The fact that an undrafted rookie, Doug Baldwin, came in and easily beat Kris out doesn't really bode well for him. And it certainly doesn't suprise me, considering Caste whore Pete Carroll is the head coach. Yes, Kris is bigger, faster and stronger, based on both players' Pro Day numbers, but here are the scary numbers that count most at the mid-way point of their rookie years: Baldwin 28 rec/434 yds/2TD's...Durham 3/30/0.

That said, Durham was a fairly high pick, so it gives him some hope going forward, if that's with Seattle or some other team. If he was the typical "white-longshot/undrafted free agent" that surprised and made Seattle as a rookie, but was IR'ed after only 3 receptions, his career would very likely be over.

The sad part is that they were actually competing for the same spot. Baldwin is pretty much a slot receiver. That is where they tried to put the 6'4 Durham. Of course a 5'10 189 pound guy will do better in the slot. Durham is a long strider, best suited for the outside, putting him in the slot made him no different than the new breed of receiving tight ends that never block.

Good points. Career super-bust Mike Williams is still on Seattle and doing very little this season...We know Carroll loves this scrub, based on their time together at USC. But it's possible he'll be a cap-cut and Kris could slide into his place next season as the teams' next 'tall receiver/red zone threat'. Also, Golden Tate has stunk both on and off the field in Seattle, so that's another guy that could be gone.

That said, we know how this works: Seattle could draft or sign a few WR's next spring and Kris' career could take a very bad turn. Let's hope for the best, as this kid has serious talent. Had he been given a fair chance, he could've been a huge performer at Georgia -- 1,000 yard receiver as a junior and senior -- and should've been a much higher draft pick.

He's actually an inch taller than AJ Green w/ similar speed & good hands. He was definitely under-utilized at UGA.

Very quietly, Kris Durham has a chance to make his mark in 2012, even on Caste Master Pete Carroll's team. #1 WR Sidney Rice is perpetually injured, and #2 Fat Mike Williams has, according to a blurb in Weenie World the other day, returned to his time-honored habits of laziness and obesity, plus he's likely to open the season on the PUP list. Williams surprised in 2010 but regressed significantly last year.

That leaves Golden Tate, a bust through his first two seasons, and the immortal Ben Obomanu as Durham's main competition for the second outside receiving job. The writer of the article below thinks Durham has a good chance of winning it. If so, that would give us another White receiver starting on the outside. There could be as many as six if Durham is "allowed" to start.

Kris Durham 2011 Season Retrospective

by Danny Kelly

Kris Durham was a surprise fourth-round pick in 2011 for the Seahawks out of Georgia, and at 6'5, 216, had experience playing on the outside and in the slot for the Bulldogs. In his rookie season, he played in three games before being placed on the injured reserve with a labrum injury, and he caught three passes for 30 yards.

Though Durham played sparingly, Nate's done a great job of putting together a retrospective video that shows nearly all his snaps from 2011. With Mike Williams still sidelined from his major leg/ankle injury from last year, and unable to even cut or change direction at this point, it's looking more and more likely that he'll be placed on the PUP list to start the season. That means the outside receiver spot opposite of Sidney Rice could be up for grabs, and Durham becomes the most likely suitor, along with Ben Obomanu, Golden Tate, and a few long shots like Ricardo Lockette, Deon Butler, Phil Bates, etc.

Personally, I have high hopes for Durham going forward - in his limited action he looked pretty good, especially against Pittsburgh, where he had his three catches. He's got a huge catch radius, some speed, and it will be interesting to see how he fares in training camp and the OTAs.

It's tough to evaluate Durham based on three catches and some blocking downfield, but my impression is that he looks smooth running routes (this route here is timed perfectly), and sinks his hips and chops his feet to sit down on curl or comeback routes nicely.

Exhibit A here, exhibit B here. As for his downfield blocking, it's also tough to tell. He delivers a nice crack-back here, and does a decent job occupying his defender on a few others. Anyway, check the video out below, and thanks to Nate again for putting these together.

Don, thanks for posting the update on Durham. He was 1 of my favorite UGA players in a long while. IF he's given the reps & passes...I've no doubt he can do very well in the NFL.

The signing of Terrell Owens and Braylon Edwards could mean the end of Durham in Seattle, and maybe the NFL. He wasn't well known coming out of Georgia and could easily join White Receiver Purgatory. The media is already making rumblings about Shipley and Hartline being cut, so this year's annual ethnic cleansing could be as nasty as any.

