What’s wrong with wrestling?

This has to be the most depressing sport to watch. By far. I
caught some of the US Open Championship on ESPN and it
was pathetic. Black males and females winning matches left
and right. I know the Europeans did well in the Olympics. But
the white Americans in this tournament were getting their butts
beat. The most nauseating moment was when an obnoxious
black- Wadal or Dawal or something- did a little dance after he
won. Is he the future of this sport?

It's one thing for blacks to excel at catching a football or
dunking a basketball. Those are worthless skills in the grand
scheme of things. But this is wrestling. One man trying to take
down another. Sorry to be so negative but it's just really
frustrating to see blacks dominating a white sport, especially a
tough, "manly" one like wrestling. Edited by: JD074

You must have been watching RPW. Trust me, I was as dismayed by the results as you, read my other posts on it.

However, the winners of MOST of the weight divisions were white. The obnoxious Mo Lawal you mention was actually twice beaten by Fullhart previously, and likely would have beaten again had he not scored an early takedown and then spent the rest of the match showing his famous black "elusiveness"-feets don't fail me now.

As I voiced on the earlier thread,I have my suspicions from the commentary on the RPW show and the RPW website that their was a certain amount of "handpicking" and forethought going into engineering just the result you saw.

My first thought was, are they televising every fight or only a 'select' few of the 'best' matches?

Are you watching what they want you to see?

RPW is great but the best wrestlers in the world are not competing. Not even the best in the country. These guys aren't getting paid much to wrestle so you're not going to get the best. I'm sure RPW did try to get some black wrestlers in there to spark some racial interests. The NCAA championships is a much better measure of who is dominating the sport. Typically about 10 out the 12 weight groups have a white champion. Oklahoma state university won the team championship this year and they are all white but one black wrestler - I believe. Historically, Iowa has been the most dominating team and they have been almost completely white throughout their history. The olympics is even a better guide to see who is dominating the sport. I'll have to look that one up, but I believe the champions are also mostly white. I believe Russia is the most dominate country in wrestling - a familar theme.

I think this RPW is probably trying to build the ratings by selecting certain "good" matches. I agree with Kaptain Poop that it is not a very good measure of the wrestling pulse in America or worldwide. I wouldn't get too upset by it.

Savage, I believe it was called the "US Open Championship"
and it was on ESPN2 the other night. I assume it was a
tournament for professional American wrestlers. It had some
of the fighters that I saw on RPW. And you're right, the
annoying guy was Lawal. I expect a celebration dance in the
NFL but not wrestling. Yech.

Shogun, they showed a recap of all the winners, and
unfortunately a lot of blacks won. One after the other.

Kaptain, I believe this year three blacks won in the NCAA
tournament and one Asian among the men. So definitely a
down year for white American wrestling.

And the Olympics:

Thing is, the best wrestlers will win
eventually. It is difficult to overrate a wrestler after a loss.
Too much celebration, glamor, etc(lust I guess) will
hurt the wrestler's toughness. Dan Gable, Cael Sanderson, and John
Smith never did any of that stuff. Bobby Douglas(a black man)
never mooned any fans or anything like that. I wonder why.
Even in football, the Patriots keep their celebrations toned down.

Out of how many wrestlers and how many black wrestlers, total? Do you have any figures?

The reason I'm asking is to get an understanding of the magnitude of these wins. 4 out of 10? 4 of 20? 4 of 100?

JD, is it unusual to have three blacks win out of 10 matches? Do whites usually sweep?

I know my questions sound argumentative but trust me, they aren't. I don't know enough about wrestling to know the significance of these wins or this particular tournament.

But I guess if you're upset about it, I should be, too!
