Good to see Zylstra involved in the offense today; what a receiver!

McCaffrey played another good game. I would like to see better blocking up front, give him some room to work with. Sprinkling in better play calling will also helping with efficiency. One thing I do worry about his number of touches.

Good point. I watched most of the game and McCaffrey had little room to run. He got most of the rushing yards on sheer determination. That TD run showed his toughness and strength. He would easily rush for 100 yards each week if he had a better OL.
BTW, Morgan Fox played well today.

The Panthers got slightly whiter as they brought in white Hispanic kicker Zane Gonzalez to replace the very not white (and incompetent) Ryan Santoso.

A reliable kicker is extremely important, just ask the Vikings.

Sure do wish the Panthers brought in Chandler Cox to play fullback. He is leagues more talented than their current one and it would be nice to see three pale faces in the backfield together.

Just out of curiosity, what metric do we at CF normally use to delineate white Hispanics from non-white Hispanics? Ancestral background would make the most sense but that data is hard to come by, so is it just skin tone?

"Hispanic" is a linguistic classification (anyone whose ancestry is from a Spanish-speaking country is Hispanic) and not a racial one, though most media talking heads and DWFs treat "Hispanic" as a race, typically out of ignorance (for the DWFs) or for their own political agenda (for the media). There are white Hispanics, brown Hispanics, and black Hispanics. A snow-white Spaniard and a black Dominican are both classified as "Hispanic" though they obviously have nothing in common racially.

As for white Hispanics vs. non-white Hispanics, it's not so much skin tone as it is basic common sense. Anyone with eyes can simply look at Zane Gonzalez and tell that he's a white man. And they can do the same with Ryan Santoso and tell that he's not.

Another good way to tell is that white Hispanic NFL players are discriminated against and bashed by the media like any other white player, while non-white Hispanics are praised. Zane Gonzalez is considered "just another unathletic white kicker," Blake Martinez never gets credit for being a great linebacker, Tony Romo was labeled a "choker," etc. On the other side, non-white Mark Sanchez had excuse after excuse made for him by the media (until he buttfumbled and even they couldn't cover for him anymore), Aaron Hernandez was praised as a "diverse" hero (until he committed murder, then he mysteriously became white). Etc.

Excellent post. Another reason the term "hispanic" is meaningless racially and ethnically, is even though it is usually used to refer to and lump together those "south of the border" who speak Spanish, Portuguese is actually spoken more than Spanish in South America, particularly in Brazil which has a population of 184 million.

There are lots of Whites in Central and South America, in fact some countries are Whiter than the U.S., which is rapidly becoming a non-White nation (if the U.S. can still be called a "nation" in any meaningful sense).

Not to hijack the thread but the eyeball test also comes into play when it comes to any race. @Jerry Reb hit the nail on the head with his astute post. Best case in point is Sam Howell vs. Tyler Buchner - Howell looks completely white albeit he has a fraternal Korean grandmother - I think the media will treat him as such. Buchner is half Korean and has the obvious physical traits of an Asian and will probably get a "Linsanity" amount of hype if he starts for ND next year.

Yeah this is a great post! My wife’s grandpa is straight from Mexico but is 6’2, blue eyes and white as the wind driven snow. Despite living in the USA for 60 years can hardly speak a lick of English. Funniest man I have ever been around. He must have been a descendent of the conquistadors. If you guys ever get a chance read this book, Hernan Cortez was one of the greatest men to have ever lived. https://www.amazon.com/History-Conquest-Mexico-William-Prescott-ebook/dp/B01J6RPDKY

The best way to think of "Hispanic" is in the same category as Anglophone or Francophone and not like white or black.

Right as Zylstra was becoming a starter too:

Panthers placed WR Brandon Zylstra on injured reserve.

It's a significant absence since Zylstra usurped Terrace Marshall from the slot in Week 6, running a route on a season-high 69% of Sam Darnold's dropbacks between D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson. Zylstra actually ran 16 more routes than Marshall (29-13) in all as the latter, again thrust into three-wide sets, has meandered for eight total targets and 4/25 receiving in three games without Christian McCaffrey and Dan Arnold this year. He'll continue to play that role for Carolina without Zylstra in the interim.

They signed Barkley - my guess is he will overtake the quota at some point. They should have kept Will Grier around IMO

Now they bring back Scam. McCaffrey should just sit rest of the season out. Panthers are a mess. Scam is vaccinated now, of course gay ass media has to mention this.

Rhule must feel that his seat is warming up and needs a strong finish and that a tanking second half will get him canned. Otherwise this move makes no sense, Newton can only run a college type offense and isn't very good at that any more.

CMAC could lose fantasy points but have less chance at injury as Newton is still a nifty option runner around the goal line.

PS where does that leave Barkley? Walker is the "starter" because he is the only qb that knows the system for now and I assume that Newton will start next week after Walker has an underwhelming game. Barkley to me still has the look of a decent back up but the numbers game in Carolina isn't in his favor.

Newton is the same QB he was last year, he still can't throw consistently/accurately and is not a good fit for the offense outside of his running ability. Panthers certain went from a team that piqued my interest at the beginning of the season to just another team. I'll certainly root for McCaffery to finish the year out healthy and put up big numbers.

Will Grier also outplayed Walker during the preseason and was cut because Rhule loves his pet quota from his day's coaching at Temple.

He succumbed to the vaxx agenda and got a tasty $7.5 million doggie treat for being a good boy. It's a lot of money to think about for us common folks, but we're not already sitting on $100+ million. The media brings it up to remind us that the rat that hits the green button gets a food pellet.

Major incompetence by Rhule on how he handled the QB position. All the money and draft picks spent on Bridgewater and Darnold, and they're right back to Cam Newton 18 months later.

Punting on the QB position in 2020, then drafting one in 2021 draft, would've been the smart move.

@Phall @Jerry Reb well said ! lol

@NEP01 there are rumors Rhule wants to head back to College. If he does, he'll have successfully gutted The Panthers for years to come. Program Builder.

Christian McCaffrey gets to 3,000 yards rushing and 3,000 yards receiving faster or in the fewest games 57, than anyone in NFL history.

Funny but the amateur scouts on this site said what is now being openly whispered about the buttery soft Rhule and his personal decisions. The pundits on this site said he had his pets and now it's being openly talked about in public.

PJ Walker is an arena level talent that is in a fantasy camp earning 500k+ a year, similar to Urbzs when these whispers become public your coach is toast and it will be time to hit the bricks on Black Monday...https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/football/nfl/teams/car/carolina-panthers
