jon jones does remind me of a silva but with a longer wing span and less power. he does seem like a decent guy though, and he is definitely a lot better then i thought he was.
on a side note i cant for the life of me understand why those elbows are illegal. but im not complaining, i put some money on matt hamill so those elbows were profitable for me.

WA33, Hamill definitely won via DQ (illegal elbow strikes). ***See below. Jones is talented, but would have trouble with Machida, Dan Henderson & Bisping. I don't know how well rounded his BJJ is (his standup & wrestling are solid). Hamill has improved his stand-up (over the years), but I'm not so sure about his BJJ.
NC831, those downward strikes were banned by Nevada Athletic Commission because one of their dumb@$$es saw a martial arts display with a guy breaking ice blocks with downward elbow strikes. Those bows are no worse than sideways throw elbows.

Light heavyweight contender Jon Jones overwhelmed Matt Hamill with pure talent and was well on his way to a surefire stoppage before illegal elbows from the top position resulted in his stunning disqualification.
Jones slammed Hamill to the canvas early in the opening round of their co-main event and dominated from there. Hamill, fully mounted, did everything he could do to cover up from the onslaught of punches and furious elbows. Most were blocked, but every so often, a crushing elbow found its mark. Referee Steve Mazzagatti appeared close to stopping the bout, when a number of illegal downward elbow strikes sliced open Hamill's face. Mazzagatti halted the action, not only to allow Hamill time to recover but also to deduct a point from Jones. Hamill, however, was a mangled mess and indicated that his left shoulder had been injured sometime during the bout.
"I couldn't defend with one arm, but I tried,"Â Hamill said, "and I can't move my other arm."Â
Doctors quickly tended to the wounded New Yorker, and after they examined Hamill, Mazzagatti took their advice and called off the fight. Just like that, Jones tasted defeat for the first time.
"I've heard that so many times, when you lose, you come back a better, stronger person,"Â Jones said. "Regardless of the outcome, God is so good to me and life is so great, and I'm just so grateful for being healthy and everything else. Everything happens for a reason."
Aside from the brutal beating administered by Jones while he had Hamill mounted, he dominated the bout on the feet up until the takedown. He confused Hamill with awkward striking, spinning elbows and sneaky side and head kicks.
Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer stated after the bout that instant replay was utilized by Mazzagatti to make the official ruling. It marked the first time instant replay was administered in the state for a mixed martial arts bout.

Add to that Danny Green KOing RJJ, British fighter Kevin Mitchell humiliating Breidis Prescott, Joey Abell KOing Butler (although ruled a NC), and Sergio Martinez exposing the highly hyped Paul Williams while losing a highly contested controversial decision which many felt that he won.
I was also happy to see both Alistar "overdose" Overreem and Remy Bojasky get KO'd in K-1. This is truly one of the best weeks in recent memory. It's a shame Dennis Hallman got KO'd by his black opponent in the closing seconds after controlling the fight for 3 rounds. Or else it would have been a clean sweep

Since you watch more MMA than I do, do you know how often a White fighter tries to destroy an affletes face with elbow strikes? I think it's rare. Yeah, Fedor is a beast of a fighter but I can't really think of anyone else.
It seems like White fighters' are "confident" in their fists in the ground and pound. If you're winning the fight and in command, elbow strikes just wreak of desperation to me. I think I remember reading a CF post a few years ago where another afflete was trying to destroy a White man's face with elbow strikes. In my view, there's something "deeper" going on here.

Alotta White fighters use elbows, but they're primarily utilized in the clinch. Kenny Florian has used some solid elbows to cut fighters & win the TKO (vs. Leben & Alex Karalexis). Alotta fighters use them in G&P as well...GSP (vs. Matt Hughes), Tito Ortize (vs. Griffin (1)), etc.
I like elbows (having trained MTKB), but only in close distance...ala in the clinch & G&P.

I totally agree, but in Reality, I would think a side elbow to the temple might have the potential to be more deadly to an opponent. I never understood why Pride FC would allow knees to the head of a downed opponent, soccer kicks and stomps but not elbows. It seemed totally ridiculous, but I guess it is more of a cosmetic issue. UFC and former Pride seem to have tried to do a lot to distance themselves from aspects of things that could cause it be associated with a bloodsport like JCVD movies. It is also amazing to me how affletes never seem to be able to control themselves and follow the rules.

I watched a trailer on tv of an episode where Jones got in some white guys face right before a fight. He was very angry and I am pretty sure he lost that fight if he's retiring.

Was that Matt Mitrione?Matt had beaten PEDcus' pal Scott Junk & "caused" a detached retina for Junk (as a normal risk of MMA). YOnes took it personal & got in Matt's face & threatened him....only to get his tomato can @$$ KTFO'd by Matt at TUF 10 Finale!

Good Riddance. Despite how they tried to paint him, it was obvious he never had any cardio or heart for that matter. He wanted to call it quits after his TKO loss to Schaub in the semi-finals, but was drawn back for one more fight where he was in his mind, going to teach a lesson to Mitrione. It seems like it was him who ended up learning the lesson though. That lesson, just cuz pro caste college and pro football said you were one of the WGA's, and you look like a big scary black dude to the DWF's, don't make it so. Edited by: Bear Backer

Looks like Matt Mitrione will square off against "Bimbo Lice" at UFC 113 in Montreal (probably in May). With Matt's size, heavy hands & jaw, I like his chances of KO'ing Lice. The card headliner would be the rematch between Lyoto Machida & Shogun Rua.
