It's time to start a thread for the South African Sprinter Emilie Erasmus. He today almost went sub 10
twice in the same day in a meet in France. He ran a 10.01 into a negative wind and also ran a 10.02 wind
legal for the win in the finals. Emilie stands 6'4 and at 26 years of age is going into his prime sprinting years. He got a little bit of a late start into athletics but he is a world class athlete.

Here is to him going sub 10 to become only the 6th man from South Africa to ever achieve this.

Yes, he is about to break through. Let's hope for a good start, fast track and +1.9 mile an hour wind at his next meet.

Technically speaking, a 1.9 metre per sec breeze would have got him around 9.90 that day. And the Chinese guy would have taken back Su Bingtian's record that he had held for 6 days.
Oh, that we could manufacture the conditions

Happy 30th Birthday to Emile Erasmus. April 3rd is his birthday and we miss hearing from his dad on how the family is doing. Hope all is well down there.

I just wanted to add that in 3 of his 4 fastest races he had horrible luck with the wind. It reminds me of Shirvington. With just a little wind he goes sub 10 twice wind legal
Here are 3 of his 4 fastest races and with the locations and dates. What a talent and if he never runs this fast again we still thank him for some fun memories! :)

he just placed 3rd at a multi nation meeting in RSA behind Ferdinand Omanyana and Clarence Munyai (who have run respectively 10.00 and 10.04 with no wind in the last month).
Emile was approximately 2 metres and 1 metre back so he would appear to be running well considering the form the other two are in.
Let's see what 2022 brings for him as a 30 year old.
The times in windless conditions were:
1. Ferdinand OMANYALA 02 JAN 1996 KEN 10.11
2. Clarence MUNYAI 20 FEB 1998 RSA 10.20
3. Emile ERASMUS 03 APR 1992 RSA 10.29

here's the last i saw Emile run - coincidentally in the 4 x 100m at Gold Coast Com Games in 2018 against Rohan Browning in the next lane (race starts at 2.20 after a long, slow introduction)

From watching that relay in 2018 it looked like him and Browning were the same speed. They are both elite sprinters. I just wish Emile was younger
and lived in a better country that supported him more. Glad he is still out there doing what he loves though. Maybe with the right conditions he still
has one last chance at a wind legal sub 10. That would be a great birthday gift for him now that he just turned 30 years of age!

I know there are not a lot track posters on this site but Wl brings up a good point. Many white track athletes do not get the financial support that a lot of blacks do at least I know for a fact in this country. Is a Zach Jewell ever going to get endorsements ? Trey Cunningham? I doubt it. I remember Armin Harry the East German 100 meter 1960 Olympic winner could not run full time and support himself as he had 2 full time jobs at one point I believe. Yes track is not a big paying sport and you have to be near the best to get commercial support but its rare you ever hear about our guys getting government support like some blacks do.

was that Jack Hale on 3rd leg? If so he was flying...
yes, Hale. He was full of confidence - he still runs relays well.
The only problem here was our last athlete, Joshua Clark (10.15 PB, +0.8m/s), nursing an injury (he always is - so can't run rounds) which got worse after every run. In the final he looked like he was running in molasses. I knew from his stride it was a lower back problem because I've had it and caught what I looked like on tape.
Here he is running his Rio Olympic qualifier and before pulling out with his first major injury.
6 years on now and the poor guy is still trying to get back to his best - to no avail

Emile is running today and posted that he ran well in the heats ... i can’t find a time for him, however, and he’s scheduled to run in the semis later today, as well.

finally found the results:

Emile ran the fastest time in the opening heats, cruising to an easy win in 10.37. then, he won his semifinal running into a MASSIVE headwind (-4.7) with a 10.67.

it’s nice to see him finally back on the track.

Hi everyone, sorry for not posting. Emile got injured in 2019 and had covid september 2021 but has returned to the track this year. He ran the heats in 10.31 and won comfortably. This was the South African Championships. He won the semi finals in 10.33 also very comfortably. Unfortunately he had a false start in the final. The winning time was 10.31 with small wind from behind. Lasr weekend he ran in Botswana and mangaed a 10.22 with negative 1.6 wind. The SA teamalso ran the 4x100 which he anchored. They ran a 38.36 which placed them well to qualify for the woeld champs. He ran 2 races today won both and I am delighted to say he ran a 10.11 and a 10.13. He is back. We are looking forward to great season as he is trying to get to Europe next week to run. I will keep you up to date

Thanks for the excellent videos. So happy to see Emile Erasmus with his fastest time in a long time. To win 2 races in the same day is even better. Tell him
we are pumped here in America. What a way to celebrate your third decade on earth. Doing what you love at the highest level still. This is a great confidence
booster to him, I'm sure. I'm glad he finally got some positive wind. In most of his races he always seems to be running into the wind. Finally it's the other way
around. Glad the first race was wind legal. To run a 10.11 at any age is amazing and Emile did it at 30. He is aging like a fine wine. Hope he continues to sprint
for several more years. We love watching him. Also again thanks to you for the amazing updates. It always makes our day here and puts a smile on our faces. Our
thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family as well as everyone down there. :)

yes, I'm so happy to see him happy with his results and racing well. I saw a few weeks ago with his 10.23 into a 1.2 that he seemed to be coming on song. Great to see it eventuate.
Nice also to see all the other competitors effusive in their congratulations. Maybe they know what he's been through since he won that 4x1000 Gold at the Com Games here in 2018 - we may see him in same event again this year by this form

His goal is to qualify for Worlds in Eugene. He will also be a regular in the SA 4x100 relay team. Going to bed now it's 11pm. I tested + for covid, so I need to rest. Got some flu symptoms but not to bad.

thanks for posting those videos. i’m happy Emile is still pursuing the sport he loves. he’s overcome a LOT!

additionally, i am amazed every I see him walk about after a race: he stands a full head taller than almost every other sprinter he competes against! to run as fast as he does whilst being such a big man is truly phenomenal.

Morning all, Emile is leaving for Europe tonight. His first race is Friday 5 27 22 in Poznan, Poland. I believe there is a livestream available. I will post the link as soon as it is available. He has also been selected for South Africa to run 100m and 4x100 at the African champs in Mauritius from June 8. I will keep you updated.
