Yahoo just LOVED getting this "story" out there. A WR and a DB got into a slap fight at practice. I wonder how many other times it happened today. Hell, it probably happened at my 10 year old's practice. Good for Cooper for not backing down, and good for, of all people, Michael Vick, for acting like a leader. I think this "story" has gone beyond just trying to sink Riley Cooper; I think the usual suspects are trying to bring down the Eagles, who just happen to be one of the whiter teams across the board (still not used to that). I hope Vick hits Cooper for three touchdowns opening day. Of course I hope Vick gives way to Foles, but I do want him to be the one to initially go to Cooper for a touchdown or three.

In the eyes of the media it's never race related if the word comes out of the mouth of an afleet. Only non-afleets can be evil and full of hate. [/sarcasm off]

rotoworld doesn't let their guard down:

Riley Cooper caught two passes for 29 yards in Philadelphia's Week 3 loss to the Chiefs.

It was a pathetic night for the Eagles' stone-handed "No. 2 receiver," who committed three drops, and would have finished with only one catch had Chiefs CB Sean Smith not doubled over in cramps. Cooper is a failed experiment as an NFL receiver, but the Eagles simply have no one else to trout out.

This racist pig needs to know that he's way out of line. As long as swine like this thinks he can get away with it, he will. What Riley Cooper, and the Eagles, need is a legitimate quarterback who can read defenses and make accurate throws. Instead of blaming Cooper's supposed "lack of athleticism" this Joe Doris character, if we was even semi-honest, would be putting the blame where it rightfully belongs, on Vick's low IQ. Philly's offense will never run smoothly with Michael Vick attempting to run it.

It’s Time for Philadelphia Eagles to Ax Controversial, Underachieving WR Riley Cooper

by Joe Doris

Nobody can say that he wasn’t given a fair shake.

But after just a trio of contests to kick off the 2013 NFL season, WR Riley Cooper has proven that he has no place on the Philadelphia Eagles’ roster.

Following his ignorant, wildly-offensive and truly disturbing use of an all too familiar racial slur, many fans were prepared to give him a second chance. But now that he has shown that he can’t even perform on the field, there is really no reason to keep him around any longer. In reality, the backlash surrounding his moral mishap could certainly be affecting his play.

I can guarantee you that Cooper has had an ear-full of criticism, threats and relentless taunts while on the gridiron, and I don’t expect that to stop anytime soon. To be completely honest, he deserves every bit of the ear-lashing that he’s receiving. And unfortunately for Coop, the only thing that he isn’t receiving is passes from QB Michael Vick.

With 16 targets in three games, Vick has tried to get Cooper the football, but the fourth-year wide-out just can’t hang onto it. Plagued with drops and an overall lack of athleticism when it comes to reaching for less-than-perfect throws, Cooper has only been able to tally 6 catches for a miserable 68 yards and a single score.

Cooper may have been worth keeping around if he was actually able to produce, but now that he has proven to be useless, head coach Chip Kelly and the Birds need to just snip him loose.

While WRs Jason Avant and Damaris Johnson are hardly ideal candidates to complement stud WR DeSean Jackson, I promise you nobody will miss Cooper if he is handed his walking papers.

Funny Brandon Lafell has 4 catches for 13 yards in two starts. You would think the media would knock him but no, they speak of his potential.

I really haven't watched much football lately, only bits and pieces as I'm out doing more important things, so I really have no idea what this "drops" thing on Cooper is about. Has he really showed "stone hands" and made drops? Are there any "Riley Cooper drops" videos out there? Or are these guys just looking at the "targets" number and assuming that he dropped all the ones he didn't catch? Thing is, assuming that it's the latter, the more it's repeated the more "true" it becomes in the minds of all DWFs. After all, it's an "expert" saying that he dropped all of these balls, so it must be true.

His "drops" have come off Michael Vick scrambling and then making a poor throw. One of his "drops" would have been incomplete even if he had caught it because he would have come down out of bounds. Why are their no calls to bench Michael Vick for some of these laughably bad throws? Or his complete inability to read a defense.

