Rob Calloway (66-8, with an amazing 52 KO's) is a fighter with a lot of heart and a love for his sport. In an era when a lot of boxers fight twice a year, he's been fighting every month or two. He's entertaining to watch, always trying to KO rather than decision his opponents, and never backing up.

Tonight on ESPN he won an upset victory over African-American Terry Smith. The oddsmakers had given Smith a four-to-one probability of defeating the Irish-American boxer, but Calloway was dominant for most of the fight, and scored an impressive knockdown in the eighth round en route to a unanimous decision.Edited by: JD1986

It's been a good week for our people. Both Tye Fields and Rob Calloway beat black boxers on national TV. So much for the black athletic supremacy we always hear about.

Jason Litzau will be on ESPN next week.

I watched that fight and was vey impressed with Calloway.
In fact I am wondering if he might be a little to smooth and skilled for his own good. since 1997 he has lost five fights. But three of the losses wre to guys that were ranked heavyweight contenders and outweighted him 33 pounds(Chagaev) and is now a heavyweight Champin,50 pounds(Rahman) and is a former heavyweight champion and 60 pounds(McCline) by a guy that has been given 3 chances at the heavyweight title and is fighting Vitali Klitscho in the near futurerespectively. His only Cruiser weight ( last night he fought at 206 ) loses were to Tue Born Thomesen ( Super Cruiser Weight title ) in 2001 by about 2 points and to Keeny Keen who was then cruiser weight champion in 1999 again by two points. Is there the possiblity that the black boxing establisjment in the good old USA fears to but a top rated cruiser against Callow who appeared to have excellent boxing skills . THis is a hoot Callow( who weighs around 200 pound ) has just replaced Evander 'over the hill Holeyfield" in the heavyweight rating. It almost looks like the people running boxing are scared to death of this guy as a cruiser weight.
