Alex Wilson stuns with European 100m record and sub 20-second 200m in Georgia

Yeah out of nowhere he breaks the European All Time Mens 100 Meters Record. Something fishy for a 30 something year old man that hasn't done much in years.
Switzerland sprinter Alex Wilson impressed by breaking the European 100m and by clocking a sub-20-second performance in the 200m at the Georgia Games in Georgia, USA on Sunday, July 18.
Running under perfect weather conditions for sprinters +30C and favorable (+1.9m/s) winds Wilson won the 100m dash in a new European record of 9.84 seconds. The previous European 100m record of 9.86 seconds belonged to Portugal's Francis Obikwelu and France's Jimmy Vicaut.
About one hour later Wilson returned to action in the 200m and clocked a new Swiss record of 19.89 (wind +1.8m/s).

Regarding Alex Wilson from above. I can believe the 200 meter time more as he is a far better 200 meter sprinter over his career. He had never been sub 10. Yes maximum wind but something seems very off. Hope

those weather conditions were perfect. I'd love to see Rohan Browning get those because that would be his sub 10, right there.
Alex Wilson has put in the hard yards over the years and at 30 he may have now reached his peak. A lot of athletes used a non-competitive 2020 as a good base for improvement while staying injury free.

We'll have to wait to see if it's a FLO-JO moment (although with the wind which was testified HUGE by the long jumpers the record never got annulled).
So I'm not sure that will be ratified ..... but it'll sure give him great confidence for the Games as he's obviously in shape

In regards to womens sprints, jumps etc..there is alopt of negative comments on youtube in regards to women being forced to wear these tight short shorts and some prevocative camera shots. First off women are not forced to wear these shorts..they want to as we all know women are attention hounds. Secondly some camera angles are not the best but it is the fact of using starting blocks that puts womens butts in the air. You dont hear about women complaining about mens skin tight sprint shorts and their junk flailing all over the place whilst sprinting. lol
The swedish gal who double medaled in the TJ and LJ has really good runway technique. I could see her hitting the 7m mark in the LJ sooner than later.

I should have added that Andrew Robertson won the race, and it was the English (not British) Championships.
So Robertson is the English 100m Champion. Congratulations!
Regarding Alex Wilson, over on T&F News message boards, they are saying he ran 10.3x.
Some people have done an analysis of the race and determined that it was nowhere near 9.84.
Personally, I don't believe it.
I have noticed Alex Wilson making remarkable progress the past several years, but nothing to indicate this. Especially at his age. I don't trust him.

I'll wait and see if it was a timing error - probably was! It would have been helpful to know the names (calibre) and times of others in the race

Devin Quinn looked alot better in the final of the 100 meters. I agree his start needs alot of improvement. There is
another American Track League this Sunday. Hopefully Quinn will be entered in it.

we're fine mate, thank you. A bit of lockdown doesn't worry me. In the last 3 weeks I've replaced 3 of my large western side windows with double-glazing, replaced 4 sashcords on an upstairs window, now rebuilding my front porch timber ballustrade. That's on top of throwing shot and discus down the local park and walks beside our local bay.
Busier than I've been for ages!
And now the Games.
We don't live near the areas where these outbreaks have occurred. They are primarily middle eastern areas and run on a different set of priorities - and also a problem in some lower socio-economic areas out in the western suburbs.
A good multi-day motorcycle ride planned for when restrictions end .... thanks for your wishes W/L
Yeah, Quinn is running again on Sunday in Azusa. I'm telling, if he gets a good start under the right conditions

Quinn’s start is as good as anyone’s, it is his final 30m where he struggles in the races where he struggles. For him it is most likely fatigue kicking in. Hope he does well

Quinn is a good starter but not a great starter. His p.b. in the 60 is only 6.54! That is a good time but so many elite sprinters
run in the high 6.40's so he has room for improvement. I don't think he had good starts in that first race. I do agree though
that his peak fitness is not all there. He is deaccelerating faster than the other sprinters.
Either way I hope he goes out tommorow and throws down a blistering time. If nothing else it would be great to see him get a
wind legal sub 10 this summer!

The times that Alex Wilson achieved last Sunday over 100 m and 200 m at a small meeting in Marietta in the US state of Georgia cannot be homologated. The clarifications carried out by Swiss Athletics together with World Athletics and European Athletics have shown that the requirements for homologation are not met in various points.
The astonishment in the athletics community was great when the announcement of Alex Wilson's excellent times made the rounds: the specified 9.84 seconds over 100 m would not only have meant a Swiss record, but even a European record. However, European Athletics has now confirmed that this time will not find its way into the European record books. The start information system required to achieve European records was missing, which automatically reports a false start due to the response time. However, this is not required to achieve a Swiss record.
Swiss Athletics published the times mentioned with the proviso that they still have to be homologated and, in cooperation with the continental and world federations, requested further clarifications from the American federation. After consultation with the organizer and the timekeeper, he has now come to the conclusion that he, as the responsible association, cannot confirm the performances achieved at the GA Games Open Masters. Loosely translated, this writes in an email to Swiss Athletics: "We know that the times given for this meeting are not correct and therefore cannot be homologated". In addition to the fact that there was no referee on site and the stadium is not homologated according to international standards, according to the American association there were also serious but not further explained problems with regard to timing.
Swiss Athletics has therefore decided not to homologate Alex Wilson's two performances as valid competition results and consequently also not as Swiss records. As World Athletics has confirmed, they are not included in the list of the best or in the statistics internationally.

I only saw 1 heat being listed when they should have had 2 heats so alot of guys must have cancelled.
