after a woeful first day we Aussies have at least one thing to cheer about.
Sally just ran a 11.14 legal to win heat 3.
Melinda Gainsford's Australian record is 11.12A from 1994 so it could go
if Sally has anything left.

Josh Ross is suffering depression and was only a shadow of himself from
6 months ago. Our woman steeplechaser (picked as a potential medallist)
lost her shoe when spiked 100 metres into the race and after 2 laps
running barefoot the near 100F track temperature she could not go on.

Do you think that McLellan should race the 100 full time instead of the hurdles? She has very good potential.

Naimova was fun to watch in that race as well. She is only 20 years of age and boy can she run. It's nice to watch two blondes heating up the track. Hopefully they will both make the finals along with Lalova,& Gaveart.

I saw the Bulgarian gal and Aussie gal through NBC's coverage yesterday, and they looked amazing. Great fluidity, with a display of power as well.

The Whites are simply "tokens" in NBC's anti-White coverage. Boy, were they taken aback when the Polish hurdler won his heat! That wasn't supposed to happen, aaaarrrggh...

I have great respect for White female athletes -- and I believe they are less likely to choke in these track events. Am I the only one that believes this?Edited by: Deadlift

white females always seem to fair better then white male in track. why I have no idea. ironically, this years 100m final was probably the worst ever in terms of white women making the final, but was the best (in the past 18 years) for males. go figure.

that female 100 was a great race. Kim Gaevert is right up there with her
11.05.

11.01, 11.01, 11.02, 11.05, 11.05 , 11.08.... 6 girls within 70 cms (a bit
over 2 feet)

Sally would still like to try both for a while yet.
At 20 she has PB's of 11.14 (100) and 12.71 (100H) so if she gets
stronger and more experienced she should fare well.
She is a very competitive person and doesn't doubt herself, good traits to
have.

Sally is not the only one.
Australia has more fast women on the way.

Carly Rodger, just beat Sally's Australian hurdles record for under 16 yr olds:

Meanwhile, another Australian 15 year old, Lauren Sullivan, ran Australia's 2nd fastest 200m of the year (by .01 seconds)! According to this article, she has a good shot at the Olympics next year.

Sullivan looks like the real deal. I would love to see her become the worlds fastest woman. She is on the right track. Good luck to both of them.

Now if only Shirvo, Batman and Miller can get it going heading into 2008!

yes, I read the "Carly " story but missed the "Lauren" saga.... gee that's
quick for a skinny little 15 year old.
How does that compare to top US 15 year olds I wonder?

I remember 16 year old Raelene Boyle pushed Wyomia Tyus along in
Mexico city. She's our best ever at 16 so far (at 11.23A)

Sally ran a 12.72 yesterday in Australia, just .01 off her PB. She is only 21 and looks like she could be a medal contender in Beijing.
She also won the 100m in 11.41....very good.

You know jacknyc, once Sally eventually got that 30 year old Australian
record last year she started doing those times and better constantly.
She's probably broken it 6 or 8 times now.

She was really disillusioned after a "poor" 100. She felt "like crap" and ran
badly.
So a season opener of 11.41 is poor by her high standards! This girl has
great expectations of herself and knows what she can do just like Jana
Pitman.
It's going to be a great summer here but it'd so hard for Aussies, Kiwis,
South Africans to peak twice in a year for a northern hemisphere meet.

Sorry guys, you'll have to copy/paste again (my hyperlimk doesn't seem
to work), but here's a story ofor this coming weekend.

Sally's coach has set her a task of lowering her PB in the 200 from 23.35
to 22.70 (if conditions are good I guess). Wow! The coach must have
some faith in her present state of fitness.

well, nothing much at our interstate meet in the sprints today....

Daniel Batman won the 200 in a still wind 20.92

Sally McLellan pulled out of the 200 with a lower back niggle

Josh Ross pulled out of the 100 but

Young Aaron Rouge-Serret won in an equal PB of 10.36... a nice 20th
birthday present for the young man who looks set to get into the 10.20's
as he peaks in the next 6 weeks.. ...he's only a little guy, 170cms and
74kg , 1" shorter than Daniel Batman

we Aussies had some encouragement at Luzern overnight.

