Dang, I thought he pulled something on that last run. Kind of scary to watch. He's doing great! 22 carries for 122 yards!

They give it to Grady down close to the goal line and he fumbles. Stupid coaching.

Yeah, that was a really awkward fall. I actually sort of gasped when he went down like that. I was so relieved when he popped right back up. That would have sucked, having him pull a hamstring or something like that. He looked so quick laterally on that particular play, though.

I guess that's why you stretch before games.

How did Notre Dame score at the very end of the 3rd/ start of the 4th? I missed it...I'm guessing another fumble, the announcers said that Michigan had 8 fumbles or something. You have close to zero chance of winning a game with that many fumbles. Don't tell me it was Sam on the last fumble, was it?Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

Manningham ran a 4.59 at the combine and a 4.44 at his pro-day. Sorry to correct you, but I sometimes visit NFLdraftscout.com and have a semi photographic memory. I am a big Michigan fan this year too. But 4.59 was the same time Hass ran at the combine to basically disqualify him from playing WR in the NFL.

You might be thinking of WR Matthews for Michigan as the slow guy, the guy is like Anquan Bolden and runs a 4.7 or so, or RB Brandon Minor who is a 4.7 guy if I recall.

so looks like mcguffie had a great game, but due to fumbles by other players and a few interceptions they lost, i know it was raining but i don't recall mcguffie even coming close to losing control of the ball, looked like the best player on the teamEdited by: dwid

A bit tangential, but while eating lunch and watching the game at a bar & grill near my home with some other neighborhood guys, I overheard someone at a table with three older black men eating lunch say (when it was obvious Michigan would lose) "Don't give it to him, give it to that crazy white boy, damn it!"

Still racist, but you know, small steps.

The ghost of Elroy Hirsch inhabits his body. Finalllly there is white back who plays that style at a major college program. He is just getting his feet wet. He will be that more dominant in a year or two.

McGuffie is the most exciting back I have seen since Luke Staley. Kyle Bell(2 years ago) and Jake Sharp(last year) are the only ones even close. There is still no comparison. Sam can take it to the house on any play. I have rarely heard announcers give praise to a white athlete like that. They are acting almost like he is Barry Sanders in the flesh. It is so refreshing to see a white running back actually get the respect he deserves for a change. To do what he is doing as a true freshman is almost unheard of. We need this kid to stay healthy and make a serious run at the Heisman in the next couple of years. One last thing. For Sam to really be noticed on the national level, Michigan is going to have to improve. It doesn't matter what numbers you put up if your team stinks. The Wolverines have a long, long ways to go to just be average. That being said, Sam McGuffie is already by far my favorite player!

IF McGuffie don't suffer injury, there is NO possibility of him being screwed at the next level. Remember, he is only a true freshman and even if NotreDame defense ain't great, he was jaw dropping.

But the Rivals hate on McGuffie continues. I guess they must feel stupid now. Lunatics they are. Here is a mailbag article on blackpowerrivals.com, basically touting everyone for playing time except McGuffie before this game, it is still linked on the Michigan Yahoo website.

I hope this "recruiting service" starts to get scoffed at for the wackos/bigots they are.

I agree, this kid is special and actually reminds me of Darren McFadden, Joe McKnight or Reggie Bush with a little more power, but a little less of a second gear. Sam made something out of no blocking at least 5 times in the game. This kid is no cutback power runner like Jacob Hester, who is very good in his own right, but would struggle "without good power blocking" in the NFL. Sam will get his shot IMO in the NFL and they can't possibly make him a FB.

Sam has that "very rare" ability for any player to get to the next level, even with defenders coming at him in all directions right of the bat. Now he just needs to work on his leg drive. He only seems to break tackles while once in the second level of the defense once he is moving fast. Sam got hit at least a few times as soon as he touched the ball, he needs better blocking.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

After watching most of the game, I can see why some pundits say he doesn't have great size. He doesn't. However, people should not fixate on that, because size has little to do with his running style. He is an elusive, quick-cut runner with some end-of-the-run power to get that extra yard or two. He always seems to fall forward.

If he could put on a few pounds without hurting his speed or quickness, however, that would only be helpful for his future NFL prospectus.Edited by: PhillyBirds

If Sam can get to the 195-200 lb. range that should be good enough for NFL scouts. Reggie Bush is an inch taller (6 foot) and is about 200 lbs if I recall. Sam is similar to Reggie, but has more power to fall forward once moving fast, but has a little less of a second gear. And I didn't mean to harp on Rivals two posts ago as I always do, I just want Sam to slap that racist organization in the face by winning the Heisman one day!

Edited to add: The announcer said Sam was still 185 lbs., but I think he might be a little more.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

HAHAHAHA! i literally laughed pretty hard at that. i can picture them saying that.

Sam is the real deal, now Michigan needs to get him some blocking! Brady did well at times as a fullback.

Michigan should move Grady to FB. Grady has a lot of power, is a decent blocker and could get a couple carries there (instead of complaining for playing time like the overrated Minor) when they actually use the FB. But will Grady block for Sam in a deul option backfield when rarely used, or will he make a half hearted effort b/c he feels entitled to be the starting HB.

I just worry about all the complaining from Michigan's Junior tailbacks which Rivals was fueling in their Mailbag, uhhh I mean barf bag.

By the way...the above post by Giovani was very funny!

I think everyone fumbled the ball for Michigan except McGuffie, unless I missed it. Funny line by Charlie Wess speakingof his wipe out.

McGuffie looked great! I am once again able to wear maize and blue with some pride. I cannot remember a white back with his skills for some time. Even Luke Staley was a power guy. Maybe Craig James. When was the last time a white back played because he was a fast slashing runner???

Re: Michigan being bad this year may not be so bad for McGuffie, it will allow him to develop without the pressure of big games, the loses won't be the "white guy's" fault, and there won't be an urgency to switch to another runner.

It appears Rodriguez likes him, he certainly gives him the ball and with the other guys fumbling so much there is no way Sam is going to lose out to the other guys.

On a side note didn't Notre Dame seem pretty dark? I had been on their bandwagon last couple of years but not alot to cheer for right now. Michigan is even worse but they got that crazy white boy running the ball!!!!

Well according to the whitest teams thread Michigan and Notre Dame both start 11 whites this year out of 22 offense/defense. But Michigan has the white RB, so they get my vote. And Threet isn't playing bad IMO, it was the fumbling that cost Michigan this game. Threet looks quick and if he progresses Rich Rod might stick with him instead of a black option recruit. I am now a Michigan fan!

No way Michigan starts 11 white guys unless you count the kicker and long snapper. They got the QB (last year for a white QB under Rodriguez), the o-line, a RB, maybe TE, and one D-line man. The fullback NEVER plays and the linebacker once in a while. They look nearly all black to me, but I guess a few white grunts on the o-line is better then nothing.

Pure racism from the other black power sport's service; Exaggeration of the Sports Performance of Negros (ESPN).

ESPN showed highlights of the entire Michigan/Notre Dame game on College Final without showing either of McGuffie's two big plays. They also didn't list McGuffie's stats, only Threet's.

This is the recruiting service who ranked Sam 30th and called him basically tight hipped. They are nuts...Sam's 40 yard reception was a huge play. It wowed me and started to turn around the game for Michigan, before the other Michigan players fumbled again. ESPN showed zero plays from Sam...Gotta protect Luginbill's farce rankings I guess.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

I never count kickers or long snappers. When the season started, there was a possibility of 11 whites starting because some were fighting for positions, TE and SLB mainly. They both appear to have lost the battle and are not starting. I just updated their starters in the Michigan thread and these are the whites who started yesterday.