The site is idiotic and every article is a written by a brainless hack. I posted an article from that site where they listed women athletes that could "play in the NFL." Some of them were about 5'0''.

What really pisses me off is that the media acts like Vick is the only person on earth who can run this offense. They act like Foles or Barkley would fail miserably. So because Vick can run fast he's fit to lead a fast offense. During the preseason one of the announcers said the average time between snaps led by Foles was like 24 seconds, and the average time between snaps led by Vick was like 20 seconds. This of course doesn't include the fact that Foles made a lot more adjustments at the line of scrimmage than Vick.

I like the comments by Chip Kelly on Riley:

After catching just eight passes while starting the first five games of the season, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper broke through Sunday at Tampa with four catches for a career-high 120 yards and a touchdown in the 31-20 win over the Buccaneers.

Cooper, whose yardage exceeded his total from the first five games, had a 47-yard touchdown catch in the end zone to give the Eagles the lead in the third quarter and later had a 44-yard catch and run to set up a Nick Foles TD pass to DeSean Jackson. He also had a 17-yard catch in the first half. His longest reception of the season prior to Sunday was 16 yards.

Head coach Chip Kelly said Monday the team didn't run different plays in an effort to involve Cooper, a full-time starter for the first time in place of the injured Jeremy Maclin.

"We ran the same offense, did the same things," Kelly said. "Riley's been open a lot. We just haven't thrown the ball to him.

"That's one thing when you look at the production out of a receiver is we always look at catches and drops, and I think we had him for two drops on the season so far. I think when the ball's been thrown to Riley, he's had an opportunity and he's done it. The ball was thrown to him more on Sunday and he took advantage of it."

League stats showed Cooper being targeted 19 times through the first five games and catching the ball just eight times - two in each of the first four games before being shut out last week at the Giants - but Kelly claimed the stat is misleading. A target is assigned for every throw, and Kelly gave an example of a QB throwing a ball away and said that if the pass is "14 feet over his head, that's not the receiver's fault."

"We've been happy with Riley," said Kelly. "When the ball's been thrown to him, he's caught it and he proved it again on Sunday for us. We've had had confidence in him the whole way and I was happy that he could show that."

Good article. It answered the question that I posed in my last post on this thread in regards to Cooper's "drops". So, it's as I suggested, the critics are just looking at the stat sheet and assuming the missed targets are drops, merely because they hate Riley Cooper.

Given how things operate in the NFL, I'm guessing Vick is going to be the starter for the rest of the season. That hasn't been good for Cooper so far. I have Vick in all 4 of my fantasy leagues and Foles in 3. Foles lit it up for 5 quarters and even the media was saying he had a "good chance" to seize the starting job if he played well last week after posting over a 110 QB rating in those 5 quarters. Foles however, didn't play well before getting a concussion last week with Barkley finishing the game. Vick has just over a 90 QB rating so far this year, (which is pretty good) and is a great runner, but has been prone to costly fumbles in his recent career- although he's been better with interceptions this year. I'm hoping that Vick has seen the success that Cooper had with Foles and will stop locking into Jackson all the time- and throw to Cooper when he is open. The Eagles' offense would be better served with that. Fantasy wise, Vick starting is good for all 4 of my fantasy teams (with his rushing stats).

just to see how despicably pathetic the DWFs of "Raiduh Nation" are, check out how they treated Riley Cooper in the midst of his monster 5 catch, 139 yard, 3-touchdown game. a fan threw trash at him and another gave him the double one-finger salute.

After Nick Foles fired this touchdown strike to Riley Cooper – his third TD catch of the game – a fan in the Black Hole threw something at the receiver, and a fan in a Terrelle Pryor jersey gave Cooper the double middle-finger (better view of that clown below).

click the link to see a couple of gifs of the "brave" pieces of crap in the stands. they are undoubtedly "proud" of themselves for showing Cooper what they think of him ...

Anyone who has had the displeasure of watching a game in Oakland knows that the Raiduh fans are the worst of the worst. Sure, you'll run into unsavory types in differing numbers going to say, a Jets game or venturing to Cleveland, but in Oakland it is something that is above and beyond. I can go into virtually any NFL venue wearing the opposing team's gear, and might get razzed a bit, but beyond that it's friendly. Go to a Raiduh game with opposing team gear at your peril, literally.

