Silva's BJJ black belt) you're correct about if this goes/stays on the mat...Maia subs over-hyped Silva. Kinda like this...

Nice find, Dixie. I have never seen those submissions of Silva before and only had heard about them. That Chonan sub may have been the quickest sub and tap out I have ever seen.

This looks like a good card. I think I'll pony up the $50 and then invite some friends to watch the fights.

DD, I think I'll have to disagree with you on Silva being over-hyped. What he has done in UFC is pretty remarkable, actually. He has a 9 fight winning streak at 185 (plus the 2 205 fights) and has been holding on that middleweight title since 2006. And he's fought some good, solid fighthers along the way, including Dan Henderson, Nate Marquardt, and Rich Franklin, twice. So, whathever the UFC has thrown at him, he's beaten them handily. I'm convinced if his buddy Machida wasn't the 205 champion, he'd probably move up to 205 permanently and could win that crown, too.

So, he seems to be living up to the hype, same as the other great fighters like Fedor, GSP, Lesnar, and I'd throw BJ Penn in there as well.

Lastly, from I can see, he seems to be a respectful and humble fighter, and not your typical negro thug like Rampage we're used to seeing.Edited by: foobar75

FB75, fyi...I said Silva was "overhyped", not "overrated". Dana (anti)White, "Blow Rogaine", inc. are constantly saying he's the best P4P fighter in the world. I call that BS as Fedor is the best P4P and Overall MMA fighter on the planet...bar NONE! IMO, GSP & Penn (held WW & holds LW strap) are also better P4P fighters than Silva.

Silva has indeed tore it up at 185, BUT I'd like Hendo, Cote & Marquardt's chances at a rematch. Also, Sonnen has the G&P style & top notch takedowns to give Silva issues. Sonnen's smart enough not to stand/strike with Silva, & Anderson could NOT stop Chael's takedowns so his (Silva's) only chance would be via BJJ/sub.

At 205, Silva beat a one-dimensional, tentative James Irvin & a weak-chin'd Forrest Griffin (who didn't use logical strategy to take Silva to the mat...or even attempt to do so). Honestly, Forrest acted like he threw that fight, and it was his worst showing in the UFC. I think Machida is too allusive & unorthodox for Silva. Also at 205, I think Ryan Bader can give Silva some trouble (with his wrestling & heavy hands). Couture would pin Silva's lanky @$$ against the cage & pound on him as well. Strikeforce LHW champ Gegard Mousasi would give Silva fits too. I don't believe Silva could "clean out" the 205 division as he has at 185.

All & all, I'd LOVE to see Maia sub Silva on Saturday, but I predict a 1st round KO.

Man, Silva is a jerk. Yet everyone thinks he's "humble".

Fedor has the ability to do all of that showboating as well. But he doesn't, when he so outclasses his opponent he goes all out to end it quickly. He doesn't attempt to humiliate his opponent like that. Just watch his Zulu and Goodridge fights.

I hope Silva tries that tomfoolery with GSP. If they're fighting next I have full confidence that barring a miracle punch or kick that GSP will dismantle Silva.

I'm curious how Silva wins the fourth and fifth rounds without throwing any strikes and being warned by the referee to quit stalling/running away from his opponent (the first time I've ever seen that happen in UFC). Kalib Starnes did the same thing against Nate Quarry and got a 7 score for a couple rounds from one of the judges, as I recall.

I gave Maia the last two rounds, but I had silva winning the first three. Silva next fight is suppose to be against Victor Belfore. I would like to see him fight Sonnen though.

Boy, I feel like I owe DD an apology. Silva is truly an embarrassment, a classless fool whose disrespectful antics and clowning around tonight showed who he really is. I'm now actively rooting against his guy and I cannot wait for someone to knock his sorry a$$ out as soon as possible. He is not worthy of being a champion and someone needs to take care of business against him, but who?

I'd love for Dan Henderson to get a rematch, but he's going to be at Strikforce for a while, and sadly, I cannot think of anyone in the 185 division at the moment.

Nice mea culpa, foobar75. A Silva had a lot of people fooled as to him being a classy and humble fighter but obviously success has gone to his head and a jerk has emerged. Chael Sonnen who could be next in line for a title shot called Silva a "dirtbag" and says Silva speaks perfect English but doesn't respect the fans enough to speak it in public.Edited by: guest301

11/04/10 - Anderson facing backlash from Brazilian fans for Maia slurs

Anderson Silva is facing a backlash from fans in his native Brazil after ringside microphones for the UFC 112 broadcast of his fight with Demian Maia apparently picked up Silva taunting his opponent in Portuguese, using terms which are considered very offensive in Brazil.

Portuguese-language MMA forums have been abuzz with discussion over the insults Silva levelled at Maia at points in the fight. The end of the second round is when he is said to have been most offensive, allegedly telling Maia "Bate na minha cara playboy" ("Come on, hit me in the face playboy.")

