The U.K. Indoor Champs were a dissapointment from the mens sprints and hurdles. Dwain Chambers was eliminated which made me happy. On the down side, Andrew Robertson and Greg Cackett also failed to make the finals. I really thought Greg would look good as he has had a very nice season so far until this weekend. A. Robertson just is inconsistant. It's sad as he has alot of talent and youth on his side. I don't think Robertson will ever pan out though as he just has such a short stride. Most elite sprinters have an elongated stride even when they are short. I hope i'm wrong but time will tell. On the hurdles side, Pozzi made the finals but couldn't compete do to a hamstring injury.

Does anyone know when Micahel Tumi races again? I really want to see a high 6.40's time. Haven't seen one since Nagel from one of the
euro sprinters and you damn near never see any period! It is rarified territory for sure. I just hope this kid has the speed endurance to carry it outdoors to bring home a fine time in the 100 meters.

he'll race at the italian championships this sunday, but he doesn't expect to run very fast because he has been training very hard for the european championships in goteborg that will take place next month, at the begnning of the month

Nice article jacknyc. It's great to see a little bit of a sprinting revival in Ireland.

Look at these results from the mens 60 finals at the Russian Indoor Champs. All great times indeed.

Moskva (Russia), 12-14.2.2013 –National Championships- (Indoor)
Men
60m 1 Aleksandr Brednev 6.68; 2 Maksim Polovinkin 6.71; 3 Aleksandr Shpayer 6.72; 4 Aleksandr Khyutte 6.73; 5 Yevgeniy Shtyrkin 6.73; 6 Pawel Vruchinskiy 6.81

Fabio Cerutti ran a 6.67 for the win today in Italy. Not bad but it's sad he never did much after his 10.13 several years back. I had hoped he would have went further as did alot of us here.

Dennis Dimitrov is only 19 and today he ran a 6.72 for the win. Another young one to keep an eye on.

Yes that probably caused him almost a tenth of a second as he did it quite far out. J. Astrand has a p.b. outdoors of 20.53 which is very close the the Finnish 200 Meters Record of 20.49! Hopefully in a few months he will own the indoor and outdoor 200 meters national records. He also has a p.b. of 6.70 in the 60 which is around average. This guy must have great speed endurance. It's too be he is in his late twenties but he just may be a late bloomer.

Sorry to nitpick but Ã…strands PB is 20.50 and the Finnish record is 20.47 (ran by Tommi Hartonen who also owns the Finnish NR in 100m, 10.21). Actually Jonathan started training seriously around 3 years ago, he ran sub-11 at the age of 17 with only skateboarding background :D He is very talented, definately not a 60m rocket starter, but like you stated he has an excellent speed endurance. His indoor 20.7x should be equivalent to around 20.30 outdoors, if he stays healthy.

I remember Tommi Hartonen. Thanks for the post and glad to have you here.

Sergey Shubenkov of Russian just blazed his way to a new european leading 7.50 in the 60 hurdles. This kid is has all of the tools to
get down to 11 seconds flat and possibly sub 11 this summer! He is so good but he will be pushed by many other european hurdlers. This
event is becoming of the most exciting ones to watch lately. So much young talent.

Russian youngster Aleksander Menkov jumped a european leading 8.22 meters at the Russian Championships. This kid has to be one of the favorites to win gold at the European Indoor Athletics Champioships. He is very talented. Reif and Bayer of Germany will probably be his closest competetors.

Lucas Jacubyzk, Michael LeBlanc and Greg Cacket are all running in the Birmingham Indoors tommorow. They drew some bad lane assignments but maybe they will still pull off some nice times. Got my fingers crossed.

The German Youth Indoor Champs are live online this weekend. Next weekend will by the German Seniors Indoor Champs which will
also be broadcasted live online. Nothing better than free track on the internet!

rod and reus

ad rodriguez will medal in the euros all going well :clap2:, and so will reus if he can remain confident enough in his abilities , ....at least here in europe the main stream media is beginning to allow people more real information on the doping spectre ......including how kim collins failed doping tests as far back as 2003( BBC ONLINE) including leichtathletik .de ...... thankfully the british magazine athletics weekly continually has well informed discourse on doping ,,,,,therefore showing up many cheats and potential cheats ... so i guess there is hope that clean athletes ( generally white ) can and will be respected for their abilities .....

First off, if you are a track fan at all run, don't walk, to the Galen Rupp and Mary Cain threads. Galen (unbelievably exciting video) dropped down from his usual 6 mile distance and shocked everyone by nearly breaking the record in the mile. Mary, just two weeks after her 3k high school record was declared the greatest high school run of all time at any distance by any runner male or female, topped it by breaking annihilating the 40 yr-old high school record in the mile. Both videos are linked.

Now anybody remember Mr. Cas Loxsom? He's been a favorite on these boards, a tremendously talented 800m runner from Penn State who unfortunately had a poor 2012. Well, he's BACK. Yesterday, Cas dropped down to the 600m and broke the collegiate record. What's more, his time was so fast that he finished with 9/100's of a second of the US national record set hours earlier by a professional athlete. Indeed, in a previous post, Jack pointed out Dai Greene's new UK record in the 600. Loxsom's run was WAY faster. Here's the video in which Loxsom looks smoother and stronger than he's ever looked before.

Eric Sowinski, set a new American record in the 600m tonight at the Melrose Games - 1:15.61. He will be another one to watch in the 800m.