Terrell Owens took a step forward in his second day practicing with the team. Most of the receivers seem to have stepped up their games since Owens became a factor with the team. Kris Durham continues to be an exception, however. The second-year receiver projected as the successor to Mike Williams, but he has struggled with drops and doesn't appear to be playing with confidence. Owens caught the ball consistently and made two notable plays. He turned around corner Byron Maxwell to free himself along the right sideline. Later, Owens beat veteran corner Marcus Trufant for a touchdown on a fade route, tipping the ball to himself and getting both feed inbounds before falling to the ground.

T-yO is a washed up afflete who was grossly overrated before. I'm so sick and tired of (better) White players getting shafted by less talented and/or washed up groidians. :frusty:

I hope Durham somehow sticks. I also do not think Hartline is going to be cut now with that moron Chad Johnson getting arrested for domestic violence. Shipley should not be on the bubble - I think they are going to put him on the PUP - he was a great slot WR as a rookie but as all of us who have followed him since his days at Texas he is injury prone.

This time of year is always a double edged sword since White players do get to play and prove themselves as capable and talented in the preseason only to be cut due to the obvious institutional racism that exists. At least in November/December some of them will be signed due to injuries (sorry for ranting).

The Lions' black receivers coach decides to play tough, and guess who bears the brunt of it?

Last week receivers coach Shawn Jefferson put on a helmet and played press coverage against his players during position drills. He upped the intensity of the drill Thursday.

He put on shoulder pads and the helmet and hit each receiver as they came off the line. He hit practice squad receiver Kris Durham so hard that Durham was limping for several minutes after.

Then, to take it a step further, he put himself on one side of a mat and a receiver on the other. At the whistle, they charged each other with Jefferson tackling the receivers on the mat.

He did that drill with rookie Ryan Broyles and Titus Young. He popped Young hard enough to jar his helmet off. Wisely, though, neither Calvin Johnson nor Nate Burleson took part in the tackling drill.

Did we mention that Jefferson is 43 years old?

No more Mr. Nice Guy, indeed.

I had no idea Kris Durham was on the Lions practice squad. If there ever was a group that could use a "possession" receiver it would be the Lions piss poor pass catchers. Calvin Johnson has become a typical butter fingered black superstar receiver, yes he makes some grabs when he has to leap over cornerbacks that are 12" shorter but a pass in his numbers across the middle is 50/50 if he'll catch it.

Titus Young is awful dropping nearly everything thrown his way. Tight end Brandon Pettigrew is beyond horrible and is actually more known for his drops then anything else. The only reliable reciever is Nate Burleson-the very definintion of a possession receiver as he certainly does not possess any speed anymore, but he does hold on to the dang ball when it comes his way.

Broyles an inexplicable high draft pick at reciever (yet again) must be really bad not to have moved ahead of those losers on the depth chart. I predict Kris Durham gets a chance to show his talent the day after a plane crashes and every other receiver on the roster is killed. Unless there are enough replacements on the waiver wire of course.

Burleson is out for the year. Hopefully this means Durham will get the call up from the practice squad. I am sure Stafford would be happy to see a familiar face. It's not like any other receivers besides Calvin Johnson are catching anything.

I think Ryan Broyles will step right into Burleson's role. He had a very good career at Oklahoma before blowing out a knee last year and might turn out to be an excellent slot receiver in the NFL.

Durham's best chance for playing time may be if bonehead Titus Young gets injured or arrested. But after the way he was treated by Seattle, Durham will likely serve a long racial apprenticeship before he gets an opportunity, if any.

With Burleson gone they have an opening and can now move Durham from the practice squad to the roster. Oh no wait they would rather sign a black bust: Brian Robiske. As Don mentioned before he has been horrible beyond belief but he IS black.

So much for optimism for Durham to get any playing time. I'm not as upset as I would be. I just find it laughable that this black bust who was billed as the "most NFL ready" receiver in whatever year he came out is bouncing around the league. The Lions will just be the next team to realize they made a mistake. Although we all here know its a mistake already.

Durham and Matt Stafford were roommates at Georgia. With that connection and the Lions being down so many receivers due to injuries (Burleson, Broyles) and boneheadness (Young), Durham has a chance to make a splash in spite of the organization he's playing for. Let's hope Stafford looks for him tomorrow when the Lions play Green Bay if he gets playing time. He's got the talent to be a star if given a fair shot.

