NFL 2010-By The Numbers

From all the NFL breakdowns that several CF users completed, and some more research on my part, I compiled a fairly accurate (as of today) estimation of the percentages of White players and starters in the NFL by team and overall. Of course, the makeup of NFL teams can change from day to day, but taking into account most of the recent changes, I believe these numbers are pretty close.

Player Numbers: Number of White players as a percentage of all NFL players.

32 Teams x 53 Players = 1696 Total Players

511 White Players /1696 Total Players = .3013

30.1% of current NFL players are White.

Starter Numbers: When calculating this percentage, I went with the highest number of White starters possible for those teams where the number of Whites starters was situational (Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, Houston Texans). That makes the percentage of White starters shown here the absolute maximum possible right now. Thus, the percentage would be slightly lower if one or two of these teams go with the lower number of White starters. Doesn't count P, K, or LS as starters.

32 Teams x 22 Starters = 704 Total Starters

178 White Starters /704 Total Starters = .2528

25.3% of current NFL starters are White.
These numbers show that current NFL trends all work to the benefit of non-white players. Whites are discriminated against beginning in high school. The process accelerates in college, and is all but completed through the NFL Combine/Draft. Even so, many Whites are still being discriminated against when it comes to playing time. They are the mainstay of special team units, with punters, kickers, and long snappers being almost exclusively White. These of course aren't full time positions and aren't reflected in the starter numbers. Of the full time White players, many are still relegated to being backups to often inferior minority players. The Caste System is well developed, and its effects continue to take their toll on the number of White NFL players and starters. If current trends continue, the NFL will get even darker and the level of play which is already bad will become even worse. No, the best players aren't playing. Many of the best players aren't even in the league.

Great work, man!

The Packers are getting dangerously close to 50%. Mike Sherman's Packers routinely featured 11-12 whites. Most of those players consisted of starting and backup OL, QBs, kicker, punter, long snapper, and Aaron Kampman on defense.

Thanks for the numbers. I might crush the numbers for the 2005 season and see how much more racist the NFL is now compared to 5 years ago.