Sall McLellan beat all comers in the 100hurdles recording 12.58, a new
area and Aust. record and 13/100 below her old PB.

Our male 400 runner Joel Milburn, also 21, broke 45 for the first time.
Sure, only just with 44.99 but that's a real confidence booster. Apparently
he was running faster than both Wariner and Merritt in the final 50m of
his last race and realised he'd gone out too slowly and had too much left,
so he put in a quicker first 200 today.

It's good to see a couple of 21 year olds running with form this close to
the Olympics

First off, congrats to both of them. I have followed Sally for the last couple of years and both in the hurdles and in the 100 meter dash, she is world class. She for some reason reminds me a little of Laura Turner of England who is also very talented. I think that McLellan can contine to get better. She just has the aura about her. I love watching her run.

I have only seen Milburn run once and he is a talent for sure. I'm glad someone from down under is stepping up for the men. With J.Ross,P.Johnson and Shirvo all not even going to the olympics. This kid can be very good. Probably similar to a Tim Benjamin/Johan Wissman type. Let's keep an eye on him. Thanks as always mstermulti. Keep us up to date.

Multi do you know why no Australian is going to race in the 100 meters? Did anybody even achieve the B standard this year in Australia?

If anyone did, I would bet it was Adam Miller but he hasn't been seen or heard of much in the last 4 months.

we've had 3 people run 10.29 (Miller, Ross, Johnson) this year and 3
others in the 10.30s (Rouge-Serret, Shirvington, Burgess) but none have
quite made the cut.
In fact since January, John Woods 10.23 is the best run on our listings.

They all needed to be a tenth quicker alas!

Sally did a PB 100H in Monaco last night... 12.53.
Last year she ran 12.73 for the hurdles and 11.14 for the 100, so I'd love
to see her train for 100 again now she's stronger and faster.
I'd think she'd have Melinda Gainsford's 11.12 record given right
conditions.

BTW, our mens relay team was invited to Beijing on the strength of it's
number 16 ranking but Athletics Australia decided not to send them.

I would love to see her win a medal in Beijing.

McLellan's medal stocks rise after another record runJessica Halloran | July 31, 2008

HURDLER Sally McLellan has shown she could be a medal contender in Beijing after producing a record-breaking run at the IAAF World Tour in Monaco.

McLellan broke her Australian record for the second time in two weeks with the fifth-fastest time in the world this year when she finished second in the 100 metres hurdles on Tuesday. The 21-year-old finished behind Commonwealth Games champion, Jamaica's Brigitte Foster-Hylton, who clocked 12.49 seconds, the third-fastest time this year.

Her performance in Monaco eclipsed the 12.58 she ran in Lucerne, Switzerland, two weeks ago and backs up her second placing (12.61) to world No.1 Lolo Jones in London on Saturday.

McLellan said she felt comfortable among the world's elite 100m hurdlers. "I don't see them as really high-profile athletes, I just see them as athletes like me," McLellan said yesterday. "It's good to know I can keep up with them. It's nice to see where I am at."

McLellan, who will make her Olympic debut in Beijing, said the fast time made it clear her Games campaign was on track. "Everything is really been going really well. Everything is starting to click, and this is obviously what happens," she said

Congrats to Sally on winning a silver medal in the 100 hurdles. She is an olympic champion and no one can ever take that away from her. She continues to impress. A true superstar.

If only Kallur would have been in the finals. They would have went 1-2.

Congratulations to Sally McLellan for her Olympic silver. She's a great athlete. Hopefully, she will win the gold in 2012.

And, as always, i wonder why the USA does not have white women who can run like Australian and Russian women.

The answer to your last question can be explained by saying that the caste system in this country is entrenched more than any nation in the world. Even France doesn't come close to stereotyping athletes to the extent we do.

And btw: Tom Luginbill of ESPN is the king of all the anti-white athlete hate mongers in an already disappointing media. I believe we have to start naming our enemies by name.