This is a pretty good article:

Familiarity with Detroit Lions' scheme, QB Matthew Stafford, should ease Kris Durham's transition to active roster

About time. I was wondering what the point of the practice squad was. I thought it was a place to put guys that were close to making the roster and then move them up when a spot opens up due to injury or mental illness (Titus Young). Durham is a guy that knows the playbook, practices with the team, and should have been the first call up.

But no the Lions went and got Mike Thomas, then pulled Robiske off of the waiver wire. I think the only reason they haven't signed Terrell Owens or Ocho Stinko or somebody like that is because they are out of the playoffs and at the point it would be too stupid even for them to sign another guy when they have one on the squad. I'm sure Durham's leash will be very short for the black centric Lions. Good luck to him.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the Stafford / Durham connection works out. If Durham stays healthy he could end up being a long time starter.

Hopefully Durham will be used primarily outside where he belongs.

If successful Durham could be another nail in the coffin of the caste system.

I hope Durham plays well during his extended try out. The only annoying thing is that this happens every year at this time of the season - white players get to play during late season and usually play well. Most of the time their performances are forgotten or written off and the team will draft an afflete to replace the white player.

Durham caught 4 passes for 54 yards in his first NFL start for a 13.5 average. Not too bad for his first game.

Rotoworld said that Durham failed "the audition."

They said he "didn't do nearly enough" to earn another start. Yes he did. His stats averaged over a season would be 64 catches and over 850 yards. That's not bad.

Durham did make a couple of mistakes but he is practically a rookie. Rotoworld's judgement is suspect and not worth much.

Rotoworld strikes again. I bet he could have gone for 100 yards and they would still say that about him.

An update on Durham. He didn't do much in the last game, an embarrassing blow out loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He did make an excellent catch in the end zone for what would have been a TD but Stafford waited too long to get the snap off and it was nullified by the resulting offsides. Too bad because that would have given him something positive, as it is the coach, Jim Schwartz, threw him and Tony Scheffler under the bus after the game. He has been railing all week long about how none of the other receivers are "making plays" or getting open and it's been all Calvin Johnson.

The accusation is ridiculous for a couple of reasons. Johnson is frequently over targeted and Stafford often just wings it in Johnson's direction and hopes he comes up with a catch using his dominant size. Plus Stafford was horrible in the game, missing Durham and Scheffler when they were open. He threw two pick sixes so there's not much more to say. To say Stafford had to force it to Johnson as Schwartz has all week is silly, he's been doing it for two years.

Durham was in a bad situation but it's virtually over for him now. The coach and fans have turned against him. I've been reading DWF comments this week about how the Lions screwed up and passed on guys like Plaxico, Braylon Edwards, and Stallworth, to play a loser bum like Durham. The common wisdom is that they Lions need "playmakers" another code word for black players that is subjective and biased.

The team is 4-10, it's not that suddenly guys aren't making plays. But that is oblivious to the DWF mindset. Durham is White, that means he's no good, he has not lit it up, so he sucks and some random black guy must replace him. Pretty typical NFL scenario. I think Robiske passes him on the depth chart next game and he is gone after the season is finished.

Durham will be playing on national TV Saturday night in Atlanta. The Lions have nothing to play for other than trying to get Calvin Johnson the single season receiving yardage record. The Falcons will concentrate on slowing down Johnson, which means that Durham might get open for a few nice plays. Same for Tony Scheffler. But that assumes Matt Stafford will do anything other than lock in on Johnson every single passing down.

This is a huge game for Durham's potential NFL career. Another dud like last week and he'll likely be thrown on the already mountainous dung heap of White receivers who weren't given a fair opportunity despite having very good measurables and proven productivity in college. But Durham's fate depends in great part on Stafford. Will his former college teammate and roommate and alleged "buddy" try to get him the ball, or will it be a three hour national orgy of Stafford, the media and DWF Nation worshipping Calvin Johnson?

Two catches for 32 yards (a long of 16)...whilst targeted 5 times. :eek:hwell: Compare that to "megatron's" 11 catches (225 yards) being targeted 16 times. I guess that was to be expected, but dadgum RB Joique Bell had 9 catches (73 yards) & was targeted 12 times! You're telling me a squatty 5'10 RB gets targeted almost twice as much as a 6'6 WR w/ great hands & speed?!