Michael Vick will always deserve credit for publicly standing up for Riley when his NFL career was hanging by a thread, because if the Eagles had cut him no other team would have touched him given what he had said and how little Andy Reid had used him the previous three seasons.

The great irony is that the blossoming of Cooper into the star we here (and only us here) knew he could be with Foles at QB shows conclusively that Vick is unfit for a fast-paced offense that requires quick, almost instaneous multiple reads then quickly getting rid of the ball.

Of course, Cooper is far from out of the woods. Vick may regain his starting job again if/when he gets healthy. And Cooper is a free agent after the season. Will the Eagles re-sign him to be a starter? And if not, will any other team?

Yes, not only did Vick publicly defend Cooper multiple times (along with WR Jason Avant, who also deserves credit) after his use of a “banned word,” he also defended him in a fight with vile CB, Cary Williams, during a training camp practice session several days later. Lest we forget the video of the scuffle in which Vick clearly confronts Williams (about 30 seconds in) and appears very angry at his “black brother”…

If nothing else, Vick has matured a great deal from his early days as a herpes-infected “Ron Mexico,” carrying a marijuana-laden water bottle onto a flight, hanging around violent Negroes who fire guns at crowded parties, and his barbarous involvement in a dog fighting ring. Over the past few years, Vick has behaved like a model citizen (for a black male, at least). Any assertion that Vick was intentionally not throwing to Cooper seems a bit unfounded, as the two appear to be friends and Vick doesn’t have the luxury of overlooking open receivers. Nevertheless, Foles appears to have a great respect for Cooper (presumably because they were both back-ups together and developed a rapport) on and off the field and is solely responsible for all of his success this season.

Fair enough. He is indeed too terrible to get the ball to any one.

And while Vick likely hadn't the luxury to ignore Cooper (much less the brain speed and time to reliably locate him on the field or, for that matter, few of his other receivers), Foles appears to have favored him in the last game. Because when you're good to decent, you have these luxuries.

But I wouldn't give Vick too much credit for his forgiveness of Cooper (assuming it entirely genuine). A quarterback on the bubble hardly needs additional enemies on his team (or among his fans). It's simple enough to take the high-road and appear the bigger man, as every single white in the NFL (and in the world) would do if it were possible for the shoe to be on the other foot.

It's great PR stuff for Vick. The forgiveness routine. And he's a guy very much in need of PR. Beats electrocuting dogs. I mean let's not forget who we are talking about here.

The buddy-buddy stuff is great with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover/Larry Bird and Magic Johnson but millions of dollars and the perks of being a movie star or a professional football player tend to put peeps in a good mood and make them "the best of buddies". Brings a smile to everyone's face.

I mean are we praising people now for vaguely resembling humans? Is that the new standard? Haha

Even before the odious dog fighting/torturing incident in 2007, Vick had already been involved in many criminal activities…from knowingly transmitting STD’s to various women, to being linked to PED’s, to giving Atlanta fans the middle finger, to petty theft, to smoking/transporting marijuana, and associating with all sorts of gun-toting street Negroes. At Caste Football, we discussed all of these crimes, at length, in various long-lost threads. We used to exclusively refer to him as “Ron Mexico”…

CAPTION: DWF’s Mock Vick’s Genital Herpes

CAPTION: Flipping Off His Own Fans

Since being released from prison in 2009, Vick hasn’t been involved in any controversial behavior, let alone criminal activity. He stood up for Riley Cooper when the Judeo-Marxist Media, certain Eagles players, and the DWF’s were in a tizzy attempting to ravage his life, career, and personal reputation. He physically defended Cooper from a black player during an interracial scuffle at practice. Vick didn’t need to do those things, but he did. Perhaps he likes Cooper as a friend, or maybe he knows exactly what it feels like to be a national pariah. Then again, I could be completely wrong in praising him.