Odd as it sounds, ‘playboy' is a serious insult in Brazil when levelled at certain targets. The stark class and economic divides in Brazil make for a wide gulf in status between the rich and poor. In Brazilian terms, a playboy is a hedonist rich kid, the product of a pampered upbringing who cares little for the poor and knows nothing of real life.

Anderson is also said to have cried out "Cade o Jiu-Jitsu?" ("Where is your Jiu-Jitsu?"Â) as Maia failed to get him to the floor, and also told him "Get up off your ass and get hit some more"Â when Maia dropped to his back looking to play guard.

According to the general tone on the major Brazilian MMA forums right now, Anderson has surprised and upset many of his fans with his comments. Maia told Fighters Only yesterday that Anderson had sworn at him during the fight but declined to go into detail about what was said.

That was a sporting and honourable thing for Maia to do but fans have already picked up on the comments are spreading them around the forums. So far this particular backlash has been confined to Brazilian fans but a poster named Gomes on Portal do Vale Tudo summed the feeling up:

"Wow, the guy went mad. American are usually super socially-conscious with this kind of discrimination, when they discover what he said, heads will fly. This guy has lost all notion of what you can do in a fight. This type of social/personal insult is the equivalent of ‘Iron' Mike Tyson saying "I'll f**k until you love me, bitch!"

It's just like Tiger Woods. Now he's back still pretending that he's a "good" person and ESPN is back to plastering his mug on the screen 24/7. His text messages tell a different story than what he and ESPN and the rest of the media is spinning.

FB75, no apologies needed partner. All "afroletes" have the natural tendency towards "TNB"...it's just some keep it bottled up better than others...but it eventually comes out (they just can't help it). Silva's a great fighter...WHEN he chooses to actually fight. I saw some his TNB vs. Griffin...dropping his hands & throwing (intentionally) sloppy jabs, etc. It reminded me of Roy YOnes. I hear Silva won't fight training partner Machida at 205, and apparently Dana (anti) White is PO'd at Silva & says he doesn't deserve a fight with GSP. ***At 205, I like Couture & Bader against Silva...they're too strong & have awesome wrestling ("Darth" Bader has very heavy hands). Honestly, I think (fellow afflete) Jon YOnes might whip Silva too (at 205). YOnes has good Greco-Roman (ala Couture).

aaron simpson might be the best wrestler in the UFC at 185. Sonnen though I think is more well rounded.

I can certainly see Sonnen taking A. Silva to the mat and beating him up. Silva loves it when you attack in stand up. Just lay back and he is lost so he clowns around to hide his confusion due to low IQ.

Oh yeah - awesome win for Edgar. Now we have 3 of the 5 belts in the UFC. Also, Machida is half white, half Asian and I don't mind him at all. Only the overrated A. Silva roils me and I think he will lose his belt to a superior white man very soon.

If Silva beats Belfort and Sonnen, he should be permanently moved up to 205. If those guys can't beat him, I don't want GSP to fight him. Too risky. Silva should only fight top 205 pounders at that point.

Ol' (anti)White has wavered from his usual quasi-caste position (regarding Silva). Dana admits he's hyped Silva as the best P4P MMA fighter (which is BS). (anti)White's still fuming mad at Silva's TNB at UFC 112.

Anderson Silva's got his next opponent. UFC president Dana White announced on ESPN's "Rome is Burning" that Silva will defend his UFC middleweight title this summer against Chael Sonnen. White dropped a real bombshell when he said Silva could be fired or cut from the promotion if he doesn't give his all in his fight with Sonnen.

Silva has been a punching bag for mixed martial arts fans since his bizarre win over Demain Maia on Saturday at UFC 112. Silva mocked, danced and chided Maia over the course of an excruciating five-round decision. That prompted White to walk away from the Octagon following the fourth round and toss Silva's UFC middleweight title belt at Silva's manager, Ed Soares, saying, "you give him the belt!" Yahoo! Sports MMA writer Kevin Iole said Silva made a mockery of the sport.

During the conversation with Rome, White said repeatedly that Silva may have had a mental breakdown in the fight. It's the only way he can explain what Silva did in the cage. That's all fine and dandy but White also said he was embarrassed, would make sure it doesn't happen again. He also said he wanted to make it up to the fans.

White told Rome that Silva will be cut from the promotion if he fights with the same style (2:30 mark).

"There's nothing that I can really do to him financially. He's contracted to get paid and he gets paid. It's one of those unfortunate things that happens," then White got animated and started pointing at the camera (3:20 mark).

"If this ever acts like that again in the ring I will cut him. I don't care if he's the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. I don't care if he's the middleweight champion. I will cut him, absolutely."
How outrageous is White's statement? Could he and should he cut a guy like Silva? What if he successfully defends his title again? A win over Sonnen would make it 12-0 in the UFC.

Sonnen may not be able to beat Silva but he should push the pace and make for a helluva lead up to the fight. Since the middle of 2009, he's been burying Silva in interviews. Check out this prefight conversation before UFC 109 (1:50 mark).
Sonnen guaranteed a verbal beating before the fight. He also had some choice words for Soares as well.