Mary Cain continued her unbelievable HS career by coming in 2nd in the mile against pros and collegians with a new HS record. She actually set 4 records during the race - HS and American Junior mile and 1500m records. Also she becomes the 6th fastest American women's indoor miler of all time. She would have set the collegiate record as well if she was in college...wOw!

Those were some great performances, weren't they? I'd forgotten Sowinski was even in the race. It was billed as a match race between Nick Symmonds (not at top speed because of recent flu) and Duane Solomon. Sowinski was only added a couple of days ago after Borlee dropped out. He was supposed to be an afterthought and he set the US record with his arms in the air!

Mary Cain--what more can you say? Can you believe she's not even a senior yet? What's she going to do next year? Break the boys records? At this point, I don't think there's anything she can't do. Did you her time would have been a collegiate record? Incredible. I watched the race, and she just makes it look so easy. Pretty much the most perfect stride I've ever seen, and she still hasn't fixed her arm carriage or posture.

Oh, and what about that mile? Kind of slipped under the radar--but we have a lot of YOUNG guys putting up world class times all of the sudden. Ciaran 0'Lianaird and Chris O'Hare both hit the 3:52's. Those times are sick. O'Hare's was an NCAA record. Oh, and let's not forget about equally young Ryan Gregson, who flew all the way from Australia to NY, crossing about 50 time zones and arriving less than 48 hrs before the event, and still ran a 3:55. The future looks good in the mile.

Finally, you have to love steeplechaser Evan Jager hanging tough in the 2-mile. I believe he ran 8:13, which is outstanding and shows that he's got serious wheels to do damage in his event. He was always an incredible talent but was injured too often and hadn't fulfilled his potential in the flat races. If he can stay healthy, watch out.

Hey guys. I was reading a bristish track message board and we have a Richard Kilty siting. Apparently he hasn't done any winter training but still went out today and easily won in a great time of 6.62! This kid is a natural. He is also going to be headed back to the U.S. again in April to reunite and train with L.Christie. I still would prefer he had a different coach but at least he is competing again! Great start to the season for him. Hopefully only the start to a monster year!

Some other news:

Patrick Feeney took the 400m crown in the Big East against some tough competition. Time was around 46.12.

His teammate Chris Giesting ran a blistering 500. Actually I believe it was the fourth fastest time ever run at the infrequently contested distance. Nevertheless, he finished a close second. The guy who beat him is pretty stupendous, though.

At the Simplot Games (H.S.), I noticed that Alex Mead (multiple state sprint champ for Colorado) won the 200m in 21.70. A superb indoor time for a high schooler.

Great news from the middle distance and distance men and women. What an exciting time to be a track fan. You guys do a great job with keeping us up to date. Mary Cain is from another planet! Amazing talent as are many of these other stars.

Michael Tumi might just deserve his own thread already. If only we knew how it would translate to outdoors. He has to go at least sub 10.20 at the worst possible case scenario but I see him running in the 10.05-10.10 range! Can't wait for summer!

note .

tumi is a one trick pony over 60m and i reckon he is dirty !!!!!he has made too big of an improvement over one season and his build implies doping !!!!! honest opinion ......rodriguez and reus much more believable...we know the americans and jamaicans are doping or have doped.....guaranteed tumi will dissappear over the summer ...lets be honest if we going to lambast black sprinters , :behindsofa::behindsofa::behindsofa::behindsofa::behindsofa::behindsofa::behindsofa: like the greeks many italian sprinters have doped in the past !!!!

We dont know for sure..Tumi always had a strong build. Not everyone who is muscled is on ped's. He is also young and may just be peaking. No one knows until they are caught.

First off I believe in the phrase "innocent until proven guilty". He does not look overly muscular to me. He has always had a descent build and he doesn't look overly vascular. The times are a drastic improvent but from 21-25 you do see that more often. I also have to say that with all of the yamaicans and others cheating around the world, why wouldn't a few of our guys possibly consider it. On that note though, I will just remain optomistic. I say he is clean. We cannot afford to condemn our guys without a shred of evidence. We have so few sprinters to root for to begin with. This kid is very likeable and marketable. He will become a household name if he can go sub 10 in the next couple of years.

Yes it's not like there haven't been muscular sprinters in the past if you saw Bobby Morrow running today you might speculate he was "on something". The few White 100 meter runners that have failed drug test in the recent past have looked as jacked up as the Blacks that have failed tests or were ratted out.

I found this result from Bulgaria:
Denis Dimitrov 6.71 for the 60 meters.
Not super fast, but almost as fast as Lemaitre this season.
What is more notable is that the kid is still a teenager - born in 1994, so perhaps he will be someone to watch in a year or two.

I wish every runner were clean, but that's simply not the case. Very close to 100% of sprinters are roided. LeMaitre, skinny fellow that he is, shows every sign of being clean. Tumi? Not so much. I still like Tumi and will pull for him, but only because I know he is running against all those juiced Jamaicans. It levels the playing field.

If you look back at photographs of the top sprinters all the way up until 1980 or so, they were virtually all skinny. Skinny white guys, skinny Jamaicans, skinny Brits, skinny African-Americans. Even skinny Italians (look at the 200m Olympic champion from the Rome Olympics, or even the great Pietro Mennea, who unfortunately did dabble with HGH, but clearly not very much) Sprinters aren't supposed to look like body builders. Tumi, with his massive traps, doesn't pass the eye test for me. He's just doing what an athlete has to do until the testers finally get their act together.