I don’t like Vick in any conceivable way (I hope this is his final NFL season)…but I’ll admit that he seems to have matured (for a black male, at least) a great deal since his fall from grace, incarceration, and bankruptcy. For instance, during the Raiders-Eagles game, Vick seemed fully supportive of Foles and appeared quite excited whenever Foles came to the sidelines after various TD drives.

which goes to show that the system does work sometimes and doing time can change you for a better.

I too, was shocked when Vick was both verbally (after the "racist" incident") and physically (facing Williams) ready to defend and stand up for a white receiver.

he does need some recognition of that, it doesn't exactly balance out all of his past but goes a way towards redemption.

now let's hope for this Foles2Coop connection to keep blossoming! Riley still has a shot at 1k, 10 TDs season which would be a huge achievement in his contract year, especially since he was on the cusp of being out.

Ah what the hell. A broken clock is right twice a day.

Just irritating that a hype-job, low life like Vick occupies any moment of thinking in my life.

The answer to the which race has better football players let alone athletes could be decided irrevocably by one day forming two conferences in the same international league. One white, one black while allowing any team to employ white coaches. The conferences would soon have to form their own separate leagues to keep things competitive but it would be nice to have that (2 seasons? 1?) period of categorical vindication for all of history to look back upon.

I think at this point Foles has done enough to remain the starter once Vick comes back. Kelly is a reasonable man- and despite Vick playing "fairly" well before playing bad in the game where he re-injured his hamstring, Foles has performed lights out for a long enough period to make the case he's probably "the real deal" at QB. I think even most DWFs lean toward Foles being the better QB at this point- after 2 more monster games coming back from his concussion. Plus Vick being injury prone probably means the Eagles want to see a less injury prone and younger QB's upside after spectacular play (other than the first quarter of the game he got a concussion).

I actually like the man Vick has become after watching him on the 700 club and seeing all the things he's tried to do to clean up his life and make amends for his past and (and telling people that forgiveness really warms the heart and brings peace which he found after he forgave himself), but at this point I am rooting for Foles to remain the starter. Foles being the starter will be better for Cooper to challenge the caste myths as well.

I think Kelly would probably move Cooper to 4th string once Maclin returns next season. Although I believe Cooper is making a case he's a little better player than Maclin...this is the NFL after all and the case isn't strong enough in this PC league. Cooper would be better trying to go to a team with a weak WR core as a FA and one where the QB is willing to throw down-field a lot. I expect Maehl to become Philly's 3rd WR next season due to his connection with Kelly from Oregon. Also it would be much easier for Kelly to promote him over steady Avant, if he gives Maclin back his #2 Flanker WR role. I am rooting for Vick getting a starting job somewhere else to play out the rest of his career.

I personally never read any proof that Vick "electrocuted dogs", but just that him or his buddies killed them to put them out of their misery, if they were badly injured in the dog fight. The last part was coming from a friend who likes Vick so it could be wrong. I agree what he did was barbaric and certainly very mean spirited while trying to be a "big shot", but I see this as a man who has really turned his life around, found Christ and found some redemption.

Edited to add: In Cooper's redemption story he better have become aware of staying away from Marxist wacko teams like the Steelers, Raiders and Buccaneers. Certainly playing for his former coach "Fat Bastard" in KC would be a disaster in the making too.

just a little better than Maclin? I want whatever youre on. Cooper has shown flashes of being an elite wideout in the NFL. Maclin is an above average number 2 receiver on a team that has no size at wideout, Jackson is under 6 foot, Maclin is barely 6 foot. Cooper can stretch the field, get the tough catches and a better chance for a jump ball. Maclin might have 2 or 3 games a season with 100 yards (Cooper has 3 in the past 5 games), never has posted 1k despite given every opportunity to for 4 years. OH yeah, and not close to being on the same level that is very important in Chip Kelly's offense, run blocking.

Maclin is one of the more overrated WRs in the game, especially fantasy wise. He just doesn't produce they way his hype suggests.

Rotoworld now laughably suggests Riley Cooper is on the "WR3" radar. At least knowledgeable fantasy football players realize how ridiculous they are.

If Cooper isn't a "WR1" right now, who is?
